They knew that once the famous diamond was in Jump City that it would be a target for thieves; there was no mistake about it. According to their insider sources, there was already talk in the rumour mill about who would be interested in attempting to steal it. The Amarillo Starighlight Diamond. It was the biggest in the world, and would secure the biggest bragging rights among the thieves, as well as a hefty paycheck on the black market. Knowing the interest was already there, the Titans collaborated with the museum security as well as local law enforcement to not only defend the priceless property, but to create an opportunity for capture.
They needed to entice the most ambitious of the thieves in Jump City to all strike within a certain timeframe. Using their sources, they sent out more rumours about a challenge, creating a sense of urgency to be one of the first to steal it, or the opportunity would be gone. It was, after all, only going to be on display for so long.
It was a Booby Trap. The Titans would be there, waiting, and so would far more security than they had on paper. The whole place was wired. It was the standard layout—a large room full of cases, some of which had bars raised. Armed security guards paced the halls and manoeuvred in routine around the different displays—all except for the Diamond, which had two guards flanking its sides. The only time they wouldn't be there was when they'd rotate, leaving a small window of opportunity.
Cyborg was going to make sure that the security systems in place wouldn't be tampered with, even in the event of a convenient power outage. He'd have back up, repair, and his own meticulous watch on every camera. He was also around to dish out the heavy duty hurt if needed, but thieves weren't really the straight forward types. Much like in RPGs, they'd be stealthy, and the bigger challenge would be detecting them.
Starfire was hidden on standby in the rafters. Her aerial position was useful both as a lookout and to quickly take down any thief. The only downside was they'd have to be careful of damages. This was a museum after all, and despite the reinforced casings, they didn't want to risk destroying any valuable pieces.
Every Titan on the job had been synced up; their positions known to each other on a schematic of the museum that could be accessed on their communicators. They could talk to each other discreetly via an earpiece and microphone that would be perfect for picking up faint whispers. Each person was positioned where they would be best strategically, and Cyborg would be constantly keeping them updated on security surveillance. He was the team leader for this mission.
Starfire had helped prep them for what was expected during combat, since they were joined by rank 1 members. This wasn't a dangerous mission, since they did not expect that the criminals were after any casualties, and they were assisted on all sides by numerous security guards. There was also Jump City police who were overseeing it, so the Titans were not alone. They were mostly there because their criminals were expected to have metahuman or 'super' abilities; which was more a superheroes field. So it was deemed a good mission for them to start with, and Starfire was more than ready to help any of them in case they needed her.
Their primary objective was to protect the diamond. The secondary objective was capture of those who would attempt to take it. That was how they were briefed. They didn't know who they'd be up against, as it depended on who would show up, but missions usually were full of surprises.
