Getting the Job Done [ElodieXGauntXOpen]

Once more Elodie was out on the streets, this time stealing some files from a security company that her client was paying her quite a bit for. Got to love angry ex-employees who know the company has been doing very illegal things, Elodie thought as she looked over the papers, knelt down behind a desk to advoid being seen by security guards. The security cameras had been easy to take offline, but the guards where still up and about. This was according to plan, for Elodie wanted it to look like nothing happened and that rats had simply been nibbling at the cords.

The former employee had been searching for a while for anyone willing to get these files, and was offering a large size of money to anyone who could get them those files. And now, after seeing the files, it was clear why they wanted those files and why they where paying so much to get them. With these files they could get major sums of money through blackmail or even take the entire company down if they take it to the police or the FBI.

She was dressed in her usual get up when being her stealthy, villainess self, wearing her black bodysuit with the flat black boots and her utility belt at her hips. She wore her hooded mask that hid her signature strawberry blonde hair and the black contacts, as well as a black bag that she quickly put the files in before planning her escape through the building. She moved quickly and quietly, determined to escape without being seen.

If she is seen...Well, that would be a pity for that unlucky fellow, woudn't it?

Elodie kept to the shadows, staying out of the way of the security guards with relative ease. She only had to backtrack and quickly hide a few times, tempted on simply shocking them into unconsciousness and walk out. But no, she needed to stick to her plan.

[Gaunt]

Security firms were a goldmine for someone like Gaunt. Rat's Nest did all sorts of work, but their first duty had always been as spies and information brokers. The sorts of things these firms would have could fetch them one hell of a price on the open market. It wasn't the kind of job that Gaunt could trust to an underling. He had some impressive metahumans under his command, but he was still the most powerful and experienced member of his franchise. This needed the master's touch.

Gaunt flickered out of sight as he approached the building, passing unseen by guards and security cameras. He strolled casually up to the door, waiting for the guards to look away. Gaunt reminded himself to work on his invisibility skills later, it was a nuisance having to wait like that. It would be much easier if he could mask what he was doing as well, but that would take some practice. Once the coast was clear, the vampire knelt down and took out a set of lockpicks. He was about to set to work when the door opened. He stood, stepping back as a girl in full sneaking gear slipped out. Another burglar had beaten him to the punch! Gaunt fell in behind her, trailing her until she was out of sight of the facility. If he had to, he could double back and steal more after dealing with her. He'd just have to see what she had first.

Once they were well into the alleys, Gaunt made his move. He wasn't planning on killing the kid. She seemed young, and killing teenagers had never sat well with him. He'd just take her stuff and leave. Hell, unless she had some brute powers (unlikely with her sneaking around) he wouldn't even need his full strength. The vampire swung a hand, trying to bat her into the wall as his invisibility broke. The power wasn't too subtle as it faded, letting off a puff of smoke and an odd wheezing sound.

Elodie tried to fight off a catish grin as she successfully escaped the security firm, mentally high fiving herself at her skill and ability of this job. Its been a while since she's gone sneaking around like this, having last done this back before her trip through Europe. And now, after all this time, Elodie knew that she still had the moves. Now to get to the contact point and get my money, She thought as she walked with care, keeping to the shadows and out of view.

She hadn't realized she had been followed. Not until, from the corner of her eyes, she saw a hand coming at her as well as seeing smoke and hearing an odd, wheezing sound. However, before she could react, the hand hit her and Elodie found herself hitting the wall, her body screaming in protest. Her eyes quickly scanned the area, zeroing in on the man who had done this to her.

He was a tall, lanky lookin-guy, pale as death and twice as creepy. Ugh, who invited ugly? Elodie thought as she glared at him, arcs of electricity shooting off of her protectively. "What the fuck?! What the hell do you think your doing!" Elodie hissed at him, working on getting back on her feet while moving the bag with the files behind her. No way in hell was he taking the files from her. She did the hard work so she was going to get the pay. Her temper was flaring and with that the arcs as she glared at the vampire before her.

[Gaunt]

The girl was tougher than he'd expected. A pure sneak would have been downed by that hit, but apparently she was used to having a bit more of a fight. She recovered quickly, turning to face him and getting ready to fight. For his part, Gaunt stood with his hands at his sides. He could see the pained reaction from that hit, she wasn't a heavy hitter like Starfire or Cyborg. There wasn't much she'd be able to do.

