The Titan Tower. An impregnable fortress most villains fear. A safe haven for heroes of all kind. A place of where friendships and waffles are created. And it was really the latter part that the boy currently appearing through the living room door was interested in. Closing the door behind him, he simply walked towards the Titan fridge -a massive, unruly thing filled with goodness- and started helping himself to some milk. Then the twelve year old boy devoured an entire waffle on the spot.. After filling up a plate full of cookies, he paused to think. Then he pulled his watch to his mouth. The boy's lips, suddenly illuminated blue, asked, "Orange, I'm in the kitchen if you want something." Then he started walking towards the main table, munching on his cookies and sipping from his glass of milk.
Creak. The door was opening again. The boy looked at the entrance. Then, as if seeing a ghost, he disappeared under the table with a scared look on his face. Thankfully, the table cloth was long and he was small. The watch returned to his mouth. "Blue reporting. Someone is in our kitchen!" He whispered. "Awaiting your instructions, Orange!" He sounded a little panicky. To keep his heart from racing, Blue stuffed his mouth with some extra chocolate chip cookies. His ears were trying to pick up who entered the room, and where they were. Were they safe nowhere? Why were there other people in their new kitchen? What had gone wrong with the family house?
This was pretty exciting. Kaie was finally getting to stay over at the Titans Tower. Ma was out of town for work, and Kaie had managed to talk her into letting the giantess stay at the tower. She'd had to bring her own mattress and blanket from home, nothing at the tower was made for her size or weight. She'd set up in one of the roomier storerooms, camping out on the floor. It was kind of awesome, but between the excitement and the floor-sleeping she was having trouble getting some sleep.
Kaie made her way to the kitchen. Maybe a midnight snack would settle her stomach. A leftover pizza or something. She wondered if they'd stockpiled on food when they let her stay. She was a growing giant, after all, and she had a serious appetite. But the Titans knew that, they'd seen her eat the first night they met.
She was distracted when she heard what sounded like small footsteps in the kitchen. Kaie crawled through the door, rising to her full height once she was inside. One of the nice features of the Tower, high ceilings in most of the common areas. She looked around, but there was nobody in sight. "Hello? Anyone there?" She stepped a little further in, treading as lightly as possible to keep from waking the other Titans.
She was sitting on a windowsill overlooking the baltic sea when her watch suddenly illuminated on her wrist. The little girl pulled the device to her head, listening as her brother's voice came through the small speakers. He was in the kitchen. "Orange juice!" the girl responded instantly, her lips illuminating orange in much the same fashion as her brother's had illuminated blue. "And if you eat all the cookies again, I'm going to kick your butt!" she added with a toss of her curls. The girl hopped down from her perch in the window of the bedroom the house had decided on tonight and made her way across to the hallway.
The girl wasn't moving at a terribly fast pace until her brother's voice came through her watch again, thin and frantic, and she sprinted through the house to get to the kitchen. "I'm on my way, Blue!" she whispered into the watch. Of course, the problem with there being people in the kitchen was that the house wouldn't let her go into it. The girl struggled with the door, "Blue, I can't get in," she tried to keep the panic out of her voice knowing it would just make it worse for her brother. He wasn't as brave as she was, she knew, and content to let her lead all the time. "Make a portal. Now."
Had she been a great scholar, or perhaps a child of more sense, she would have had Blue come through the portal to her. Instead, she made a portal, the edges rippling with a bright orange glow, and barreled through it.
Left alone, Blue didn't know what to do. "Orange?" He voiced again through the blue portal on his watch. He could hear air rushing on the other side. She's running towards me. That put the young boy's mind at ease. His sister always knew what to do. Thinks were a lot less scary with her around. But then a voice spoke outside, asking if someone was there. " N...nooo." Blue whispered. "No-one is theeeere." He crawled a bit deeper into his hiding spot under the table, hugging the center of it. The portal on his watch opened again and Orange's voice came through. "How?" Oh. Someone outside the family was in the room. That meant the door was locked to them, the members of the family. Blue shivered at the thought of him being unable to escape the room, trapped forever in a kitchen full of strangers.
Small tears trickled down the boy's cheeks as he hugged the table even harder. Tap. Tap Blue's head slowly turned in the direction of the muffled footsteps sounds. His eyes widened as he tried to see. Unfortunately, giant feet were not the most reassuring of sights. The boy was about to yell for help again, when his watch once more flashed blue. Orange's clear voice commanded, Make a portal. That meant a body-sized portal. Instinctively, Blue clapped his hands against the floor. A giant circle of blue flashed, then stabilized and rippled. Within moments, his crashed through the portal into the table. Her momentum was such that the piece of furniture fell over. Glasses, cutlery and residual sliced of pizza slid to the ground. Suddenly completely exposed, Blue took one quick look at the third inhabitant in the room -a scary giantess- before rushing to Orange's side and hugging her for support. "Orange. There is a BIG person in our kitchen." That wasn't supposed to happen. The house always chose rooms to protect the family.
