"I know the feeling." He wasn't sure if she was exaggerating her connections. The Rats weren't too much of a secret anymore. People knew that there was something down in the tunnels, something that didn't like to be disturbed. There weren't a lot of specifics out yet, but the word "monster" was bandied about a lot. Gaunt liked the sound of that, it had the kind of vague menace that could do wonders for their reputation.
Charlie seemed pretty keen on the door. "You get a code. I have the master code, unlocks any door, bypasses whatever. You get a code for your clearance level." Gaunt was doing his best to make sure his Warren had state-of-the-art security. The one in LA had been a little weird, a mix of tech levels over the century or so of its existence. The end result was an insane mishmash of locks, traps, and stolen neon signs. Gaunt wanted something more professional. He was starting a place up here, and he needed to put on a good face for the paying public. And unlike the LA Warren, he actually had a place the public could be allowed to see. Appearing out of shadows was good, but having a professional meeting space was better for some things.
"Clients. We have people come down here for meetings, this is where we hash out the details." He led her down the stairs, into a concrete hallway. There were other corridors branching off, and rooms visible down either way. "This is the Warren. Dorms are down that way, the kitchen and break room are down there, and surveillance central is up there with my office and the armory." He pointed off different directions as he spoke. "There's maps on the walls in case you get lost. I'll be in my office, feel free to have a look around."
