Titans Portrait Series: Ink, the titan who loved monsters too much.
The light went on. At the center of a stage stood a man any person in Jump city could instantly recognize. Gordon Godfrey slowly walked down towards his audience. "Today, I, Gordon Godfrey, would like to introduce a series of reports on Jump's hottest topic." A giant screen behind him flared on. The pictures of all publicly known titans looked down upon him. "For what do we really know about our young heroes, the Teen Titans?"
He turned around, and pointing at each of the portraits in turn, enumerate, "Robin, Starfire, Cyborg, Raven, Beast Boy, Speedy, Aqualad, Ink, Blue Beetle, Rumble, Sapphire, Silverwing, Sun..." He turned back to the audience shaking his head, "Not one week passes without a new 'hero' pops up and demands asylum at the Titan tower." Gordon's fist jumped in the air. "And what do we really know about all of them? How can we trust these kids to just walk around with their dangerous powers playing crime fighters?"
He paused. "I'll tell you the answer." This time the hand slashed down. "We can't. Not before reviewing what information we have about each and every one of them." He seemed to calm down for a moment. "And this is going to be the mission of our next few sessions with you, our audience: gathering and analyzing one by one these Titans and what we know about them. To help you make a sincere and unbiased decision on the Teen Titans."
There was applause. Gordon smiled, letting his words hang in midair.
When the crowd calmed down again, he snapped his fingers. The picture of Ink grew until it covered the whole screen. "Today we will cover the red haired magical artist, Ink." He rubbed his hands in anticipation. In the background, a sheet of facts rolled over Ink's picture, listing things like her known abilities, her summons, the total cost of the damage she had directly or indirectly cost, the number of villains captured and so on. Gordon went over some of them.
"She is one of the better known titans. Mostly because it's bloody hard to miss her on her flying monsters." Gordon was now pacing back and forth. "The total bill she has footed to the city is somewhat on the low side for a hero, barely ten million." He waved his hand dismissively. "And in her stay in Jump, she has above average rates of captured criminals." He now turned his attention towards the audience again. "But it dropped to insignificance the past month. Which has led to rumors." Gordon shook his head. "Of course, as reporters, we felt obliged to dig deeper. Miss Ink has been missing for that whole period of time." His fingers clicked again, punctuating his following sentences. "No sightings, no patrols, no contact with the police: she just vanished and none of the Titans told us anything." His face was one of complete shock and anger.
"But then she came back." He paced again. "Together with her patrols, monsters and such. Fighting crime. Destroying buildings. Having her unnatural beasts roam around wildly."
"But wait: who else disappeared for one month and reappeared just recently? Who else likes monsters like they were family?" His voice rose. "Yes, folks. I am referring to the great serpentine threat Naga!" A picture of the monster was now set next to the Ink's. "Let me remind you that Miss Ink was present at his first appearance one month ago. She was identified as the main cause for his escape." His ranting just didn't stop. "And we know she just loves her monsters, whether big or small." More drama. "So where do you think our monster-loving titan went?"
"Did she visit her pal Naga? Did she invite him back to Jump city?"
"Whatever the answer is, the two disappearances and reappearances cannot be coincidence. And the citizens of Jump city should expect the truth from their heroes."
More clapping. "This is Gordon Godfrey, and you are watching GBS."
