Heard her coming a mile away

Kaie's face fell when she saw her comrade walking down the alley. Alas, there was not a thief in sight. "She got away." she said sadly. Once again, Kaie would come back empty-handed. The docks were really not her place. "Bloody teleporters! I wish I coulda helped ya, but I'm no too fast on rooftops." This patrol had not really played to her strengths. Kaie was considering talking to Robin about that, she needed routes that wouldn't make her a burden to her teammates.

She fell into step beside Spoiler, walking slowly to make up for her teammate's shorter strides. "Sorry I were no help back there, guess I was kinda useless tonight." This had gotten her pretty down. They'd caught a thief red-handed, and still they couldn't seal the deal. It was the most frustrating moment she'd had so far in her career, even worse than the argument with that suspicious character her and Vincent had found a few months back.

Stephanie didn't have much to say, Kaie had hit the nail on the head. The thief got away. Her first trial for Batgirl failed. This was going to look terrible on her. If only her first trial had been that time with the gravity chick. That actually went sort of well! I mean, she got away, but Steph made it so she likely wouldn't be causing a ruckus ever again. Mission pretty much accomplished. Then Kaie said something odd. Teleporters? She didn't remember the thief doing any teleporting... unless... that weird moment where she got vertigo was actually a teleportation of herself. Which meant... THAT'S HOW SHE GOT OUT OF THE ALLEYWAY.

Steph quickly grabbed Kaie's arm and dragged her back in the direction she came from. "It may be a little early to call yourself useless Rumble! I just got an idea about where our little thief might be going!" Stephanie let go of Kaie and kept up a run, knowing Kaie would be easily able to keep up with her. She was not gonna give up this easily since she knew that thief could've gone only one of two places and was likely trying to get herself away from the scene in the fastest way possible. And how did you move quickly in Jump City? In you couldn't drive, you used the train. Upon returning to the storefronts she had lost the thief earlier, Steph looked at the two establishments that sandwiched the alley. "Rumble, you check in the store over there, I'll check this one. Ask if they've seen any girls who left, but didn't come in... Deaf girls in particular," she asked running into the other store on the right of the alley. Immediately, she opened the door and shut it tight and turned to the people inside. "Everyone if you can hear me, put your hands in your pockets! This is an emergency! Do it quickly!" she commanded, knowing if her thief was in here, she wouldn't know what she was being ordered to do thanks to Stephanie's face mask. It was an innocent enough request too, so most people SHOULD comply. Her communicator was fairly visible on her belt too to ensure she wasn't a criminal of any kind.

"Right!" Kaie perked up a bit. Maybe her size could come in handy after all. She couldn't really sneak, but she could take up a lot of space and be intimidating. Besides, the thief hadn't heard her before. Maybe if she poked her head in somewhere, the one who hadn't heard the rumbling footsteps would be the culprit.

The giantess crawled through the door, keeping a lookout. She didn't see the thief in there, but she couldn't be too careful. "Did a girl in a dark outfit jus come in here? Teleport maybe? We're lookin fer someone." Everyone stared for a moment. This sort of thing was always awkward, partly because Kaie was pretty sure she didn't look as cool as confident as other heroes did when they asked. They could stand in a cool pose, and she was just on her hands and knees, taking up the whole damn door. It looked either stupidly awkward or unheroically frightening.

After a moment, the nos started coming in. Kaie backed out, looking around for other places the thief could have fled. Sadly, nothing seemed to be turning up. With a dejected sigh, she returned to rendezvous with Spoiler. All in all, this had been a very disappointing outing.

Cat smiled and bowed before disappearing away, after the little game of cat and mouse she had just played, she needed the simple close of the deal. With money in storage and all the loose end tied up neatly, Cat took off to give the money over to Mr Nos and head to bed. She had school in the morning and rapped fire teleporting was starting to give her a head ache.

Anne peeled off her mask and looked at a moment, putting it away. She moved slowly peeling off the rest of her costume and changing into her pajamas. The young math wiz yawned as she climbed into bed with her dogs flopped out on the floor. Absently she wondered what the purple girl had been yelling at her, before drifting off to sleep.
