How to Become a Titan
The first step is getting one of the core members to meet your character and get them to give a communicator. The core members are Robin, Cyborg, Raven, Beast Boy, and Starfire. Thankfully, we have most of these characters as our admins, myself included.
Silv plays Robin
Elena plays Cyborg and Starfire
Bry plays Raven
Avi plays Beast Boy
Aly and Kenni can also hand out communicators in the event we get overwhelmed with threads. They play Batgirl and Speedy respectively (Robin trusts Batgirl and Speedy is leader of Titans East so they're good on that front). You may PM any one of us, preferably in that order, or tag us in the thread you wish to act as your starting point by simply adding @ in front of our usernames. For example, if you want Robin (as everyone does ;D) then put
@silv
somewhere in your post. If Silv cannot answer because TOO MANY people want her and her amazing self, I'll likely pop in with Cyborg instead, but we'll try as best as possible to accommodate specific preferences (feel free to request Starfire instead, for instance). When our characters get to know yours well enough to get a gauge of their skills and potential, your character will be given a communicator. Huzzah! Step one is complete.
This communicator has permissions that reflect your characters ranking. Yes, we have a ranking system. Moving up the ranks is a reflection of your activity on the site. The more you thread with the Titans, the more they grow to trust your character, the more privileges they gain as Titans. This is a way of honouring established connections and encouraging new characters to get involved in the site.
Rank 1: the Titan does not move in to the Tower. They go on patrols with more experienced members to be mentored and establish rapport. They are called in for fights on a needs-only basis and usually for the least-dangerous of missions. Access to Titans Tower is limited; can only be allowed access by permission and for training purposes. Communicators are one-way only (higher rank-> your character) with the exception of a distress signal. They communicate with others by being synced up to their patrol partners, or when they are (on the rare occasion) on a squad fighting.
Rank 2: the Titan is assigned more flexible patrols, may even on a rare occasion solo if the need calls for it. They are now called in regularly to fight lower-class criminals and must come in for regular training sessions to the tower. Still must be accompanied by higher rank members for mentoring. Still requires authorization for entrance to tower. Communicator privilege upped to initiating communication within squadrons via 'sync up' (i.e. not required to have another do it for them).
Rank 3: the Titan is regularly assigned patrol and called in for handling criminal situations. They can patrol in absence of a higher rank member, and will sometimes be mentors themselves. Regularly train at the Tower and may access it at any time with a card. Inside the tower some things, such as databases and very sensitive information, is off-limits, as well as certain areas like the evidence room. They can however come by for informal visits without needing permission. They may be called to join tough battles when needed, and will regularly be delegated to middle-tier villains. Communicator privilege upped to sending communications among rank and lower, still can 'sync up' to members on their squads when out on patrol together/fighting regardless of rank. Will receive and answer distress signals if a fellow Titan is in trouble.
Rank 4: the Titan is a mentor to others, who is well trained and understands how the Team works. They train intensively at the Tower, and are involved in strategic moves. When they are not accompanying lower-rank members on their missions, they are involved in the high-risk category of fights. They are the rank the Core Titans go to when they need someone to lead a mission aside from themselves. They are granted greater access to areas that are off-limits to lower ranks, and may actively use computer databases and other resources to help with a mission. They have access to Guest Rooms when their work and training requires them to stay overnight, and may sometimes even be asked by Rank 5 members to work alongside them for research. Communicator privileged upped to contacting most members. Have the option to 'block' communication from anyone but synced up individuals when on a high-risk mission (such as an undercover job).
