Ah, so it was a secret date, then. Raven would've kept it so on her end either way, but it was oddly relieving to know that Red X planned (Or so he said) to keep it so on his end as well. Raven listened attentively to his answer and only showed her interest by cocking her head ever so slightly to the left, a subconscious move.
He had a usual. That meant he was a usual and that she and this thief frequented the same place. That fact made her a little uneasy. Was he stalking her? Is that what he meant by saying that? Doubtful. She, of course, had never noticed Red X in this restaurant before now, which meant that if he had ever attended the place at the same time as her, she'd seen him as his civilian self.
She'd never before now wished for a photographic memory, but it was no use. She could have spoken to him directly -- She might even know what colour is eyes were -- and it would be no use to her at all if she couldn't place him as Red X.
Frustrating didn't cover it.
"What I want," she said slowly, meeting his eyes, though hers hadn't strayed yet. "Is to know what you want. Why did you steal my Communicator, Red? Why did you ask me here?"
His eyes narrowed slightly, his mask echoing the movement as he considered her words carefully. For a moment, Red loved the fact he could read how hard Raven was thinking about the few words he had said. The look on a Titan's face when you make them realize they missed something crucial was priceless. It always was. But this time even more so. He held out his hand to her as if waiting for her to hand him the communicator.
"If I had just asked you to come here, you'd have said no. This way I get what I want, a few moments of your time." His voice was calm, but also held the slightest hint of a taunt, as if reminding her that her comm was still offline from the Titans. If Raven could see his face right now, she'd see a grin plastered on his face with a slight mocking touch to it. He still waited patiently, as if knowing sooner or later she'd actually have to surrender her comm if she wanted him to turn it back online.
"Ever think...maybe I just want to get to know you better?" Of course that was a possibility all the time, this time it was and it wasn't. In the end, his goals were much bigger than anyone would think that a little old thief could manage.
Raven kept her eyes on the thief, even as she leaned back in the booth and crossed her arms over her chest, eyes narrowing a bit in thought. He wanted to get to know her better. That was his reason. He wanted a moment of her time.
Why was it so hard for Raven to believe that?
Reaching out, she set her Communicator in his open hand without question. She could always take it back to the Tower and ask Cyborg to work his technological magic, or she could get a completely new one. Even if Red turned hers back on, actually, she was likely not to use it again. Practicing what she preached, Raven was wary of power she didn't understand. Red X's tech skills qualified in a big way. But he wanted her to hand over the Communicator, that much was clear, so Raven relented for the moment.
"Why didn't you just talk to me out in that alley, then?" she asked, glancing now at his hands on the T-Comm and then back up to where his eyes would surely be in the mask. "You could have 'gotten to know me better' without tricking me into dinner. Don't you think that would've been easier?"
Even though she couldn't see it, Red was smiling behind the mask. Raven posed several good questions and was a fool enough to hand him the communicator. Closing his hand around the device, he brought it closer to him and sat it down before him. "Had I asked then, you'd never have come. This way was much easier and held a guarantee that you'd show up." Raven had asked and so he showed a single metaphorical card from his hand.
He turned the T-comm over so that the back side of it was up. Normally he wouldn't show anyone what he was about to do but the job had been done. He took the back panel of the comm off and carefully pulled a chip out of it. It was the very chip he had put into it and a very lovely multifunctional tool that he'd developed with the use of some data he'd taken right from under Cheshire along with a some of the data he'd skimmed from Batgirl's computer when he'd virused it. Pocketing the chip he replaced the back panel of the comm and flipped the device open.
The screen flashed to life and he closed it. His work was done here but right now he had a chance most villains didn't have. "Did you really think that I'd be dumb enough to try and talk to you at a time I knew you wouldn't listen? Meet someone in an alley and there's a zero percent chance of anyone taking what you say seriously." For a moment, he simply watched her. Learning the subtle differences in her tone and posture. For a moment, it was like reading a book in a foreign language but given enough time and he'd be able to read her.
Raven made a humming sound in thought, and fixed her eyes on the Communicator in his hands, eyes memorizing every move he made, even if she understood none of it. He took out a chip that she was assuming he'd put there to begin with and she frowned, wondering if its only purpose was to block her signal and hoping that it was. "You had no such guarantee, Red," she said, softly. A fact. Her eyes only then flickered back up to his. Her Communicator was back online, but she paid it little to no attention. It was useless to her now, the poor thing.
"How quick you are to judge," she mused, as if to herself, watching him. "How sure you are that you'd have had to meet me here to get me to listen to you. Are you so convinced that I'm that steadfastly against exchanging words with you?"
Surprise and amusement touched his features when he heard her words. Leaning back, he put his hands behind his head, the only visible part of him being his shadow and the white of the domino-like mask. "Heroes don't exactly listen to the people they chase. Usually, they see someone who did something wrong and chase them down regardless of if they're breaking the law. If what you're saying is true that you aren't so steadfastly against having a conversation with me then how about we talk...over dinner."
For a fraction of a second, he had a feeling that the teenage hero would leave but yet there was the one question that several of the Titans wanted answered and it was something you could only get straight from the X himself. There were a few questions he had for Raven, most of them out of curiosity but the rest were more business related. After all, he was well known for being self centered and reliant only on what would help him out. Questions with no answers and answers with no questions. It was only a matter of time before someone put the pieces together and saw the bigger picture. For now, that's what he wanted. To put the pieces of that puzzle together before the Titans. Maybe it was so that he'd stay a step or two ahead of them and cause some mayhem, or maybe it was because he had his own agenda for the "big picture".

The roleplay takes place after the series end of the original Teen Titans animated show, but does not include the movie Trouble in Tokyo. Since then Robin has been on something of a recruiting spree, and many new young heroes have found themselves a home in Jump City as well as Titan Tower.
