Starfire was just itching to get rid of excessive energy, though still being in such close proximity to an energy-source there may just be no getting rid of it tonight. Physical exhaustion would win out eventually, and there was an eventual threshold that she would meet where she'd stop taking anymore in--she had already reached that state. The effect was that her eyes wouldn't stop glowing, she was giving off more heat than usual, and her hair was fanning out behind her as she floated. She was eager for battle, and this new-comer would not be hurt by her energy blasts, she didn't think.
Starfire's power may altogether be ineffective, but she had more experience sparring. It would be an interesting fight if anything, regardless of the outcome or if it fulfilled Starfire's intended purpose. "Very heat resistent." She answered, but acknowledged she not invulnerable to it. If Sun was not burning her surroundings than it was not going to hurt her beyond some discomfort.
"I am ready." As soon as she said that, there was a blinding light, and out of reflex she threw up an arm to shield her eyes. However, she knew this tactic, and she spread her hands out before her. A large blast of concentrated solar energy shot from her hands toward where she remembered Sun being. The blast still hand enough force behind it to be concussive, and it certainly felt good releasing it.
Flash of light. Sun moved forward, trying to take advantage of the moment. A different flash of light. She felt something hit her plasma, displacing mass. It stalled her momentum. There was a small crater where the concussive force of Starfire's shot had hit Sun. The star rippled in reaction, restraining Fran's movements. Plasma rushed into the crater, scarring and healing the thing within moments.
Smirking, Sun said, "Good counter." She looked ahead towards her sparring partner. That glow in her yes... The star-girl's face wore a slight frown. And I still haven't closed in any distance between us two. Sun had no long-ranged attacks. Just the blinding trick. Time to crank up the heat. At this point, Sun was a solid blue. Her temperature was high enough to melt most metals at touch... if she chose to affect them. Pure raw heat.
Her star was too heavy to surprise Starfire, but Fran still moved forward, trying to use her girth and weight to push the other girl around. The blazing star gained momentum again. "Here I come." Strong with her ton heavy star. The attack came from an angle. Sun's trajectory pointed down to the floor of the sparring area. Hopefully it would hold.

Starfire smiled back a the smirk, pleased with herself and giggled at the compliment. Then she watched the changes take place from her aerial position. Sun was becoming blue and the air around them was getting hot, heating even this large, previously cool gym. The Tamaranean was not sensitive to it, but she did notice. Plus, with the way the light was slightly bending from the rising air she knew that Sun had raised her temperature considerably and they hadn't even made contact yet.
Her movements were slow, but Starfire hadn't quite moved in time (a tactical error on her part). She was trying to test if her starbolts could still displace the plasma as they had before, barraging Sun with her bolts and even sending a large beam of that same energy her way. Starfire was more aggitated, frantic, and aggressive than normal, and wasn't quite thinking it through. She realized she should have flown sooner when the mass was upon her. "Eep!"
It was pushing her into the ring, her back pressed against the durable floor as Sun's weight bore down upon her. The squeak turned to a grunt as she pushed against her, putting a lot of strength into it. If she needed to breath, this would be problematic. A bead of sweat rolled down her temple and she pushed, pushed, pushed against Sun, until the Tamaranean was lifting the small star and up on her feet. "Careful you do not... melt our equipment...at this rate..." Starfire pointed out, and then threw her a small distance.
Starfire quickly flew to establish distance again. This time she would be more mindful not to let her heavy weight push her around.
Sun felt her star grind her sparring partner against the ground. A noisy grunt echoed through the room. Slowly, the star was being lifted from the ground, against Fran's will. Sun did not grunt or sweat: her body was always in its state of perfect stillness. But the concentrated frown on her face betrayed the exertion the mutant was putting her powers on. The glowing plasma tensed, the whole star turning more compact before Starfire finally threw Sun off herself.
"I'll try to keep that in mind." Sun answered. "Though I'm not really worried about melting them. You're the only one who feels the heat." and with that Fran moved forward again for a frontal assault with her weight. A slow mastodon charging across the ring. We can both fly. I need to trap her somewhere. Sun's lack of tactical training was showing. And the alien girl was a worthy opponent in strength alone. Fran did not expect to win.
Starfire may be on a constant energy spree, but she was physically tired. Her muscles would get terribly sore if she kept throwing off that weight, if she even could. So she used her greater speed to move out of the way. Mostly because it was excess energy, she took the chance to fire at her again. "You will not succeed with that tactic," informed Starfire after she had fired her second--or was it third?--barrage of starbolts.
The alien was experienced with flight and combat. "A better tactic would be to close the distance with less mass and more speed, and if it is possible for you, to gather your mass again and let gravity, not flight, give you the momentum to knock me down." This required timing and trajectory, but that was what sparring was for--practice. "Does this sound feasible?

