OoC; Nah, no prollem! Baha it’s a woe-is-me worthy subject D: I wunner who ‘they’ were o.o |
Aqualad: Her trembling subsided at long last. It was the most trying ten minutes he had endured in a long while.
What she was insinuating began to sink in, and the lad felt a cold fury spread throughout his usually peaceable frame. He would have shaken her shoulders if the quivering rage had been allowed to shake more than his heart.
”Rapscallion ruffians! The very nerve! ” His dark knit brows veered severely downwards, teeth bared and speech constricted through them.
The thought that the father of Ink would be at fault for mysterious men storming their household and dragging him away, or perhaps killing him on the spot, was not even an option for the boy's analysis of what he knew about the situation so far. But he still had to ask.
"What gain could they possibly have received in.."
How had that cop flick he'd watched with Beast Boy the other night said it?
" 'shaking down' ..ah..'you two fellas', so indiscriminately!? Did they not pay heed to your pleas? To reason? The landdweller's surface-world is wrought with idiocy..." brooded the prince.
Said rage had no power over his hands anymore, thank Triton. He was too self-conscious of holding her like this, and the embarrassment had frozen his palms to her shoulders. Those puppies were not moving for anything.
They were like that time Speedy had told Brooks to stick his tongue to a frozen pole last winter.
"Ah dant know why they came after us Garth. Mae father did but that died with him." She said a bit surprised at his initial tone. Anger had not been the response she was expecting, especially not from her calm and cheerful friend. She did have a theory though, one that was almost cliche among supers like themselves.
Government.
Even in these days when it was accepted that some people were more gifted then others, the governments of the world still had wars to wage and the newest weapons to make. And figuring out how to turn normal soldiers into super soldiers seemed to be the not so secret goal of most of them.
"We didnay have time to plead or beg... We only had time tae run... Ah tried tae fight em, but ah was young. Tae inexperianced tae know better." she added trying to answer his question"Mae beast took tae much energy, et was tae big fer mae and et knocked mae oot fer days." she continued trying to talk around the knot in her throat that came back at admitting her biggest failure.
"Mae father got mae tae an old couples house and left mae there before leaving tae draw them off mae trail... When ah woke up they told mae they thought ah had died ah was oot fer so long." she paused for a couple of calming breaths and to draw strength from the hands still on her shoulders now that he could see that it really was her fault.
If she hadn't summoned that beast then she could have ran with her father, instead of stalling him by making him carry her to a house that would watch over her, and then running off again. If he hadn't had to do all that then they would have had time to run.
“I cannot begin to express how much I feel for you--!” Stop. Restart.
This wasn’t a lover’s confession, was it?
He flushed immediately at how that first sentence had come across, already tense and worried how long his arms could hold out. ”…Milady’s father was…is a brave and honourable hero, and…O, that the fiends responsible see retribution for their misdeeds…” he fumbled, as the sorrow in her voice threatened to drown him with far more alacrity than water could were he to lose his affinities for it.
As he listened to her recounting of her horrible childhood experiences, Garth let his palms travel down Ink’s arms until they were just past her biceps, cradling her elbows.
Her skin, O, her skin.
Right atop her shoulders as those palms had been was in retrospect safer for them both. Then, the boy had been an anchoring force, sturdy as a support, but it had felt awkward after so many long minutes of recounted suffering. Now, by not keeping the support to the extremities, but moving in, the boy was not only going against all he’d ever been taught about keeping a respectable distance from a lady— especially from a lady one…fancied—but also at risk of bringing her to himself in a much internally-contested embrace.
Which is precisely why it was so easy to lose out to that contest.
“If..I may be so bold…as to summarily decree that no more running is in order for Milady’s future, I would also command that she…worry no further. That she…hurt, no further. As I hold her no further…than near to my heart..!”
As he held her now, having brought her arms to encircle him back from the way he held them, having braced her midback crossing his own arms over it, his fingers dug into her ribcage. It was a little more awkward than the first ‘hug’ prototype the boy was developing with her had been, rigid arms holding her at length. Yes, in fact, he supposed this could also be seen, as winning that contest.
