Cat landed in a crouch her cloak fluttered behind her. The park for the most part was deserted. The thief stood up and stretched her back, after having just spent two hours stuffed in a safe and unable find a spot open enough to come out of. Fortunately her safe had been moved on a truck and able to get out when they hit the road hence the part. It was thankfully not for nothing, she had gotten what she had went for.
Anne pulled off the mortified gas mask shaking out her hair. She paused rubbing her thumbs across the blue glass eyes. Oh the things these had seen, the battles, scars, jobs both good and bad. It was strange to think about all things she had done in her short life. Her life of crime had started when she fourteen, and some how she wasn't dead and was standing the middle Jump City with a muti-million dollar magic artifact in her person storage dimension three years later.
The teleporter pulled back on the mask yawned a moment before flopping down the grass to take a break and look up at the big open sky. Being stuck in a cramped safe not being able escape made one think about things a moment; and Cat wanted to stretch out a bit. It wasn't like she had anywhere to be.
The sound of footsteps against pavement filled the still night air of the park. The shadows dancing in the dim light of the moon and the flickering light of the lamps that lined the many walkways of the park. The end of the path didn't exactly matter to one of the people running on the pavement as long as it led away from the annoying little uniformed law officer that followed close behind. The more the teen ran, the more she felt like laughing at the situation. With a broad grin plastered on her face, Aurora bolted off the dimly lit path and into the shadows of the park, trying to lose the officer. The sound of laughter breaking the silence of the night as she ran. Getting chased by an officer sure wasn't fun but it was more exciting than the dark haired teen had experienced in a long time.
Slipping behind a tree, Aurora fell silent and kept watch as the officer ran right past where she was and off into the park. Her smile faded slightly as she leaned against the tree. Running from cops was exhausting but it happened almost everytime they recognized her. Course they would. She was after all considered 'missing' and most cops knew to look for missing kids. It was still quite funny to her that a grown up couldn't catch her. Its not like she had super speed or anything. She was just a normal kid, right? A normal kid who'd run away from home in search of someone she'd never met. Now that's a lovely story if anyone stopped and asked her about why she was here when her home was kinda in another state.
She shook her head and pulled the hood of her sweatshirt up to at least somewhat hide the fact she was mildly suspicious. Sticking her hands in her pockets, Aurora stepped back out into the faint light and continued the semi-aimless wandering. This time though, her only goal being to not run into another cop for the night. It was bad enough she had her own stuff to deal with. Lost in her own thoughts, she didn't really notice the stranger in the random gas mask that was flopped on the ground. Normally, she'd have harassed the poor person but right this second she just didn't have the energy. Maybe in about two minutes if they were still there she'd go bother them.
Catastor yawned again sitting up. She has dozed off for a few minutes till the cold penetrated her costume, and woke her up again. Jump in the winter was nicer than most area's but it wasn't nice enough to take a nap at night in the middle of the park. Cat took her nap as a sign to head back to the Warren, and teleporting while sleepy was a bad idea...to the subway! (again)
The teloporter paused a moment blinking staring at the teenage girl in front of her. "Can I help you?" Well Cat wasn't the only girl to ended up in the park in the middle of the night, it was still far from a normal thing.
Her musing was cut off when man dressed in a police uniform stepped into the clearing. He looked at her then at the girl. He moved to go after the other girl. Cat sighed blinking out and appearing behind him. An elbow to the neck and he was out like a light. He made a hard thump on the ground. Cat turned to the girl crossing her arms, raising a hidden eyebrow at the girl. "It's generally advisable not to get caught, doing whatever it is you did. Speaking of what did you do? Because it certainly wasn't me he followed." Followed by the police and in the park in the middle of the night, there was certainly a story here. Cat liked stories.
Aurora watched in awe as Cat took care of the police officer easily. It wasn't everyday this teen saw people actually able to beat a cop. Where she was from, things like that just didn't happen. Whether it was Cat's attire, her skills at disposing of cop like people, or the question she posed that shocked Aurora was a mystery but one thing was certain: This person was either a hero/vigilante or a villain. Random teenage logic says no one dresses like that but then again Aurora wasn't one to really talk. Looking thoughtful for the briefest of moments, she pondered how exactly to answer the question. If she was honest, this random stranger who had K.O'd the cop would probably report her but on the other hand if she lied, she'd be found out. Nothing gives away a liar faster than someone who has a hard time keeping their mouth shut.
After a momentary silence, Aurora looked back at the cop on the ground and tried to change the subject. "What did you do to the guy? That was awesome!" Her eyes flickered back to Cat, clearly amused by what had happened but also a tad curious. Though what exactly she was curious about was answered by the next bit of nonsense she said. With the faintest hint of a grin, Aurora spoke again this time looking for the possibility of something that would help her on her own personal little quest. "Can you show me how to so that?" The question came complete with an echo of a puppy dog pout.