Yep, that was definitely whispering. Either someone was sneaking around or the superhero life was getting to her. She considered the possibilities. Whoever it was hadn't come out when she'd called, which probably meant an intruder. Either that or a Titan on a diet, but she hadn't heard of any of them watching their weight. The active superhero lifestyle generally took care of that, even with the obscene amount of pizza they ate. "I can hear ya, ye know." She moved slowly through the kitchen, keeping a close eye out.
She jumped in surprise when the table flipped, shaking the kitchen as she landed. Yep, definitely not all in her head now. Turning to see what had caused the disturbance, she was taken aback to see two little kids. How had they gotten past Tower security? The giantess got down to her knees, trying to get closer to their level. Seeing someone of her size could be intimidating enough for adults, and she didn't want to scare a couple kids. "Easy now, is aright. I'm Kaie, whas yer names?" She gave them a smile, unintentionally showing some fang.
Well, at least the cartoon mammoth pajamas softened her image a little.
Orange burst through the portal like an explosion. Her momentum caused the thing to fall over with a thundering crash that was only accentuated by the rumble caused by the giant's landing after being startled. The little girl could tell her brother had been crying, but there wasn't time for that yet. She had a giant to face.
Clumsy as only a child can be, the little girl reached behind her and pulled a plastic toy sword out of her belt. It caught at first, but she was soon holding it pointed straight at Kaie with every ouch of bravery she had in the trembling tip. It was a fake pirate sword, and the little girl pressed a bright red button on the side causing it to light up and make a fake clanging of steel on steel. It wasn't terribly threatening, especially since the kid's eyes were as big as saucers when she really took in Kaie's gigantic mass, and, y'know, because it was a plastic sword.
"BACK!" the little girl screamed at poor Kaie. "You're not gunna make bread from our bones or shoot us with your laser eyes tonight! I'm a pirate 'n I'll send you down to Davy Jones' Locker!"
Today she was a pirate. Yesterday she'd been a secret agent. Tomorrow she'd probably be a wizard. But that was besides the point. Blue clinging to her side made it so she wasn't very mobile, but his physical nearness also bolstered her confidence. She watched as she giantess slowly crouched down so that she was closer to their level. The little girl kept her plastic sword pointed towards Kaie's face. She was shaking by the time Kaie flashed them a terrifying smile, but she didn't break ranks and run away. In the movies the hero always won, and the little girl fancied herself the hero.
"I'm Captain Orange!" the little girl introduced herself. "And this is my first mate, Blue!" she gestured with her head towards the boy besides her, her curls bouncing with the movement. Since the giant hadn't shot them with any laser eyes, Orange was growing bolder, and more curious. She shrugged off her brother enough to take a cautious step forwards. "Are you a real live giant?" she asked her fear obviously diminishing with each question. "Do you ride mammoths into battle? Or shoot lasers from your eyes? Or really eat people's bones in your bread? I always thought that would make the bread taste crunchy."
Blue had stumbled and fallen on his backside as his sister cannon-balled through their portal. "Aua." Rubbing his back, Blue took in the new situation. On the one hand, Orange was there. That instantly invigorated the boy with a shared sense of bravery. On the other hand, the lack of table exposed the boy to the giantess in mammoth pyjama. His jaw dropped. Blue's limbs froze and his eyes rivaled his sister's in size. The drawn sword -Blue recognized it as one from the toy room in Budapest- seemed to thaw his legs. The little boy quickly crawled behind Orange. He stayed silent, observing and letting the girl do all the talking and flexing of muscles and brandishing of swords. Blue just shivered as the giantess' head came almost to their level.
Orange was always the brave one. She explored rooms Blue didn't dare enter at first. She always grabbed stuff from them, ignoring the consequences. Blue tugged at her dress. "You should bring the sword back." Mom had always said to return things to the correct room at the correct time. It was probably early evening in Budapest. Blue was good at distracting himself with rules and observation. "And can I be the parrot instead?" That sounded like a lot less responsibility. "Giants don't eat birds, right?" He whispered in the direction of the giantess.
The Captain questioned the intruder to their kitchen, still holding the giantess at a very short arm's length. Blue pulled at her dress again. "Orange. Orange." He was starting to feel hopeful. The big person had asked for their names. You didn't ask the name of your food. "I think... I think she only eats mammoths." Which meant the giantess called Kaie wasn't into eating human kids. And Orange and Blue clearly weren't mammoth babies. "Ask her what she's doing in our kitchen!"
