Characters: Charlie, and Open to whoever goes to Kingston. Setting: Kingston High Academy hallways around 9 AM, middle of classes. Previous Threads:Extra Sass on the Side I guess. Plot Summary: A new school, new people, same old story. Charlie's wandering the hallways looking for entertainment. Anyone around to harass, any hall monitors to play with?
Let the record show that she didn’t want to be at this school anyway so it was only right that she explored it herself. It wasn’t any different than the last one, full of pretentious rich people in a never-ending game of trends and popularity. A who’s who of the next generation's leaders and innovators. These kids couldn't lead a thirsty horse to water unless it put them on top of the social hierarchy. There were a few interesting things about this school, but there were interesting things at the last too. Normal people tried to mix with the ‘elite’, it was entertaining to watch them mingle for a little while before Charlie got bored and slipped away from her tour guide. Some girl with a cutesy name starting with a D and one of those people that took school too seriously, her overly peppy attitude was grating on the blonde’s nerves. Plus the obvious obsession with Charlie’s mother was almost enough to make her punch the smaller brunette. So it was good that she put space between them, a lot of space, like an entire wing or something.
Looking around the empty halls she unwrapped one of her many sucker candies and rolled it around her mouth as she started to wander. Classes were still going and Charlie peeked into a few of the classroom windows. One class was studying Milton’s Paradise Lost, another the joys of Trigonometry, and the next looked like Chemistry of some kind. Lingering at that window for a moment she hoped someone would mix something wrong, cause an exciting reaction and when no one did Charlie moved on with a small look of disappointment on her face.
The emptiness of the hallways was rather eerie, did no one patrol the halls for people playing hooky? This school was going to be so easy to slip out of. A smirk played on her lips and she folded her hands behind her back, humming a playful tune she kept walking. The skirt she was forced to wear as her uniform swayed as she walked, Charlie’s face piercings weren’t allowed but no one said she couldn’t keep her ear studs and loops or her red contacts. Well, if they did she wasn’t listening. Too enamored with the principle’s freaky combover.
Where were the music rooms? She wondered before giving her sucker a good crunch. Charlie was getting bored of this school already.
Kingston had several rooms dedicated to certain arrangements of instruments and the like, the Headmaster bent on at least looking cultured and artsy to the PTA.
There were actually many talented members of marching band, orchestra, show choir, even a barbershop singing group or three found their practice space, and there was often overlap with the dance and drama clubs to keep things interesting.
Tate liked the music wing early in the morning. It wasn't for the reason one might think.
It was dead quiet all along the hall, and the first class wouldn't start until next period, so he had about an hour to let loose in here.
The mob-son had been broken into the drumming world under something of a tutelage with his yappy, narcissist upperclassman, Roy Harper, for a couple of months here before winter break got into full swing. The ginger was annoying but meant well, was rather friendly, and wasn't all that bad a guy for a surface-bully.
Harper was almost a 'neutral' kind of bully, if such a term existed. On a whim he'd use his powers of self-importance to equivalently ignore someone into obscurity for either their protection or detriment with other bullies.
He'd seen Harper take down many a freshie and sophomore with his classic This Is A Drive-By shouldering into lockers, for example. It was actually something of a high-level technique, and it was difficult to ascertain whether the crazy senior was unaware he was even brusquely brushing past someone too quickly attend to his own agenda, or purposefully doing so.
So far, it seemed the quiet Dilettevole freshman had escaped his penchant for ambivalent hazing, and instead, the two boys shared an appreciation for keeping up on their arm-work, which made them cross paths at both the gym AND this very music room here at school on more than one occasion.
Whaling on a drum-set was great stress-relief, and exercise, when he couldn't get to the gym before class.
This place had nice digs, European architecture in America just screamed ‘high-class’. Though on this side of the states it seemed more pretentious than high-class. It worked in New York because of the history and such but here it just seemed misplaced. They should have got with something more California looking, what was the style? Spanish colonial? Something like the school from 90210 or Buffy. Those kinds of schools had a more laid-back vibe, but that was just how T.V. schools were. Then again with rumors of the heroes going here there had to be a pretty lax absent policy.