Another wave of energy bolts exploded on the surface of Sun's heavy star, which formed anew reasonably fast. Sun's movement was restrained at every hit. Fran's own attacks were growing less and less effective, with Starfire simply using her superior mobility to avoid the slow mutant. Sun paused as she took in Starfire's tactical advice. "I understand. But that will decrease my defense." Which meant she would actually have to emulate Starfire's fighting style: less static, more positioning and dodging around. It also begs the question of how I burn the excess mass."Also, I cannot regain the mass very fast." That being said, the alien girl's advice was spot on. Taking risks was the essence of powered fights.
"Here I go again." And with that, Sun drastically expanded her sun again, diluting her plasma to engulf half the sparring area. Then, a series of light flashes happened in quick successions. The color of the star transitioned from red to a light shade of blue. "Mass turns into light and heat." Both of which didn't do much to the space-faring alien but it did increase Fran's mobility. Like a Caterpillar emerging from chrysalis, Sun broke from her large solar shell into a much smaller, more colorful starlet. "Just lost a few hundred pounds in under two minutes. Do I get a prize?" She moved a bit around, trying to compare her speed to the redheaded alien. Still slower. But at least she could now try to catch her.
Fran shot forward, but quickly branched off from the frontal attack. With her reduced weight, she did not want to get hit by one of Starfire's bolts head on. Then she tried to ram the girl from the right.

So, there was a trade off, and she could not regain the mass quickly. It made sense, but that meant her tactic was not as effective as she proposed it to be. Though, considering the heat and damage a large amount of sun mass could have, she supposed that if Sun was seriously trying to go at her, Starfire along with most people would be in trouble. Her resistance to temperature was immense but not infinite. For sparring, where they both kept within friendly limits, Fran would need to increase her mobility.
Watching her break away from her solar shell was beautiful. Starfire giggled and grinned at the prize comment. "I believe you to be deserving of one," she agreeed, but didn't let it distract her as the other flying girl shot toward her.
Starfire wanted to test how strong Sun was against her like this--if she could manage to hold her in mid air--since she was certain she could out-speed her. The attack still moved quickly by normal flying standards, so it wasn't a lot of time to figure things out on the spot. Starfire was bracing for a frontal attack, but then she was hit from the right.
There was no force to push back against it, so Starfire moved through the air. She hadn't been paying attention quite to their position, so it took her by surprise when she collided with another warm body and that was enough to disorient her and cause her to fall into the net below. Wait, net?
Oh--yes! Robin was in the gym with them. This was the trapeze. She was back against it, looking up toward the flying girl above, and then the gym, and then boy beside her. "You are not hurt, are you?" she asked, but where she would be overly apologetic and concerned, now she was awkward--like he made her uncomfortable despite the fact she was the one to have hit him. She flew up slightly, but remained close by just to see if he was okay.