Kaie stifled a laugh at the pirate's antics. The jokes about grinding bones got old coming from kids her age, especially the connotations that took on once she was in high school, but from the little kids it was downright adorable. The only thing keeping her from roaring laughter was that she was pretty sure that would send the children into catatonic terror. Giants that laughed when threatened were more frightening than endearing.
The boy was a little more timid, but no less adorable. "I'm fine with ya bein a parrot if she is." Kaie gave a thumbs up. The two of them were starting to get over their fears, and the flood of questions was starting. The boy started, and the girl barely gave her a second to respond before launching into her own interrogation. "Well, I eat what regular people eat, jus' more of it." From a certain point of view. She was pretty sure that regular people didn't consume nearly as much bacon as a percentage of their diet. Well, maybe in Canada. Canada was weird like that.
Their questions seemed really focused on the cartoon mammoth pattern on her pajamas. She wasn't sure why, but then again kids usually focused on weird details like that. "Yes, I'm a real giant. And no, I don' eat mammoths, or ride em. I'm pretty sure there's no mammoths anymore. I think." She'd heard about the Titans meeting a caveman once, so maybe mammoths were a thing too. "I don' have laser eyes, an' I don' eat any part of people. I'm a Teen Titan, we're the good guys." She was about to wrap it up when she realized what the First Mate Blue had said. "Wait, yer kitchen? This is Titans Tower, where did ye think ye were?"
Orange rolled her eyes in an exasperated fashion when her brother reprimanded her about the stolen sword. "Yeah, I will, it's not like anybody will notice it's missing!" she countered. She had never listened to their mother when she was alive, and she still didn't now. But with enough pestering she would usually relent and return the items she had "borrowed" back to their original rooms. If she could.
"Are there blue parrots?" the little girl asked. "I thought that macaws were blue. But you can be a bird if you really want," she thought it was silly, because being a pirate was cooler then being a bird. "Do you have any crackers?" she asked Kaie.
She was distracted by the entertaining idea of pelting her brother with crackers when the giant started to answer their questions. "There are mammoths!" Orange informed Kaie with a knowledgeable shake of her curls. "I saw a movie with one last week! It was a grumpy mammoth, and it saved a baby, but the squirrel was funny." then something clicked and the child's expression lit up like Kaie had just informed then she was secretly Santa. "You're a SUPERHERO!?" the child asked, but she didn't really need to. The little girl took in her surroundings with fresh eyes, the expression on her face growing more and more excited with each passing second.
"BLUE!" she grabbed her brother, her arms moving to shake him in her excitement. "OUR KITCHEN IS IN A SUPERHERO BASE!" she probably didn't need to shout. He was right next to her, after all, but that didn't stop her. The girl raced over to the window, pressing her face against it excitedly. "WE HAVE THE COOLEST KITCHEN EVER!" The girl craned her head to the left and the right, her face leaving a mark at child height on the glass, but she didn't see anything terribly interesting. In a flurry of movement she made it back over to the giant. "Can we be superheroes too?" she asked enthusiastically. "I wanna be a magical girl!" she stowed away her sword, which she'd kept in her hand this whole time, before placing her now-empty hand over her heart. "I promise to give up my life of piracy and become a guardian against evil!" a pause. "Do I get a cool tiara?"
Blue wasn't very good at winning arguments. His voice faltered as he responded, "But, but... time-difference..." It was that magical word their parents always invoked to explain differences in rules between rooms. Blue being just a kid, he didn't know how to wield the powerful tool and the argument just fizzled into an awkward silence. We're not supposed to be speaking to strangers. Or even see them, for the matter. "There are parrots of every color." Blue finally retorted loudly. "I saw that on the tellie." At least, he thought he had kinda translated from a French documentary. "You know, the one in the green living room." The awful living room they only went to when it was day-time in all the other tellie rooms. "And crackers don't sound tasty." Blue whispered. He was rethinking his decision to be a parrot.
Still mulling over his identity, Blue remained silent throughout the mammoth debate. He hadn't watched enough television to form an opinion on the matter. So it was Orange's word against that of a grown-up stranger. Maybe I could be a pirate parrot? With an eyepatch and a taste for rum. Whatever that tasted like. Blue's train of thought was interrupted however when Orange's voice all but exploded in excitement. He flinched. "Superheroes?" Why would the house lead them into the Teen Titan tower? Blue suddenly felt his body shaking. Why? Oh. His sister was still letting go of her excess energy. Which meant shaking him like a palm tree. "Yes." A superhero kitchen meant superhero food, right? And it did seem bigger and cooler than their average kitchen.