"I feel for you--!” He said before stopping. And by his flush she almost wanted to fool herself into believing that the young and proper prince meant more then just sympathy. She was sure she was putting him out of his element since he wasn't the "sharing feelings and history" kind of lad. Thus she doubted he would ever share (or even have) those sorts of feelings for her.
She nodded slightly to show that she acknowledge his statement about her father once she was able to focus enough on his next words to understand what had been said. The "I feel for you--!” had temporarily fogged her brain. "Withoot him ah cant ken what would have happened tae mae... But they will never pay, nay enough." she growled in a rare show of violent intentions, as her mind revisited dreams of revenge long since forgotten. They were a faceless nameless enemy, she didn't even know where they came from. They were probably sent by people with a lot of power and numbers... People she wasn't strong enough to face on her own. Nor could she go through the law as she was certain it was those in charge of the law that were the guilty party. No... Ink would never have the revenge she had craved long ago on the men who had done this to them.
As quickly as the anger came it was gone again as his hands traveled down her arms. Even given the circumstances, and perhaps even more so since she instinctively longed for human contact, she felt her pulse race and her face flush like his had not long before.
Her conflicting feelings of sorrow and what could only be described as excitement only built as Garth spoke again and pulled her in for a hug. "Near to my heart" he said, and she felt her breath catch at the most romantic thing she had yet to hear. She longed to just stay next to him, in the protective embrace of a friend. Even though it was the most awkward hug probably in the history of hugs and it hurt where his finger dug into her ribs a bit, she held him a bit tighter. As soon as her mind acknowledged that she was actually enjoying the hug, a sweeping wave of guilt crashed down on her for it.
She knew she should not feel that way. Not today of all days. It was the anniversary of her fathers death! A death she had caused! She didn't even deserve to lay her burden on another shoulders let alone bask in the hugs of her most attractive team mate. So she pulled away.
Pulled away and even moved out of arms reach, shame clearly written on her face. "Ahm sorry Garth... Ah shouldnay have..." she mumbled trying to make amends. Garth clearly didn't know the effect he had on her when he so much as brushed her skin, or the proper prince would never dare. The fact that he broke his strict code of conduct for her now was a surprise for her. And even though she shouldn't have gotten the hug in the first place she knew she would remember his touch.
OOC: Kenners I forgot to add a wee bit of important information about how her beast went off on a rampage so Im gonna try and fit that in soon, sorry bout that
OoC; Oh, at your leisure! c: I'll try to have him divert some attention from the awkward by telling some stories of his own, now that I've got a better handle on his history from apping. They can be secrets buddies. ^^ &&once again. Waaay too long to wait for this thread. P'x I'm a lagger I knowww, forgive meee. Here it being a blitz thread, too, mouu. >.<|
Aqualad:
As quickly as he'd begun to grow warm, the prince was back below zero, at least in his heart. It became an icy pit, which seemed to drop into the pit of his stomach; he had held her? He had held her! He had overstepped his bounds!
His elbow pushed his cereal bowl to the dining room floor. Milk and soggy wheat spilled about his toes. Garth's face burned alongside the chill ache in his abdomen. Ink was recoiling from him!
Whatever comfort he had thought would be accomplished with the gesture (but he hadn't been thinking at all, had he? Only feeling), seemed undone immediately. Garth recoiled at the same time she let him go in equal if not greater shame.
She had only held him tightly out of shock, reflex. He must not have done it right. He had made her uncomfortable. She must not have found him comforting at all.
He continued to get it all wrong.
"Nae just cause tae apologize fer me oon transgressions against Ye, M'laedeh..!" mumbled the frazzled Atlantean, feeling more foreign and strange than the day he had set foot upon the surface-world.
So much so that he slipped into intermittent nervous Scotts-piratese.
He cleared his throat, but couldn't clear his nerves, or summarily, the accent. "Ah cannae git oover the scalawags wit brooghtchYe sooch sooferin', aye..!" The pretty Scottish mourner felt farther away in that extra foot of distance she moved from him than his distance to the moon.
"A-Ah've ben..aloon and..confused..hairt and..in a richt fankle afore." If he could just take her mind off of things, maybe she could forgive him for clearly making her feel worse by his unwanted advance.