Rank 5: the Titan who is on equal rank of the Core Members. This Titan has the privilege of moving in and having the highest access to the Tower with minimal restriction. They are the leaders, whom the others must answer to. They are actively involved in decision making, and are the ones who promote other Titans to higher ranks. They have the greatest rapport with the Core Members, and can have great influence on them. They are in the best position to challenge and question their leader, Robin, on his decisions both as Titans and as friends. Communicator privilege is upped to communication with ALL members, and the ability to override any private communications with the exceptions of those in equal rank. They can easily send Titan-wide announcements, and can even override 'blocked' connections if required. Communication between Rank 5 members is strictly private, with the highest encryption (hence why they cannot override each other's communications). Robin can be the only exception, seeing as how he is The Leader~
Moving Up in Rank
If you're wondering how to move up, there will be many opportunities! Starfire will in particular be helping those of the lower rank, 1 and 2, by eagerly meeting new faces in her friendly way and will be leading Rank 1 patrols as much as she can. If you're nice enough (i.e a decent person) she's likely to invite you over for training—thus getting that permission to enter the Tower and introduce to other members if they don't already know your character. The Titans will also have social events that will be open to ALL Titans, such as a day in the park, beach, ordering pizza at their favourite joint, etc. which is good for social networking. If you wanna be their roommate, you gotta get with their friends ;D Make it last fo-eva, FRIENDSHIP NEVER ENDS until Slade like wipes your memory or you hog the remote, you know, major angst stuff.
BIG PLOTS will also involve all Titans some way or the other, so sometimes even Rank 1 members will have to get swept in because there is no other choice but to use every asset possible.
Aside from this, feel free to hop into someone's plot page, no matter their Rank. Lower rank Titans need to be mentored after all, and the very act of having that relationship is MUTUALLY beneficial. Lower ranks get the experience they need to move up, and great mentors are likelier to move up to Rank 5 because that's the quality of leaders.
UPDATE 17.09.2015
We've been getting a lot of questions about the rankings and how to move up your Titan, so, we’ve been developing a ranking system to make it so that you can keep track of how closer your Titan is to moving up a level. This is a game, and like any game you have to pass certain achievement points in order to rank up. When considering a move in rank there are FOUR categories you must consider:
PATROLS: these are simple and straightforward strategic surveying of the city to keep it safe. Sometimes they're eventful. Sometimes they're not. When a higher ranked (2 - 5) is patrolling on the job with a lower ranked Titan. It's like social; but it's a chance for more personal bonding and where lower ranks can ask questions. Higher ranks who lead patrols can count it toward leadership as well. A two for one deal.
MISSIONS: open threads labelled missions are when a villain (either a character or NPC) is causing trouble and it demands Titan attention. Joining these threads and actively participating will count toward your ranking. If you're lower rank, in-roleplay it is assume you have been called in by a higher ranked Titan. In most cases, one will already have joined if it has received a mission label.
LEADERSHIP: these are moments when your Titan steps up to lead those of a lower rank. This can be anything from leading patrols, to training with a character in a tower, to helping a lower-ranked Titan during a mission. Any instance where your higher level Titan is helping a lower level Titan can be considered a leadership activity. The same applies to any mission or patrol your higher level Titan leads. [/ul]
Training is assumed to happen within the story on a regular basis as outlined in the ranks, but it is not necessarily to rank up. You can still make threads at your disclosure in the tower as appropriate to your rank/access level. It's up to you!
So, how many of each of these things do you need in order to rank up? Everyone starts at level 1 when they first receive their communicator. It is through these activities that you can up a rank. Make sure to keep track of how many of each you complete between rankings! The admins will try to keep track of it, but we might not be as quick to notice you're ready for the next level as you are. Here is how many threads in each category you need in order to move ranks:
Missions: 5 Patrols: 2 Leadership: 0 Social: 2
UPGRADE TO LEVEL 3
Missions: 5 Patrols: 2 Leadership: 1 Social: 3
UPGRADE TO LEVEL 4
Missions: 6 Patrols: 2 Leadership: 2 Social: 4
UPGRADE TO LEVEL 5
Missions: 6 Patrols: 3 Leadership: 3 Social: 4[/ul][/font]
Once you have accrued enough threads of each type to move up a level please PM an admin (or better, copy us all) with a message that states you believe your character is ready to move up a level. Please provide links to each of the threads that add up to allow your character to move to the next ranking. Also, a quick summary of their achievements during that level will help make our job easier. Just because you have the minimum number of threads, however, does not guarantee you an automatic upgrade. Upgrades in rank will also be determined by the trust level that high-level Titans have in your character, as well as how successful the missions, patrols, and training you were involved in were. We reserve the right to hold your character back if we do not feel they are ready for an upgrade. This is on an individual basis, however, and will probably not happen often.
