Kimber Long stood in the corner of the ballroom. She wore a sleeveless turtleneck pale green and turquoise ball gown. Decorated with purple and pink flowers on the side of her pale green gown. She wore a flower necklace and a blue hairpiece. Seemingly rather uninterested to socialize. Turning down every dance invitation that flew her way. By men who believe and was inspired to gain her attention.

Already yawning. She started asking herself.

“Why am I here again?”

While trying to juggle her life being a Titan, a (senior) high school student and an upcoming musician. Fate though it would be funny to add some dangerous mix into her life. For the last few weeks, she had felt rather uneasy. Feeling stalked. Someone had been stalking her from school, gym, shopping trip and even outside her home.

The suspicious car and people was not hard to miss, but what scares her was that she can’t shake them off. No matter what diversion she created, like taking a different route to school and such. They were still capable of tracking her down and finding her. This had written professional works all over it.

Things started to get serious when she was almost kidnapped few times, and one happen right in front of her school. What does that tell you? They have guts, alright. Thankfully, a lot of the kidnaping was foiled. Thanks to some of her good friends like Kaie, and the Teen Titans. Good people who you can depend on and who had always had her back. It also never hurts to know. That she was capable of taking care of herself, as her alter ego, Silverwing. Besides, taking down bad guys was part of her job description.

Question? What was the kidnapping had to do with her?

Turns out. That her grandfather had been receiving threatening emails, letters, packages and all kinds of shape and sizes threatening stuff comes in, which came from the worse party of all the Russian mob. He felt uncomfortable working with them. When they started to offer a large amount of money, as an investment into one of his projects. Suspicious? Obviously! They were trying to use his company to launder their money. Oh, and it gets better. Give a condition. That he must return their ‘investment’ or ‘interest’ or whatever business term people use, in an outrageous amount. 

He did however try to turn them down nicely, but they didn’t take it too well and did the second thing natural to them. Threatened him. Threatened him if he refuses to accept their offer. They will make him see their ways in any means necessary. And she only found that out 2 days ago, and why was he telling her now? He didn’t want to worry her.

Awesome! Just awesome! Right, why was she in a masquerade party?

He was invited to a social ball. A masquerade ball. That was coincidentally held in Jump City. He invited her to come with him. Which seemingly sound like this.

‘Come with me to the party to have fun. While I can keep my two eyes on you. Because something bad is going to happen which I can't tell you...or give you the full details...’

Yup, it was obvious. He wasn’t telling her everything. He has a thing for that. Part of 'his fabulous charm'. You gotta love the old man. He is a piece of work, but bless his old soul.

One week before current events, 11:45 PM, Jay's Hotdogs

"A kidnapping, eh? Sounds pretty hardcore." Expresso took another sip of his coke, looking around to see if there wasn't anyone listening. All in all, he could only see Jay himself and a couple guys that looked like they did worse stuff on a daily basis, and all in all, none of them were within hearing range. "And the russians are in it, too... you guys are crazy. I'm in." He closed his cellphone, taking another bite of the hot dog. Well, that was a job.

Present time, 7:15 PM, Koch Mansion

The party was going strong. Well, as strong as a party full of rich fancy people could go. With Rat's Nest and the russian mob working together, it was easy to get Expresso in there. He probably wasn't the only mole in there, but he didn't care enough about that. He knew he was the only person necessary to flawlessly execute the plan. Which didn't stop him from enjoying the party, of course. He danced with a few ladies, had a few short conversations, enjoyed a bit of the food and drinks. It was surprisingly easy to trick people into believing he really belonged there, most of them cared more about themselves than anything else.

But he wasn't there just to have fun. All in all, he probably wasn't supposed to have fun, but the party would last a while and he didn't want to miss that chance. Thing is, he had a mission. After quickly gulping down a shot of espresso, he ate a canapé from a nearby table and got a glass of wine, slowly walking towards Kimber Long. Honestly, he didn't even have to try to find her. As soon as he entered the party he had recognized the girl, and then it was only a matter of keeping her within his view as he pretended to actually be a rich socialite. Now, it was time to take action.