He started to reassess that when she shot lightning at him. If she was a Homo Magi, this was going to SUCK. The vampire's eyes widened, when he saw the arc, but it only took him a moment to realize it hadn't done much. She was just an electrokinetic, no magic involved, and that hadn't been enough to start any fires. Hell, he barely even felt it. Gaunt brushed himself off, taking another step forward. "I'm just here for what you took from there. Hand it over, and we can both go our merry way. Refuse, and you're gonna hit a few more walls." Gaunt cracked his knuckles, his elongated fingers distorting the sound. It was an effect he'd been working on, and he was rather proud of how it had turned out. "What'll it be?"

Yeah, be afraid. You messed with the wrong girl, buddy, Elodie thought as she scanned over him as his eyes widened. However, seeing as though that quickly dissappeared and he seemed back in the game, Elodie prepared herself for any attacks he might throw at her. Hopefully, none of them involved getting thrown into the wall, because that hurt. She tensed as he took a step forwards, her arcs of electricity becoming more eratic as he did so.

When he stated that he was here for the files and that she should just hand them over, Elodie narrowed her eyes at him. Like hell she was going to do that! Even at the risk of getting whacked into the wall wasn't going to get her to give up those files. "As if. First come, first served." Elodie stated, showing no fear when he cracked his knuckles even though it was rather intimidating. It sounded....wrong, though it may of been due to his messed up hands. "Or how about you go back to whatever you came from while I take the files I got to my client, kay?" Elodie sassed, watching his hands carefully.

Elodie was still for a few seconds before shooting electricity at his face, hoping to blind him for a moment. She then quickly started to run for it, because that guy was creepy as heck and he wanted her files. Besides, she rather not hit the wall again.

[Gaunt]

She was persistent, if nothing else. Mr. Gaunt kept walking, ignoring the electricity arcing across his skin. He could feel tingling in his nerves, but the magic animating his body was overpowering it. The dead nerves weren't any more than a nuisance to him. Gaunt rolled his eyes, letting out a sigh. "You heard what they say about doing the same thing and expecting different results?" He was just glad that she wasn't ratcheting up the power, that could get dangerous if she could do that.

As expected, she was still going to put up a fight. He didn't really expect her to hand it over that easily. If she'd stood up after the first hit, odds were she'd be willing to take another. "No deal, kid. I need those." He wasn't entirely sure if that was true, but it probably was. She wouldn't be stealing their Secret Santa list.

Gaunt drew back his hand for another sweep, going for another backhand. His perfect attack was interrupted with a lightning bolt in the eyes, momentarily blinding him. He swung a little harder than intended, smashing through the brick. He growled, taking a moment to regain his sight before charging after her. She was quick, he had to go in leaps to catch up with her. The vampire crashed down every thirty feet or so, leaping after her again with a snarl. "Don't make this worse!"

WTF? Elodie thought as the vampire continued to walk, as if there wasn't electricity currently arcing across his skin. Seriously, there was no reaction. No dropping to the ground, no twitching, not even a flicker of pain. Jut a bit of annoyance, from what she could tell. Well, this can't end well, Elodie thought, for she was somewhat dependent on her powers in times like these. Sure, she could fight if she needed to but she often backed her punches with electric shocks. And against a guy with apparent super strength who doesn't feel pain? Yeah, this was going to suck big time.

And probably hurt a bit.

"Ever heard of 'Get your own files, you creep'?" Elodie questioned, totally tempted on bringing up the power for this creepy guy. He wasn't natural, that was for sure, and while a majority of her brain and body wanted to get the heck out of there, a small part wanted something else. It wanted her to trap him, do some tests, take some blood samples, and see if whatever is going on with him could help Lissy and Trevor.

Luckily for her, her legs wanted to get the heck out of there and so she ran when she got the chance. There was a smashing sound behind her, and while she knew she shouldn't of looked back, Elodie couldn't help but look behind her. Apparently Mr. Creepy had super strength for real because he just smashed through the brick wall. If she had stayed there, she probably wouldn't of made it out in once piece.