Charlie started another sucker since she crunched her last one too soon, this one was blue raspberry. A grating and familiar voice started to echo in the halls and caused Charlie to pick up speed. She really didn’t want to get found by that Darla or whatever chick. The decor of the hallways started to feature music citation along with a few empty rooms featuring instruments, a couple of pianos and a harp in one then a beautiful grand piano in another. When she was younger her parents bought her lessons, it was what started her love of music. Not that she would thank her parents for it. Ever.
The sound of a pretty wicked drum beat lead her to what looked like an empty music room with a drum set and a few guitars. They caught her attention for a while as she admired the fine instruments. Then the whole drums being played by floating sticks caught her attention. She had heard her fair share of ghost stories around schools but they all ended up being pranks and what not. Charlie didn’t believe in ghosts anyway, once someone was gone that was it…
Quietly, she slipped into the room and leaned on the door. Crossing her arms over her chest, she listened till the drum beat finished. The only exit, unless the windows could open wide enough, was the door so whoever was playing the drums didn’t have much chance of escape. When it was over she smiled and started clapping.
“Nice beat, mind if I get a look at who’s holding the sticks? Or is this some weird ghost activity that happens at this school cause that would make this place very interesting!” She rolled the sucker around before settling it in her cheek. “Maybe we could start a band! Having a ghost drummer would be a major hook,” Charlie said.
It was always nice having free periods in the morning. He was right on schedule, and from here would get along to his first class of the day without missing a beat.
Tate wrapped up his micro-session, taking note of the time. He'd have gym class next. Good thing he'd stretched so thoroughly!
As he set the sticks down on the snare, and reopened his eyes, though, he was startled so much by the fancily highlighted blonde's being there, that he forgot she couldn't even see him.
Also, he phased completely through the set-seat.
A few tufts of his dark hair might have flashed on his way to the floor due to the brief change from invisibility to intangibility, but as his behind hit the carpet, he turned his cloaking back on.
The flight impulse was strong; not only was the freshman taken off-guard and sore for it in a couple of different ways, he could hear that Darla's voice reprimanding someone who was late for class, right at the entrance to the music wing. Tate crept along the wall and made for the room's double-doors. If he could slip behind her, as she was still facing the drum-set, he could get away without incident.
If this older student (he judged by her height, and the confidence oozing from her despite possibly dealing with a ghost) hadn't thrown him off schedule from her random appearance...
But there was no time for that, now.
The noisy female hall-monitor for the morning was strolling self-importantly down the music wing, and he could just see her face over Charlie's shoulder in the glass of the, inconveniently, totally glass double-doors.
Assessing his options...Tate turned and quickly clutched that shoulder from behind, his arm over her collarbone, covering her mouth in case she cried out from the sudden 'poltergeist activity'. He kept his eyes trained on Darla.
The tactician's cloaking ability should have caught Charlie up in its influence by their skin contact, so that now, as their nosy hall-monitor passed along, she hardly made a fuss because no one was there.
Still, the girl's compliments and idea were cause for contemplation. It couldn't hurt to spice things up around pretentious ol' Kingston, right..?
Tate at least tried to mask his voice, putting on a gruffness that he hoped made him sound a bit older, before he responded.
"Thank you..! I've been..haunting this room all semester, but haven't been approached with a business proposal before." As a freshman class rep, he felt a slight obligation to create fun events for the other students.
He let her go, for obvious reasons. Like not getting decked by any wild flailing or retaliation. And so she could respond.
Thin air spoke to her again, sliding the door open to exit the music room.
"You've caught me right at class change-over! I really must be going, but we can work out the details some other time. Naturally, I'll find you."
Maybe being some band's ghost-drummer would seriously rock.

The roleplay takes place after the series end of the original Teen Titans animated show, but does not include the movie Trouble in Tokyo. Since then Robin has been on something of a recruiting spree, and many new young heroes have found themselves a home in Jump City as well as Titan Tower.