Then Orange asked about being a superhero. Blue thought about that for a while. Did he want to be a superhero? How could he be a superhero? Didn't superheroes have like, special powers and such? "Orange." He whispered again, pulling at her clothes. "Orange." There was a problem. "Don't superheroes go outside sometimes?" Blue wasn't sure the tiara was worth the trouble. He didn't understand what was so special about a tiara. This was all so confusing. Turning to the giant Kaie, Blue whispered, "You aren't supposed to be here at night. Could you leave our kitchen and go to bed?" His voice carried a note of alarm and worry again. "Pleaaaaaase?" He then explained, "We promise it'll be your kitchen again during the day." They'd be gone and busy in a different room by then. Then, turning to Orange, Blue said, "Or maybe we should go now and come back when no one's there?" He then turned around to Kaie again, deciding to clarify things once for all. "When are you not in our kitchen? We have a flexible timetabe." Another mysterious keyword their parents used to drill in them.
Okay, she was not following any of this. The kids seemed to be having their own bizarro conversation, and whatever world it made sense in wasn't this one. Then again, kids were like that. "I don' know if we got crackers, normally I don' live here. Jus' stayin over tonight cuz Ma's out." By the time she finished saying that, they were back on the topic of mammoths. "Thas just a movie though..." Did they really think the Ice Age movies were true? Well, kids.
Before she could catch up to their train wreck of thought, they had latched on to the superhero idea. "Well, if ya wanna be a superhero, a good start is not breakin inta other folks' homes. Is no a very nice thing ta do." They kept on talking like it was their kitchen, for some reason. Even though they didn't know what building it was in. These kids just got more confusing by the second. "This is kind of a pirate thing yer doin now, sneakin into our Tower late at night. Why don' ya just use yer own kitchen?" She wasn't sure about the tiara. Kaie mostly watched shonen shows, they had better action. And sweet abs.
"Well, this our kitchen. Well, mostly the core Titans, but still, is no yours. Can't ye stay in yer own place?" Why did these kids keep acting like this was their place? They were totally breaking and entering. Well, not breaking, the teleporting or whatever made sure of that. But still, they were trespassing in the Titans Tower. That was not okay, even for kids. Someone had to explain that before they went down the wrong path. "Look, jus cuz ya got powers don' mean ya can do whatever ya want with em. Ye can't jus sneak into people's homes and take their food, is not right."
"But I want to go outside," Orange whispered back at her brother, shrugging off his tugging, her voice growing louder as all the prospects of thing that could be done outside came to mind. "I wanna have adventures! And find magical items! And meet talking animals! I don't wanna stay inside all the time. It's boring!" Blue was asking the giant to go away, but Orange really didn't want her to leave. Not yet.
The change in the child's demeanor was swift. She went from cheerful and excited about the prospect of being a superhero, to alarmed about her brother's reaction, and then angry when the giant told them they were being bad by sneaking into "other people's kitchens." The little girl drew herself up to her very non-impressive full height and moved herself between her brother and Kaie in an obviously protective motion.
"This is our kitchen!" the little girl said, her voice bordering on shrill. "The house took us here, that means it's our kitchen and not yours," she stomped her foot in a tantrum-esque manner. "You're the one who's not supposed to be here! So just GO AWAY! YOU BIG MEANIE-FACE!"
Blue just fell silent as his sister listed all the things they could do outside. He was about to speak up when Kaie berated the wannabe superheroine for breaking into the tower. That made the boy shiver. Outsiders really didn't understand. He hid behind his taller sister again. "Mom was right." About talking to strangers. About the outside world. "Orange. Can we just go now?" He could feel the tension rising. "It's bad when we talk to people." There was never a doubt in Blue's mind that the problem was Kaie. Little eyes peeked above Orange's shoulders. He could see her body tensing. "She's going to explode." An almost silent whisper.
And Orange did. Tantrum time came. The young girl insulted the stranger in her face. Blue had seen that before, when she couldn't take something because their parents couldn't afford to replace it. It'll be missed. That's what dad had said. "Orange?" He pulled at her dress again. "Portal?" She usually called the shots. Would they make a portal under Kaie, maybe using the zero-gravity well to slow her down? Or was the plan to just jump into the safety of another room? Maybe Orange had another plan in mind. Whatever orders came, Blue was ready to execute, despite being scared by the big meanie-face.