They weren't things he spoke about often, and maybe it was presumptuous to think he could get away with letting out such personal things after such a personal gesture had failed them both, but he spoke on anyway.
Aqualad bent on his haunches, picking up the broken cereal bowl fragments, and continued. At least down here she couldn't see his face aflame.
"Mae oon folk left mae fer bait leagues from home wen I were but a wee lad. Mae oonly breathin' parent, mae mother...didnae even try tae stop them. Sooth, she handed mae to them like worthless chaff-coral."
He finally cleaned his feet with some napkins that had fluttered to the floor as well, exhaled slowly, and finally brought up the next woman in his life he had cared the world for, and been separated from unfairly. "Win Tul--...win one ah loved dearly was murdered in deadly murky waters, ah was there. But ah cuidnae do anythin' tae help her, or we'd've both bin killed.."
The worst part was, Aquagirl had drowned in poisoned where their distance of mere centimetres made no difference; no matter how close he got, he couldn't breathe long enough to pull her out and have them both survive.
The worst part was, the two feet of distance between him and Ink right now felt exactly the same.
She could see in his black eyes that she shouldn't have let go. He recoiled, knocking over the bowl in his haste to move away, and the mush that had been inside sloshing over her feet as well. Things were going swimmingly, she had broken every promise she made to herself today and on top of that she had hurt her best friend while trying to put him first, on top of what this day reminded her of. She grabbed the napkins off the table and knelt down to wipe up the spilled lolsquid* that had sloshed over them both as Garth started to speak again. "Yea ded nothin wrong lad" she said, her words sinking into the carpet with the milk.
She heard him clear his throat, but stayed focused on the carpet as he continued to speak, noticing that he had slipped back into his Scottish sailor tongue. She paused her dabbing and looked up at him as he talked about his troubles in the past. They had both been alone. The prince knelt and hid behind his own hair as he helped her to clean. She watched him hide his face and pick up the broken bowl shards on the ground. They had both been alone.. which meant that she wasn't alone now.
She watched him as he told her his story, she could feel his sorrow and imagine only a fraction of his grief. He had lost his family and a love, in worse ways then how she had. If anyone needed a hand to hold or a shoulder to cry on it was the boy in front of her who had recounted his worst moments to her. She felt closer to him then she ever had before, they had both exposed the scars on their hearts and they were similar... maybe they could help each other heal.
She moved her weight forward so that she was on her knees and reached her hand out over the damp part between them. Without giving him a chance she gently took his hand in hers, and waited for him to look up at her. No words needed to be spoken as her eyes said it all. She was sorry, she was grateful, but most of all she was hopeful. They each had their darkest day, but now they had a trusted friend to go to with their sorrow.
For the first time a tiny but true smile crossed her lips that day. They were not alone.
The boy's own hair-curtain parted in a startled jerky movement, his chin jolting up, eyes wide at her touch.
Garth stared into the girl's eyes (mostly because he was afraid of making another mistake; he had an affinity for the deer-in-headlights effect). Together, they had mopped up the mess. He wadded up the barely dry paper towels and napkins strewn around their knees, and left them there in a pile, not wanting to leave their new embrace: the ones their eyes were having.
And then she smiled. Aqualad was finally able to breathe again. He had done..no wrong by her?
"Methinks may'aps Milady speaks the truth..."
He ventured but a few words, voice hushed, the corners of his lips turning up slowly as the weight of his believed reckless behaviour melted into happiness again.
Their silence had been comfortable and mesmerizing, but all fairy tales came to an end.
Their's seemed to be coming closer to a happily-ever than he'd first anticipated.
"...for her face no longer seems so rather doon."
He even ventured a joke in his happy daze before he realized what he was saying, giddy at her touch.
"I shan't ever wash this hand again...!"
OoC; x'DDD EWWWURGH that's what sloshed over them both!? That's what was in that cereal!? x'DDD Gross ending to an otherwise picturesque emotionfest. Nice blitzin' wiff ye, Zinnehlass. C: |

The roleplay takes place after the series end of the original Teen Titans animated show, but does not include the movie Trouble in Tokyo. Since then Robin has been on something of a recruiting spree, and many new young heroes have found themselves a home in Jump City as well as Titan Tower.