"Good evening", he greeted the girl. It was hard to drop his casual behavior, but he had done a pretty good job at it until then. It was a formal event, after all. "I'm sorry, but I couldn't help but notice you're not wearing a mask. Is there any special reason behind that?" To be honest, he already had a guess. The masks were practically useless, since almost every single person in that party was so eager to talk about who and how rich they were. The girl probably wanted even more recognition, and he could use that to his advantage.

As Kimber pretended to tug her hair behind her ears. When she was actually rolling her eyes. Annoy that another spoil rich boy, attempted to ‘pick her up’. She could had easily brush off him by walking off. Leaving him to stand alone like a fool. Giving him big slap of humiliation with a mix teased and laugh by the crowd, was what he deserve.

Call her mean. Call whatever mean girls are called. She wasn’t in any mood to entertain anyone. It’s not like she wanted to be here in the first place. She was practically being drag here by her grandfather, who was too absentmindedly forgets to tell her. Why there so many kidnaps attempt against her this several weeks? If you tell her, he was just waiting for it to happen then he would tell.

Sigh!

Was she done? Don’t even get her started. She could write a very piss off essay. 250 words or more, very long essay. Title ‘Why didn’t want to be here?’ Honestly, she would had rather ditch the fancy masquerade party and head out to the city. Hang out with her friends, or go on patrol and punch something. What?! She has a very rough month.

What was she doing here again?

Oh right, her grandfather, who is coincidently standing at the side of the room. Watching her. Eyes lock on her like a hawk. CoughApoorsightedhawkCough He gave her a glare. A look of ‘be nice or be grounded’. Yes, even she was 18 years old. She can’t get away being grounded. Letting a soft sigh, putting on a mask. She turns to smile at him.

“Oh, I do carry one. It’s hidden behind me. Right here…” She held out pale green Venetian stick mask to the strange. Putting it across her face. A mask that was decorated with gold ribbon around its corner, to match a painted golden stick, with several small pink, blue flowers and white ribbon on one side of the mask. An exact duplicate and a match to the owner dress. Putting it aside. She turns to him to say. “I just don’t see any point of wearing a mask, even if this is a masquerade party. Not when everybody is so eager to boast about them and debate who has the biggest yachts.” A slip of a tongue. Covering her mouth with one hand. She turns to him to apologies. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t had say that. That was rather rude of me…” Since he could probably one of those people boasting about themselves and arguing who has the biggest yachts.

Of course, she did have a mask. It wouldn't make much sense to go to a ball like that without one. Expresso read that as a confirmation to his suspicions, she just wanted to be in evidence even more. "Nice mask." He had approached the girl meaning business, and he didn't think he'd have too much trouble with it. What he did find out with her answer, however, was something else entirely: He would apparently get to have a pleasant conversation. Not that any of his other conversations in that masquerade hadn't been pleasant, but at least this one wouldn't be completely based on lies. As soon as she mentioned the yachts, a grin showed up on his face.

"No, no, it's alright. I was thinking the same thing, to be honest. These people kill the whole point of the masks." He said, as soon as she finished apologizing. It was good to know there was someone there with common sense. "By the way, my yacht is this big." He added a light joke, with a smile on his face and stretching out his arms, like a little kid trying to talk about the biggest thing they can imagine, or a fisherman trying to explain the size of the fish he caught. After a quick laugh, he brought his arms back close to his body, taking another sip of his wine. He was about to continue talking, when his attention was caught by a new song being played. He couldn't lose this chance... honestly, more because he liked dancing than because of the mission itself. Either way, he left his wine glass on a nearby table, taking a short bow and holding out a hand to Kimber. "I'm sure you've heard this many times already, but I'll take my chances. May I have this dance? This song is just... delightful."

"By the way, my yacht is this big."

Kimber Long couldn't help but to bust out laughing. Catching the attention of the people around them. She then tries to control herself and on it, the best she could. It was a rare thing for her to behave that way, as Kimber Long and especially in such a formal event. Even as rare to find someone who has the same ideal as her, and who could make her laugh.

