Texting Dick Grayson

[Elenaphant]

Starfire was looking at the phone Cyborg tried to explain to her. Currently, she was in her room lying on her back, head dangling off the edge and her arms stretch forward holding it. On her stomach Silkie was curled up, making soft sounds in his sleep.

[TEXT] 7:12pm: hello is this dick grayson it is kory from school or if you prefer to know me as starfire that is fine i was wondering if you were free after school tomorrow oh and i do hope you do not mind--

Typing was taking forever! This was a most ineffective form of communication, but it was considered more socially acceptable so as to not 'interrupt' a person with a phonecall. 

[TEXT] --that I have contacted you in this manner instead of waiting but i was worried it would not give you enough notice if i waited tomorrow at school to ask [SENT 7:12pm]

The Titan let out a breath after she had sent that. Should she send another for what she had in mind, or was that pestering?

Dick was bent over some of his files, scanning for missed evidence, when his phone went off. He ignored it at first, but then it went off again. Scowling, the Boy Wonder pulled himself from his work and dug around on his desk for his phone. He had set it down somewhere, it wouldn't be in it's usual hiding spot...that would be too easy.

The boy found his phone with a triumphant noise and flipped it open. It was a text. From Starfire. He grinned at the irony and quickly responded.

[TEXT]7:15 this is dick. im free tomorrow afternoon. what did u need?[SENT 7:15]

When her phone lit up and made a noise, Kory inhaled deeply, beaming, and sat up abruptly much to the displeasure of poor slumbering Silkie. He waggled his many legs in protest but Starfire was paying attention to her phone. 

[TEXT]hello dick! i need help with my english essay. i am not doing very well in the course i was wondering if u would not mind coming home with me tomorrow? at the tower. i can show u a round if u would like we are most friendly and not scary. [SENT 7:18pm]

The faces were most fun to play with.

[TEXT] this one has a nose :^) [SENT 7:18pm]

Robin had gone back to his paperwork while he was waiting for Starfire to respond. When the phone went off again he absently reached for it and flipped it open. The look of shock that fazed across his face when he actually bothered to look at it was priceless. Starfire wanted him to visit his own home as his alter ego. Panic flooded through him. Could he manage that? Could he look his entire team in the eye and pretend he didn't know them? Could he pretend he had never been in his own home?

Maybe he could convince her otherwise.

The phone lit up a second time with another smiley and he gave a wry smile. Starfire's childlike wonder at everything was adorable.

[TEXT] 7:25 the tower? what about the library? [SENT 7:25]

Starfire had been petting the Silkie as she waited in suspense for his answer. When her phone made the cute tone that she had a message, her heart felt like it skipped a beat. It was a short reply, asking about the library. Ah, yes, well...

[TEXT] i am most ashamed to tell u that i can not be quiet at the library. :^(  i get frustrated with my incompetence. i would prefer somewhere private if possible. what about your house? if u dont want to come over i understand. again we are very nice when u get to know us. robin said it was okay to bring u <3 i made a heart. [SENT 7:30pm]

Robin groaned when his phone went off again. This would have been so much less of a hassle if he could walk down the hall and just talk to her about it, but he knew he couldn't. He grabbed for his phone without looking at it, his masked eyes still trained on the laptop computer, sifting through surveillance footage. It took him a moment to get to the text, because a flash in the surveillance footage attracted his attention.

“Got you,” he said out loud with a satisfied smirk on his face.

And then he looked at the text and frowned. Okay, so the library was out, and there was no way he was meeting Starfire at any of his safe houses or undercover locations. He frowned when she mention that he Robin had said it was okay. He didn't remember saying that -- no wait, he had. This would be an awesome moment for a face palm. He remembered okaying that she could bring a friend from school to the tower, providing he did a background check. Irony would have him doing a background check on himself.

Maybe he could do it. Maybe he could avoid the other Titans, say he was going to be gone for the entirety of tomorrow following the surveillance lead, and spend an entire day as Dick Grayson. It was a daunting idea. He'd been hiding as Robin for so long it almost felt like Dick Grayson was the mask.

With a deep breath, Robin tightened his resolve and texted her back.

[TEXT] 7:45 fine. meet you after school. we can walk to the tower together [SENT 7:45]

He was not answering. Starfire was worried she had made things awkward by asking. Did he not wish to spend time with her? It was hard to gauge his state of mind over such a form of communication. She paced around her room, back and forth,  wondering if she should just send him another text saying it was fine. It was her own stupidity and he did not need to trouble himself on her account. It was sad and frustrating to think perhaps he did not like her as much as she initially thought...

Before she could worry herself into despair, a good fifteen minutes after her own text her phone lit up. She dove for it, grabbing it and opening the text immediately. 

Fine? That was... that was good yes? Robin's use of the word had ruined it for her, but he said he was meeting her after school. He was going to come here! That was glorious!

[TEXT] oh thank you very very much :^D i shall wait for u by the school entrance if i dont see u befor then. [SENT 7:48]

Now to tell Robin! She zoomed out of her room and went straight for his door. She knew he was in there and certainly not asleep at this hour. She knocked in rapid, excited succession, but rather than wait for him to answer the door she pressed her cheek against it. "I do not wish to disturb you as you are working, but I am informing you that our visitor will indeed be over tomorrow. Do what you must, but I will be bringing him."

Tomorrow was going to be so exciting! She flew right back to her room, contemplating its cleanliness.