His mind visualized the last portal locations. His blue one was still located next to the tumbled over table, closed. His sister's connected it to some other room in the house. Maybe the library. No, it was day there, and there had to be people. Probably a bedroom then.People rarely visited their bedrooms during the day. Or Dad's room. Blue was pretty sure it was night there, and it wasn't a bedroom. Maybe they could wait it out there and return later for some cookies.
"Why can ye no go outside?" Kaie just didn't get these kids. Nothing they said made sense. And not in the usual little kid sense, either. It was like they'd been raised somewhere that made no sense. Maybe Bizarro World, though they didn't talk like that. Wait, was Bizarro from Bizarro World or was he a clone? She wasn't sure which rumors were true.
But all that was beside the point. Orange was freaking out. "Jus' cause ya can get into somewhere don' mean is yours! This kitchen is in the Titans Tower, it belongs to the Titans!" She wasn't sure why they weren't getting this. Kaie was a terrible judge of age, but these two seemed to be past the Terrible Twos. They should have outgrown the MINE phase by now. "I don' usually live here, but I'm still a Titan an' they allowed me in." That was the best comeback she could come up with.
Blue seemed to be suggesting they leave, which was fine by Kaie. She was probably going to have a HFIL of a time getting back to sleep after this. She'd just wanted a snack, and she'd argued with kindergarten burglars. All in all, it was a stressful experience. She just wanted them gone so she could grab a bite and get back to sleep.
Max wasn't having a very good sleep. Indeed he was having a nightmare and a rather brutal one at that. His dream started out well enough. Max was fighting a known criminal and just as he was about to win, an Euremian spaceship appears and abducts him. His captors then take him to Blackfire who does unspeakable horrible things to him for running away. Just as things were getting really painful, Max awoke with a start. Heart pounding he sat straight up and for a few moments he just stared across his room before hugging himself. "Get a grip Mimic. Even if the Euremians know I'm here I'm safe in Titans Tower. It's like the Titans said I'm among friends, so why do I still not feel safe?" Max scolded himself.
It had only been a few days since his return; which unfortunately did not go as well as he had hoped. He assisted the peaceful Mosiacs against their vicious Euremian oppressors and all was going well until he got caught by Captain Vasquez who then brainwashed him into stealing Earth's water and the sicko would have succeeded too had it not been for Starfire. "She saved my life even after the crappy way I've treated her. Well no more. I don't care if she is an alien. I swear someday I will make it up to her," Mimic vowed and he meant every word of it too. Also since his rescue Max has felt very awkward around his fellow Titans even up to the point of avoiding them and locking himself up in the guest room they had so generously provided for him. After the Titans snapped him out of his hypnosis he was just going to return to his home on the streets, but the Titans especially Starfire would hear nothing of that and insisted he stay a few days in the tower. He really didn't want to, but in the end they managed to talk him into it promising that he'd be much safer with them. "But what about you guys? I do not wish to stay if it means putting you at risk. I am hardly worth saving," he recalled in telling them. He just felt too fearful and awkward to face them just yet. And not to mention embarrassed. He felt incredibly weak for having allowed himself to be so easily subdued and by a scummy Euremian no doubt.
As he sat there on his bed his heart slowed back to normal and just as he was about to at least try to get some sleep his stomach growled. "Aw man I'm starving!" Max groaned. Too hungry to fall asleep Max hopped off his bed and quietly made his way to his door. Carefully he opened it and took a good look around before sneaking out. Not wanting to disturb the others he tip toed down the hall and headed for the kitchen, but he wasn't alone.
To his shock there stood a giantess and two children not much younger than himself. His pure white, pupiless eyes widened for he had not been expecting this. Initially he thought all three were trespassing since he had not been informed about Kaie and he never met her before. Thinking them or rather Kaie a threat he dropped down to his fighting stance. "Okay giant you got some explaining to do. Just who are you three and what are you doing here? Make it quick because in about five minutes I'm calling Robin and believe me you don't want me to do that," Max warned the three. And as much as Max dreaded facing Robin he wasn't bluffing. Hopefully though the trespassers will take the hint and leave allowing him to get a snack. Specifically he wanted to raid his bug collection. He kept a jar of live bugs in the pantry. 'Those kids better not have touched my bugs,' he thought oblivious to the fact that few would eat his precious bugs.
ooc: I hope this was good you guys as I was kinda tired when I wrote it, but I wanted to surprise everyone with it, so here it is. I have a feeling Kaie and Mimic's opposite personalities are going to clash here.

The roleplay takes place after the series end of the original Teen Titans animated show, but does not include the movie Trouble in Tokyo. Since then Robin has been on something of a recruiting spree, and many new young heroes have found themselves a home in Jump City as well as Titan Tower.