Watching him held out his hand to her, in a gentlemen matter. She hesitated for a moment, when he asked if he could dance with her. But something in his eyes, behind the mask, that insisted that she should take the chance with him.

"I'm charmed..." She took his hand and follow him down the dance floor.

Receiving a or two (or probably even more) dirty looks, from the other suitors who had tried so hard and fail to have their way with her. It doesn't make it any better for them (the suitors), especially when the pair started to dance to the Tango. A dance that widely associated with romance. As they dance, she couldn't help admired what a good dancer he was. Mostly grateful, he wasn't stepping on her toes. The whole ballroom was in an agreement with her, when they became the center of the attention on the dance floor. 

"Are you new in town?" She started to get a conversation rolling. "Mr...." Wondering what's the mysterious man name would be. "Unless, you prefer to be known Mr. Anonymous" She joked

She laughed. And when she laughed, he also did. It was the first genuine laugh Expresso had heard that night, and if he wasn't already in high spirits before then, now he definitely was. It was always a good feeling to make other people laugh. And so was dancing... all in all, he couldn't believe he was actually getting paid to be there and do that. Ok, he actually could, but it was still interesting.

As they danced through the room, people gradually turned their gazes towards the duo. In part because it was the so wanted Kimber Long, in part because she was dancing with a complete stranger, and in part because they were dancing SO WELL. Sure, they weren't pros, but they were able to put up a pretty good show. Not that they even cared about it, of course... well, Expresso at least was dancing only for himself. And for Kimber, of course, but the ballroom could be empty otherwise that he wouldn't mind.

While they danced, the girl started talking, asking him a question. He spun her around once, then pulling her back close and continuing to dance. "Pedro Oliveira. Came from Portugal a couple weeks ago with my parents... unfortunately they couldn't be here, but they insisted I came." He smiled at her, continuing to dance. "What about you, miss...?"

Kimber Long lets out a gasp from her, when he pulled close to him. Probably he hasn't noticed how close their face was. How close their lips almost brush with one another? That she swear she could see the different color of shades of green in his eyes. Not that she minds, it gave a chance to take a better look on how cute he was.

Hmm...not to mention medium built body. Kimber likes.

"From Portugal huh? It's lovely this time of the year..." She tries to distract herself from the smexy thoughts. And when he asked her name. "Call me Kimber, Kimber Long." She then moves to close and whisper to him "Or Kimby if you...." She smirks as she pulls away "As my good friends calls me...."

Kimber gasped when Khaldi pulled her close, and he did nothing but smile as he pretended not to notice. Everything was going extremely well. He thought for a moment about whether he should have added "social awesomeness" to his list of superpowers, but decided to think about that later. Better to focus on the mission... well, on Kimber for now. "Yeah, it's a pretty nice place. This country is also proving to be incredibly lovely, though." He answered her comment about Portugal, adding a wink.

Then she suddenly moved her face closer to his, whispering a nickname before pulling away, smirking. "Pretty name." He spun her again, ending the spin with a "drop"(example), moving his face close to hers. "Fits you perfectly, Kimby", he added, grinning.

And after a short while, the song was over, and so was the dance. Still holding her hand, Khaldi took a slight bow, "Thank you for the dance, hope you enjoyed it as much as I did." Just as he finished that sentence, he kissed her hand, then let it go. "Say, I'll go get a bit of fresh air at the balcony. Would you care to accompany me?" He held out his hand in case she wanted to take it again.

Pedro certainly knew how to treat a lady right. Will that dip (dance move)? He took her breath away and her heart. Sweeping her off her feet. Winning her hearts. He won her over even more when he whispers in sexy voice back...into her ears. It took almost every effort for her to control her composure. Not giggling like a school girl.

Literally.

When the song came to an end, she felt a little disappointed and wished it hadn't ended so soon. She was even more upset when he let go of her hand. Reality slapped across her face and reminded her.

'Like duh, Kimber.'

What was she expecting? Pedro to hold her hand through the night and probably forever after?

