From the defendant's chair, a young man stares in horror as the prosecution systematically convinces an imposing judge that he committed an act of murder. That can't be right, though! He could remember waking up next to the victim, but he knew he didn't murder him, he would never do such a thing! His defense attorney, a young and inexperienced young man, tries and fails to prove his innocence. The judge is not swayed by his arguments, and soon, his gavel raises as he announces his verdict...
However, when he looks at the defense attorney, he notices a confidant grin. He nods at the defendant, before facing the judge. With a powerful, awe-inspiring voice, he shouts...
"OBJECTION!"
------------
So, being a fan of the Ace Attorney games, I thought it could be interesting if we tried to do an Ace Attorneybook game club type... thing.
Basically, Ace Attorney is a game about lawyers trying to prove someone did or didn't do a crime, and it plays out like a murder mystery, with the main character usually filling the shoes of a defense attorney fighting an uphill battle to prove that their client is innocent, while also exposing the true murderer. This process consists of investigating crime scenes, then stepping into the court room to do battle against a prosecutor, all the while finding contradictions in the testimonies of witnesses, presenting evidence that proves an argument or theory, and occasionally bluffing and stalling.
For this sort of idea, I came up with a few ideas for what we could do.
1. Ace Attorney characters meet Teen Titans characters.
Simple enough. Through some odd twist of fate, some of the Ace Attorney cast find themselves wrapped up in a murder mystery in Jump City, and it's up to Phoenix Wright to prove his client, a Titan/Villain/other is innocent, with the victim being some poor hero or villain that'll be determined via volunteer.
2. Teen Titans ARE the Ace Attorney characters.
A little trickier. The case will take place in Los Angeles, with the characters being titans or villains that mix with the personalities of the Ace Attorney characters, like Robin being the eponymous Phoenix Wright, Starfire being the trusty assistant, Maya Fey, Beast Boy being the ditzy Larry Butz, Raven being the cold and logical Miles Edgeworth, and Cyborg being the coffee loving prosecutor Godot.
3. Ace Attorney in name only, set in an AU!Teen Titans canon.
The Titans are themselves, but they find themselves trying to prove that someone is innocent through logic and proof, rather than fists or starbolts. My least favorite choice, honestly, since it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense.
What do you all think?
