Happy Valentine's Month, TTGG!~
Alien invasions weren't exactly the most romantic of things, and they did little to get the citizens of Jump City in the googley-eyed spirit of Valentine's Day. With people panicked, hiding fearfully in their homes, there was no one to eat out at cafes and high class restaurants. There was no one to go on dates-without-the-kids and no teenagers to spend just a little too much money trying to win a claw machine stuffed toy for their lady (or guy) friend. Business was starting to fall, even with almost an entire quiet month free from alien threats, and the City took action. Both to raise the public's morale and to keep businesses from going bankrupt.
The city's solution waslove! hosting a delightful Valentine's event in the JC Central Park. The holiday saw various shades of pink and white and red ribbons and streamers, strewn through the trees and decorating fences and picnic tables. Food vendors and love-themed carnival games were set up along most of the main pathways and the central courtyard had a few rides set up and ready for operation. Across the way, a trio of horse-drawn carriages were parked, waiting to take couples on romantic rides through the park, and a Ferris wheel stood overlooking the stage, where a large dance floor was ready to be slow danced and awkwardly swayed upon, once the sun set and the twinkle lights blinked on to take the streamers' places in the trees.
While the main targets for the festivities were couples, there were a couple of picnic tables set up to the side of the stage, designated for speed dating, and a number of the vendors, rides and games were kid-oriented. There was something for everyone, old and young, single and taken, hero, villain, or neither. And already, people were filing into the park, their voices and laughter replacing the peace and quiet that Raven normally found there.
The Titans had once again been asked to keep watch over the event, though the officials who did the asking made it very clear that this should be kept quiet. The party was being thrown for the sole purpose of calming people down and rekindling their confidence in the safety of their City. The Titans' presence was supposed to enhance that, but it'dBlackfire backfire completely if the citizens knew their leaders were anticipating another attack from a certain few blue aliens.
Raven stood quietly to the side of the festivities, under a tree, watching the sun slowly falling behind the cityscape, like it was melting into the spaces between the buildings. At the moment, the party was going strong, but once the sun was down and the moon was up, the festivities would really get going and Raven was relishing the last few moments of relative peace before that happened.
She was dressed simply this evening, in a black dress that laced down her arms and raggedly brushed just above her knees, corset ties criss-crossing over her ribs. Her boots were also black and rather unassuming, and over top of her outfit was a lighter version of her ever-present indigo cloak. Her arms were crossed over her chest, one ankle over the other as she leaned against the tree, but a look of contentment was on her face. Not exactly a smile. Not entirely approachable. But.... Friendly. Sorta.
The other Titans were out and about around the park, though what they were up to she knew not. Raven was merely observing, waiting for a certain archer friend of hers who was supposed to be showing up to enjoy the night with her, as they both played chaperon for the City.
Normally, Raven did not celebrate Valentine's Day. She'd never really been one of the bitter singles who scoffed at the sappiness of the holiday, mostly because she hadn't cared to date anyone anyway. The emotions of love were too much of a hassle to control, and with the good would come the bad. Since her seventeenth birthday, however, since Trigon had been conquered and she was no longer under the pressure of a looking forward to a future of hell on earth.... Raven had understandably lightened up a bit. Dating Speedy didn't necessarily mean she'd become one of the girls who lived for Valentine's Day and chocolates and roses and stuffed bears larger than she was, but.... She could appreciate a day designated to celebrate the existence of love.
The cutout hearts and cupids in the trees were a bit much.... But.
The sentiment was a sweet one.