Sigh.

But her heart suddenly flutters once more when he invited to join him at the balcony. Her heads say no, but her heart says...

"I would love to..." Taking his hands again, and smile.

Expresso, of course, noticed her disappointment when he let go of her hand, and that made it even better when he offered her his hand again, and she gladly accepted. Mission accomplished, the rest would be easy. Well... sort of. The toughest part was yet to come, but that would only come later, so no use worrying about it now. For the moment, the best possible option would be to enjoy the calm while it lasted. He took her hand, taking her to the balcony and picking up two glasses of wine along the way. Those would be the clean ones... he'd "customize" the next one. Never a good idea to spike the first drink, after all. He handed one of the glasses to Kimber, keeping the other.

"You know... I'm really glad I met you. I mean, this party is amazing and I mean no disrespect to anyone in here, but... well, you made my night a lot better."

He moved his face slightly closer to hers, his eyes locked at hers. Rather than a kiss or anything of the sort, however, his mouth broke into a mischievous smile as he raised his glass, proposing a toast.

"To yachts?"

Kimber Long gladly took his hand, and GLADLY accompany him for a private quiet moment in the balcony. What a perfect place to be alone, and a perfect setting for romance! Holding such a spectacular view of Star City in the night. Lighten by the resident night life.

She turns to see Pedro had two champagne glasses in his hand. Returning a smile as she took one glass off his hand, as he offers to her. She was old enough to drink, and had enough experience one. As she was often present and accustom to the party. Involve mingling with guests and drinking, such as one like this.
Her lips curl when Pedro attempted to flirt with her, with his adorable pick up line.

“Do you say that to all the girls, or just the cute ones?”

She counter attack his flirt. But she was not prepared when he moves. So close to her face, in an attempt to whisper to her. Catching her off guard as she let out a gasp and a blush. She wonders was he attempting to kiss her. Or was he just teasing her, a part of his of games of seduction.

As they raise their glasses and cheers to the … yachts. She couldn’t help to chuckle in between after taking a sip of her drink.

“Tell me Pedro. Is the Pedro Oliveira seeing anyone special?” She asked.

The dying question she had wanted ask all night.

Good food, good drinks, good music, and good company. That truly was turning out to be a remarkable night, and the crazy part hadn't even started! That would truly be a night to remember, and he hadn't even been paid yet.

"To all the girls that make my night a lot better, I guess. Though I do happen to find most of them cute." He giggled a bit, then proposed a toast. The girl laughed, and both of them drank. He took a look at her glass... half empty. After a short while, Kimber shot him THE question. The boy grinned. "Well, I guess there is a certain girl that is as special as they come", he answered smirking before continuing, "and yes, he can see her pretty clearly right now... even though she's wearing a mask." The smirk turned into a bright smile, and he slowly approached her, his eyes fixed on hers. If her reaction was positive, he'd place his lips in hers and proceed with a long, tender kiss.

And after the kiss, he regained his cool. No, it would be more accurate that before, during and after the kiss, he maintained his cool. Either way, he smiled at Kimber, taking her wine glass. "Hold on, I'll go get more wine. Wait here." And after one last smile, he walked back into the room.

Kimber almost rolls her eyes in annoyance. Typical. She thought. It's always the good one taken. She didn't realize he was talking about her. Until, she turns to see his face. So close to hers. Eyes fixed to one another. It felt like time stopped when he leans in to kiss her. She was at first shock and stun. Soon, she finds herself leaning to kiss him. Sway away by the moment and by the kiss.

Reality returns to her. Returning from heaven to earth. When he rings her, taking her wine glass from her hand and suggested they refill them. She just nodded without a word. Clearly, still trying to get her head and feet back to the ground, from heaven.

Taking several minutes to regain her composure and knock some sense into herself. She hasn't noticed that her power started to act up, due the kiss. Her silver bracelet morph and turns into a heart shape. Appealing to its mistress emotional state. Panic. She quickly runs around. Trying to change it (barcelet) back to normal before Pedro or anyone see it.
