"Now... I don't exactly do much touring of Jump City's landmarks, but I'm pretty sure that hasn't ever been here before... Interesting," Cheshire said to herself as she stood dumbfounded on the roof of a Svenson's Deli. Several blocks ahead of her was a 50-foot tall Victorian-style clock tower in the very dead center of Jump City. Down below on the streets, civilians of the city also looked on in bewilderment at this strange building that had taken up the space formerly occupied by the central park, causing a nightmare for the local enforcement. Spying from up above, it seemed the local police force had been making attempts to communicate to the inhabitants of this tower in an attempt to get them to land, but they were either being ignored or couldn't be heard as the tower remained in the middle of town undaunted. The lack of a ground level entrance certainly was not helping.
Jade often didn't care for matters like strange things showing up out of nowhere. Things are things. However, what bothered Cheshire about this was it was a building which meant people were probably inside. ECCENTRIC people given you'd have to be rather eccentric to use a construct like that thing; and unfortunately it nearly all cases, eccentric people suddenly showing up meant superheroes or even worse, supervillains. To be entirely honest, villains really did bother Jade more than heroes. She only tended to side with them more because heroes had that annoying, 'throw them in jail until they break out' policy instead of just eradicating the problem which kind of made the point of teaming up with them null. She always betrayed her teams though, so she supposed the heroes were lucky in that regard.
Jade began to ponder how she was going to get in the tower and figure out the deal was with these rather intrusive visitors to Jump City. There really seemed to be no obvious entrances to the thing. Well, there were two panels on an elevated platform near the bottom, but they looked sealed by some sort of device. She'd go there if she had to, but this place had to have an unlocked upper entrance of some kind. As she looked it over, she caught her opening. Much like other Victorian clock towers, there was door on the six of the clock face for repair work. It would be tough, but by no means impossible.
Cheshire hopped rooftops at her blazing speed until she was on the highest adjacent building to the tower. About halfway up. Not a bad boost. She also noticed the peculiar shape of the tower from here. The very top of it was... very long and extended out beyond the shaft of it, which... didn't seem to make any architectural sense. It reminded her of another building, but she couldn't place which one off the top of her head. What was great about Victorian building styles was there were footholds EVERYWHERE on these things. It's really no wonder the League of Assassins managed to murder so many people during that period, you could practically walk on walls if you were strong.
With an astounding leap, Cheshire mounted the tower and began the ascent upwards. While it was easy to find footholds, anyone who told you vertical ascent was easy is an outright liar. By the time she had reached the upper level of the clock, Jade was exhausted. She took the opportunity of a large ledge near the top to take a rest for a little while. As she was sitting there, she decided to dwell on the odd things she noticed now up close with the tower. It was definitely Victorian-styled but there were modifications that reflected more recent technological discoveries. She had thought for a second that this was probably the doing of Mad Mod for a little given his little love affair with Big Ben, but she soon realized that despite the modern additions, all the mechanical and additions were formed with Victorian methods. Like it was made in some modern world that never discovered diesel and electricity.
Finding herself, satisfactorily rested, Cheshire turned her sights onto the clockface. She gave a look at the second hand that was regularly spanning the face and deemed it rigid enough for her to catch a ride on. As it passed by her side, she took her chance and hopped onto the giant rod and quickly pulled herself into a comfortably position and rode the hand to the six of the clock where a small ledge was waiting. Casually stepping off, she proceeded to open the door to six on the clock like it was the front door.
As she stepped inside, she was rather surprised to see the inner contents. Apart from the mechanism to run each side of the clock face, there was... a living space in the tower. There was a large collection of gaudy old looking sofas facing towards a white panel on the wall that seemed to be for projecting things onto from the hand-powered projector at the other side of the room. Aside from the ancient entertainment system, there seemed to be various Victorian living things like mirrors, old cabinets, and discarded clothing all over the place. "Did I say eccentric? I think I meant to say insane," Cheshire said to herself as she picked up a top hat with brass goggles wrapped around the brim and looked it over. It seemed new, but with the quality of the old days. How bizarre.
"Freeze imposter," a voice came from behind Cheshire.
"Not really sure why imposter seems to be the operative word here, but I can certainly oblige the request," Cheshire responded, putting her hands up as she felt three prongs touch her back. After a pause, she spun in motion, grabbing her assailants wrist and attempting to slash their face only to meet her blades with identical blades also trying to slash her face. She looked at her assailant and felt her heart stop for a second. She was looking at herself with a slightly different mask and a red floral style kimono as opposed to her green style. "Of all the things I was expecting here, this was not one of them, I'm going to be entirely honest here."
"Who exactly are you? Clayface? That better not be you playing tricks Duela," her doppelganger asked angrily.
"I'm Cheshire Cat. I'm rather curious who you are,"
"Cheshire... why do you know that name? I haven't gone by that in years. Not since I joined the Titans and changed my hero name to Lynx,"
"Titans? If you are from the future, I'm afraid I will have to put you out of your misery if you did something as stupid as join the Titans,"
"Future? What in the world are you babbling about?"
"I suggest taking a look outside. I promise I won't play dirty,"
There was a pause before the other Cheshire relinquished her weapon. "I'm trusting you. Don't make me regret it," she warned.
"Right back at you," Cheshire responded, relinquishing her own weapon. Keeping one eye on Cheshire, the other Cheshire looked out the mechanic door Cheshire had come in from.
"Oh Queens of the Nile... We are not in Gear City anymore," she said with a tone of despair.
"Welcome to Jump City. Year 2013 going on 2014," Cheshire welcomed sarcastically.
"I'm well aware what year it is thank you," the double chastised as she looked on in wonder. "Where is Jump City? Somewhere in Europe? France perhaps? Only the french would pollute the air like this."
"California coast," Cheshire corrected.
"Very funny," Lynx sighed only to look at Cheshire and realize her intention. "Oh no... You're serious. That can only mean... we're in an entirely different dimension."
"Bingo."
