Put Away the Toys

It seemed haunting rumors stuck to Stephanie like glue. If it wasn't a haunted mansion, it was an abandoned factory that had mysterious noises coming from it. The latter of which was the case in fact. Krank Co. Toys at one point had a manufacturing location here in Jump City. Stephanie remembered the location in Gotham with it's giant creepy teddy bear statue on the sign. Like Gotham's location, the Jump City location shut down quite some time ago. Labor strikes and general lazy policies of Krank Co. left all the machinery and half finished merchandise alive and rotting in the building, so of course rumors had begun to go around about said machinery coming to life and raucous cheering from the factory.
Much like the last haunting she went and investigated, she was pretty sure it was just overactive imaginations at work but... as the last investigation also taught her, truth was sometimes stranger than fiction. Her only worry on this particular patrol though was the fact it was Krank Co. specifically. Until Batman shut the CEO down, the toys were known to attack the children who bought them and everything was a real mess. The last thing she wanted was some nutter to pick up the CEO's trail and sick an army of deadly toys onto her. Talk about a resume builder. "2014: Defeated army of villainous toys. Supervisor: Batgirl | Cell Phone: Unknown"
As she approached the factory, his initial suspicions seemed correct as the facility was completely dark and silent. There were several doors into the warehouse, but most were either locked or rusted shut from years of being left alone. She didn't have a real chance to think about another method of entry as as soon as she let go of the first door knob she tried to use to get in, the whole building lit up like a solar flare. Voices began to chatter from inside like they'd just been woken up from their sleep. Well, no confirmation on ghosts, but someone had definitely taken up residence in the factory.
Stephanie knew she was going to need the upper hand here as these folks were on their own turf leaving her at a disadvantage. She looked above and saw a nice wedge on the roof she could claw up to. She pulled out her handmade grappling hook and pulled herself up onto the tin roof of the factory and looked for any windows where she could get a view of the inner layout. To her surprise, each and every one had been boarded over from the inside. No wonder no one had been able to investigate; this place was locked up tighter than Gotham Western. Seeing no real other choice, Stephanie busted out some explosive gel Batgirl had given to her, courtesy of Lucius Fox.
She nervously took the canister and gave it a shake as instructed. Her hand shook a little as she sprayed an X onto a portion of the roof. She hobbled over to the other side of the roof at least 30 feet away and held out the detonator. She very meekly looked at the black little button waiting to be pressed. It felt like ages as her thumb slowly descended onto the button. She shut her eyes and clenched her teeth as it pressed, but she was met with nothing in return. She looked over the roof arch and saw the gel had not gone off. Frustrated, she began to walk over, only for the gel to explode just as she got close, throwing her fall flat on her back. A little dazed she sat up and saw she'd knocked open a person sized hole in the tin roof. She looked in and was amazed at the sight that beheld her.
The conveyer belts of the factory were in full operation, pumping out doll arms and legs, and heads, but the most amazing part was that the people piecing together the dolls were dolls themselves. As they finished their assembly, dolls would walk themselves off the belt and start to help the dolls already working. A legion of dolls putting each other together to make more members. If that wasn't creepy she didn't know what was. At the head of the operation was a young girl dressed all in purple with a Victorian flair. The sight of more and more dolls joining ranks seemed to leave her giddy with excitement.