"Shitshitshitshitshitshitshitshitshitshit," Elodie repeated to herself as she ran, because when your being chased by a guy who can break through brick and wants something that you have, you have the right to swear as much as you want. "By the look of those bricks, I say its a bit too late for 'worse', don't ya think?!" Elodie yelled behind her as she ran, throwing balls of electricity behind in in an effort to get him away from her. "I did not go through hell just to be killed off by a guy with super strength who thinks its freaking halloween!" She yelled, wondering what happened to all the charming villains while she was away.

She missed Red X. Now he knew how to treat a lady.

[Gaunt]

"They aren't your files either, kid. You took them from that company, and now I'm taking them from you." He explained it calmly, like he was talking to a little kid. That was a bad habit he'd been noticing lately, the sort of smugness that immortals developed. He'd have to do something about that before it got ridiculous. Maybe a sensitivity seminar.

Once the chase was under way, he was a lot less calm. Gaunt snarled as he followed her through the alleys, cracking the pavement with each takeoff. "Just give up before you get hurt!" he barked, putting a little extra oomph into his next leap. There was a crack as he landed in front of her, trying to block off her path. Gaunt stood, straightening out his back. "I'm not here to hurt you, just hand them over." The Halloween barb stung a bit, but he wasn't going to let that get to him. He had a job to do, and killing a kid wasn't part of that job.

"Alright, you know what? Let's make this simple." Gaunt reached behind his back, pulling out Vera. The hand cannon was probably bigger than any gun she'd ever seen, and definitely bigger than any handgun outside of a Hellboy movie. "Give me the documents." Gaunt leveled the massive pistol at her head. With his shoddy aim there was no guarantee he'd even hit, but she didn't know that.

"Well then go get your own stolen files or go inside and get your own! Theres plenty of files to go around!" Elodie continued to sass, oddly enough not reacting to him calling her a kid. Sure, some may of gotten angry and yelled at him about how they weren't a kid but an adult. However, she did dislike his tone, for it was far too calm and smug for her liking. It made her want to zap him, but seeing as how he seemed immune to her electricity she kept it down.

The fact that he was growling while he was chasing her wasn't helping the situation. However, it was motivation to make her run faster, her arms pumping to keep her away from him. "As if! You'll probably kill me as soon as I hand them over, which I wont be doing." Elodie shouted over her shoulder at Gaunt, which was a pretty big mistake seeing as how he leaped over her and got infront of her. With her momentum there was no way for Elodie to slow down or stop, and instead she crashed into him and found herself on the ground, on her ass. What the heck?! Its like running into a brick wall! Elodie thought as she quickly got back onto her feet, eyes narrowed at Gaunt as he stood up straight. "What the hell are you?" Elodie hissed, not liking this situation at all.

When Gaunt reached behind his back, Elodie was genre savvy enough to realize that it wasn't going to be something fun, which is why she pulled out something as well. While Gaunt pulled out the biggest freaking gun Elodie has seen, so far, Elodie had pulled out one of her inventions. It was her pocket-sized disintegrator ray, installed in a common flashlight case. Sure, it was a proto-type, but there was no way that she was telling him that!

"How about no?" Elodie responded, leveling the proto-type ray at his head. Two can play this, buddy boy. Elodie thought, glaring at him. "However, we can make a deal. You leave me and these files alone, and I won't blast you with my disintegrator ray, kay?" Elodie asked, her voice full of sickly sweet venom.  This is when backup would be really handy, Elodie thought, not liking the way this was going down. After all, it was a proto-type she was messing with and she rather not have it explode in her face or not work when she needed it to.

[Gaunt]

Okay, this was bad. She didn't believe him about the letting her go part. Not that he would blame her, vampires weren't known for being trustworthy, but he was telling the truth here. That alone wouldn't be a problem, but now she had a gun on him. His own lenience was biting him in the ass here. He could have shot her while she was drawing her ray gun, but killing kids wasn't something he liked to do.

Gaunt held still, weighing his options. He didn't know how effective that disintegrator was, or if it even was one at all, but he couldn't take any chances. This city was lousy with supertech, and there was a decent chance that a superpowered criminal would have one. He didn't feel like testing his luck when his head was on the line, it was one of the few parts he couldn't afford to lose. He'd have to rely on brains, not speed.