Maybe Robin should have been paying better attention. He flipped over the trapeze bar and nearly fell as he watched one of Sun's dazzling light displays. Both Starfire and Sun were gorgeous to watch in action. They reminded him of a light show, and here he was with his own personal front row seat....er, bar. He couldn't pay too much attention to them, though, or he risked sullying his Grayson reputation with a rookie move. The Boy Wonder swung from his bar before launching forward to the next one, tucking his feet up to his chest.
One somersault. Two. Three. FOUR.
He landed smoothly reaching out and cleanly grasping the bar he had been swinging for. Robin let the momentum of the move propel him forward, and he flipped up onto the bar, holding his weight on his arms as he watched the continued fight between Starfire and Sun. This wasn't the sort of sparring where he could learn terribly much about their fighting. He already knew how Starfire fought. They had, after all, been working together for awhile. The Boy Wonder didn't know as much about Sun but what he did know was that she wasn't as useful cooped up indoors. Robin played everyone to their strengths.
The kid flipped around the bar and used that momentum to pull himself back into a swing. It felt good to be flying through the air with the greatest of ease. It felt so...natural. He often wished he could be like Superman, or Starfire, and could fly on his own without launching off of things and pretending gravity didn't matter.
They met midair. Starfire's body collided with Robin's and the pair plummeted down to earth in a tangle of surprised limbs. “Aaah!” Robin managed a startled yelp before they bounced on the netted surface. Starfire managed to get her limbs in order before Robin. She was flying above him by the time he managed to roll into an upright position and sit, looking dazed because he'd just been knocked into by a beautiful women, on the net that still rocked slightly with the force of their initial impact.
Her response to their sudden proximity was...weird. Robin couldn't quite put a finger on it, but it just didn't sit right with him. He shook his head slowly and stared up at her with a slightly dazed expression. “I'm fine, Starfire,” he assured her. For when did he give any other answer than 'fine'? “You didn't get hurt, did you?” it was pointless but he asked it anyway.
Sun's attack connected. The star's large momentum sent Starfire flying through the air... right at Robin. "Ooops." Fran's sun contracted and became more opaque. "I didn't mean to do that." She whispered defensively. Retreating inside her solar shell again, gaining mass, Fran did not speak anymore.
The two senior titans were more verbose, but just as awkward. Robin looked puzzled and almost stunned. Starfire was flying in a way Sun recognized only too well: the awkward drift of IdontknowwhereIshouldbeflyingWhatdidIdowrong? A quick glance at one of the gym mirrors allowed Fran to confirm that, yes, she too was doing that same awkward aerial dance.
But instead of correcting her stance and flying towards Robin and Starfire to help, Fran did something altogether familiar. She moved towards the exit, her luminosity at an all time low. Her star was small, opaque and shone very little. "My fault." Fran whispered as she approached the stairs.
Rather than looking assured, her eyes narrowed and she frowned at him. Physically, no, but he knew that. So, why did she look like she wanted to answer yes? "You seem like you are unhurt, but I can never know when you are lying to me."
It was like lately... every time... he found a way to disappoint her.
"The impact was my fault but, Robin...?
It was the excess energy talking. Or the exhaustion. The stress. She wouldn't say this otherwise.
"I do not wish contact with you. Please do not talk to me unless necessary. I need the space."
She turned away, flying after Fran; to get away from him, and to go comfort someone she would rather be in the company with.
"You should not be apologizing. I was not aware of my position. You were doing as I suggested, and you did well! You managed to knock me back even with your reduced mass."
Her accusation was like a punch to the gut. Robin flinched when she said that she could never quite tell when he was lying. It was true that he wasn't exactly honest with his teammates. He kept secrets. But...he never meant to hurt anyone. His masked gaze dropped to below her flight level until she said his name and he slowly lifted his face again. This turned out to be a mistake.
She didn't want anything to do with him.
That hurt more than her accusation that he was always lying. That hurt more than falling from a thousand trapezes. His masked eyes widened in shock and then narrowed in confusion before he simply managed a numb nod and watched her fly off to talk with Sun. He sat there on the net for a moment looking completely shell shocked before he flopped back and stared up at the ceiling. The Titan's leader didn't care if anyone came in and caught him slacking off like this. He wasn't using the trapeze net like a hammock for recreational purposes. He sincerely wasn't sure he could find the strength to come down.
What had he done to make Starfire not want anything to do with him? She'd been the last Titan to turn on him when he'd pulled the stupid Red X prank. She'd believed in him when Slade blackmailed into working as his apprentice. Whatever he'd done, Robin decided, he needed to fix it and fast. Because once Starfire stopped believing in him it was only a matter of time before everyone else did.
Ooc: Unless someone wants to come in and pester Robin (lemme know if you do) I'm considering myself out of this thread.^^ It was fun, guys.
Sun only partially registered the fight between Robin and Starfire. Lying? The titans seemed to be less of a cohesive group than the young mutant had anticipated. It did nothing to improve her sombre mood. This wasn't why I came back. Maybe Fran ought to do a little space-flight again.
But then Starfire flew towards her with words of encouragement. Sun smiled weakly as the redhead regained her usual alien verbal style. "Thanks." The heavy plasma dispersed somewhat, making it easier to see the girl. "You're a really good flier." Starfire's powers were impressive, and her control over them even more so. Sun sighed. "I still have much to learn." about powers, about the titans and maybe relationships between people in general.
"I guess you'll head back to bed now?" Fran didn't need to sleep, but she might go outside for some flying. Hopefully I won't wake up too many people on the way out. A miniature sun coming up four hours early could do that.

The roleplay takes place after the series end of the original Teen Titans animated show, but does not include the movie Trouble in Tokyo. Since then Robin has been on something of a recruiting spree, and many new young heroes have found themselves a home in Jump City as well as Titan Tower.
