With a groan, Batgirl put her hand on her face, instantly regretting what she did. She definitely overreacted. No matter how many times she had this conversation with her father, she always lost. Now the one time she has that argument with a friend, she goes ballistic and hits him across the face with the gun. That probably really hurt. Damn. Without a word to Robin, Batgirl walked back out of the gym and strode to the elevator, quickly pushing the button for the garage. She needed to fix this. She couldn't lose her friend over a stupid argument over what kind of weapon he uses. Especially with her father being a policeman and carrying one on his hip at all times.
In a few minutes, Batgirl was racing across town, sticking to the backroads and alleys, racing to Alphy's house. It was in the old part of town, probably built by his billionaire grandfather or something. Lucky. It didn't take her long to pull up into the alley and hide her Batcycle beneath a tarp packed in her saddlebags by the trash. Satisfied by her work, she darted around the corner and grappled to the roof, searching for Alphy's window. She had been in his room before, but she had actually been invited into the house. Alphy's mom probably wouldn't invite Batgirl into her home, having no clue that she was really Alphy's friend Babs.
She slunk through the window, seeing no Alphy in the room. Sighing, Batgirl peeked out the door, making sure his mom was nowhere to be seen, and spotted Penumbra's hat in the hallway. Well, here's a clue. She rolled her eyes at herself and picked it up, following the trail to the library, having picked up his scarf and mask along the way.
The door creaked as she entered, and Batgirl closed it quietly behind her. Alphy was in the large chair by the fireplace, reading a book. She couldn't see what the book was, but she could see the red, swollen mark she had left on his cheek. Steeling herself, Batgirl tossed the items onto the chair across from him and crossed the room to his side. "Hey." She finally sunk to her knees by his side, gently brushing his cheeks with her fingertips. Her voice was barely louder than a whisper, but she knew he could hear her fine. "I'm so sorry. I really didn't mean to hurt you. I've just... seen what happens when... You know Batman..." She sighed and dropped her hand, frowning and casting her eyes down. "You were right, though. I heard what you said to Robin while I was walking down the hall. Our Batarangs, Cyborg's sonic canon, Starfire's starbolts... any of them could be just as lethal as a gun. I was raised to realize that guns were not safe, but still necessary. My training with Batman clouded that. But seeing you leave like that..." She looked back up to him and placed her hand on his. "I'm sorry. I'm so terribly sorry. What I did was wrong. What Robin said was wrong. Our duty is to protect, and sometimes guns are necessary. I've seen you in action, and I've never seen you use it. I didn't know you even had it. I know you wouldn't use it unless you absolutely had to."