He sighed, holstering his gun and putting his hands up. "All right, no need for that. I would have let you live, by the way, but that's beside the point now. I'll be seeing you around." He shimmered and flickered before vanishing from sight. With luck, she'd think he had teleported. Gaunt stepped around beside her, treading lightly to keep from being heard. Once he was out of the line of fire, he made a grab for the disintegrator, trying to trap her hand and keep it pointed safely away from him.

Elodie smirked as he stayed still, as though weighing his options. She was unfortuantly aware of the tables now turning in her favor, and was mentally gloating on her small victory. She was now in control of the situation, which is exactly how she liked it.

Finally the creep sighed, putting his giant gun away and putting his hands up as though she was a cop. I am epic, getting a grown man with a vampire vibe going on to give up. Elodie thought as he spoke and started to shimmer before finally dissappearing. Sonofa...He teleports too! Elodie thought as she scowled at the spot the guy dissappeared.

Better get out of here before someone else shows up for these files, Elodie thought as she turned to walk away. However, she didn't get far as something grabbed the hand that held her disintegrator. And what do you know, it was creepy vampire dude. So no to teleportation, but yes to invisibility.

"Let go of me! Let go of me now!" Elodie hissed before letting loose, trying to free her hand from his. Her electric arcs where shooting rapidly from her to her surroundings in an effort to protect herself, while she used her other hand to punch his arm, as well as kicking and attempts at kneeing him. However, she doubt that it would be that successful, for her boots where made for flexibility and for sneaking around, not for combat.

Alright, now this was going better. She still had some fight in her, but the thief was no match for vampire strength. Gaunt lifted her off her feet, dangling her by one arm while she kicked and hit at him. It was annoying, but not really painful. He'd had a lot worse over the years. The only problem was the lightning, it seemed to be getting more intense and Gaunt wasn't too keen on seeing how fierce it could get.

The disintegrator was the first to go, plucked out of her hand and tossed aside. With that out of the way, he could take his documents. If she would hold still for half a second, that is. He shook her for a moment to try to daze her before taking the documents and tossing her aside. "Not bad, kid. Rat's Nest could use someone like you. If you ever want regular work, come looking for us. Check the underground, ask around." The vampire turned, taking a few steps before a powerful leap carried him onto a rooftop.

A few blocks and an invisibility trick later, Gaunt pored over the documents. It was a good haul, just what he needed. This lightning girl had a good eye, he hoped she took him up on the offer. Of course, she might come after him for revenge, but he could handle that when the time came.

Unless she showed up during daylight, then he would be zargnarfed.

It was like hitting a brick wall and all with no apparent effect on the guy. This fact infuriated Elodie, especially when he lifted her off her feet, dangling by one arm. I'm going to distroy him! Elodie thought in her fury. She was even tempted on biting the arm that was holding her, for surely that would have some effect on him, right? That or break her teeth.

He even had the nerve of plucking her disintegrator out of her trapped hand and tossing it aside as though it wasn't something extreme dangerous. For a moment Elodie was fearful, because what if it went off? Bad things would happen, that was for sure.
Elodie snarled as he shook her, becoming somewhat daze as he took the files and tossed her aside like a rag doll. She rolled, to minimize any possible injuries, and then glared at Gaunt as he once more called her a kid and something about a rat's nest.

Before she could blast him with a ball of electricity he left, disappearing with a powerful leap. She quickly got up, her nose flaring with anger as she let out a yell of fustration, shooting the electricity skyward. That bastard! How dare he! She thought as she glared up at the rooftop before getting her disintegrator, quickly scanning over it before putting it back in its pocket. She'll be needing to get out of there ASAP. However, that didn't stop her from getting out her one-time-use-before-throwing-away cell phone, making a call to an informant who had a certain gambling problem and was constantly in need of money.

Their conversation was the usual for most villains and informants, with plenty of threats thrown around until finally her informant complied, asking her what she needed to know. "I want everything there is to know about an organization called Rat's Nest, got it? Every rumor, every gossip piece, everything." She ordered, planning on searching for maps of the underground as soon as she returned home.