Did it make her look childish? But of course. Then again, no one really questioned someone who seemed so innocent. Or maybe they didn't question because this one was just plain stupid. Who knew?
Cat rolled her eyes at the blatant question dodging but humored the girl. "What it look like I did? I Knocked him out. And I could teach you, but I doubted it be as effective for you. Besides why should I you still haven't told be why you're here." The girl didn't seem to tell her anything, likely big trouble, there was a whole list of possibilities, far too many to try and guess.
Cat turned her gaze to the radio on the copper's shoulder , the red light was going on and off. Awe hell. They were likely looking for them, him. "Tell me what the person on the radio is saying. Quickly now, we may have company on the way." She cracked her fingers and started to let her mind go, making calculations, they were going to have to move this party somewhere else if more police were on the way. Well that wasn't too hard, well they would need to move anyway. Mr. Donuts was going wake up sooner or later, and she didn't want to be accused of kidnapping.
"Forget it, we need to move, he going to wake up soon anyway. Hold your nose and try to pop your ears." Cat closed her eyes and focused on herself and her new 'friend'. A half second later the pair were at the other end of the park, and everyone had their hands and feet. Cat turned her gaze back to girl grinning; giving her an I'm waiting look.
Though Aurora was barely offended by Cat's remark about it 'not being as effective for her' any word of protest was completely silenced when the radio on the policeman's shoulder started flashing bright red. From all the random tv shows, even someone as oblivious as she was could tell that was a bad thing. She barely registered Cat's words telling her to relay the message that was going over the radio. Instead her mind was more focused on what the heck to do.
The moment Cat spoke again, Aurora glanced back at her slightly confused. She knew the cop couldn't stay knocked out forever but it was the little bit of information that wasn't being spoken that had the teen worried. "Wha-?" The sentence had barely been started when they ended up on the other side of the park in what seemed like a split second. With a wicked headache and her ears ringing, Aurora blinked a few times before looking back to her grinning acquaintance. The look the girl was giving her clearly wanted an explanation as to why there were cops somewhat after her. Matching Cat's grin with her own and giving her a slightly sheepish look, Aurora replied while still avoiding exactly what Cat wanted to hear. "That was epic! How do you do that? Are you some kinda superhero or something? Sorry about what happened...it's not exactly anything worth a really cool rescue like that." As she spoke her tone faded from excited to awestruck to just a little depressed at the end, she even laughed a little despite how bad things looked.
Cat shook her head as she watched the other teenage right herself. Her eyebrow raised when she started going about how cool it was and asked if she was a hero or something. Heroes bah. "It's fine it's not like we were being chased down by heat seeking drones. Cops are easy, those hard. Second, if someone is running from the cops that generally that puts them on my side of the law. Third I'm not a hero never will be. Heroes are overrated and have no sense of the world around them. Besides who says that the heroes always right and the villains are always wrong."
Cat frowned. She hadn't meant to go on a tirade, but damn it she hated Heroes. Most of them were more crooked then the criminals and had no moral code. Cat spat and unclenched her fists. "Sorry I don't like heroes. So what's your name, if you won't give me a story. I'm Catastor, Cat for short."
Aurora fell silent as Cat went off on a tangent and started ranting. So awesome superhero buddy was off the list of 'who the heck is this kid' but still, to her the random teleporter was still epic regardless of which side of the law she was on. Listening rather intently to the rant about crooked superheroes made Aurora think about things carefully. Sure heroes were the idols of a lot of people but it was true that sometimes it was the villains who were doing what they could for justified reasons. Not all people were that bad.
It took a moment for Aurora to refocus on Catastor and notice that the tirade had just ended. She watched the teleporter carefully, especially since it was clear that a nerve had been struck when the term 'hero' had been brought up. The next few words that were spoken seemed a little odd after the random rant. An apology followed by an introduction. For a second, the fact Cat had apologized stunned her. There wasn't exactly a reason to apologize. Everyone had their point of view on different matters. "Don't apologize. Everyone has to have their own opinions about things, right? Anyway...thanks for the save Cat." As she spoke, she brushed her bangs out of her light violet silver eyes and grinned. Most people wouldn't exactly have helped her run away from a cop but this time she was lucky. "I'm Aurora but people just call me Aura half the time." With introductions done, things started feeling awkward. Its not like there was anything to really talk about...
"Well people don't tend to take heroes being dissed very well. Nice to finally get something out of you Aura. Saves aren't that hard with my power. So, I assume you're not a Cape, and you know my opinion of heroes. Why don't you tell me what you think of heroes? We have some time to kill while the heat dies down, since you clearly won't tell me why you were being chased." Cat yawned and stretched her back before looking at Aura. The girl was interesting. Most people got really mad when she said her opinion, but she seemed a bit more accepting. It was nice to have someone to talk to about this. Mr. Nos didn't know or really care; only that she worked for him.
"So, is there anywhere, you want to hang out? I can bring you back here later. It's getting cold out, and I wouldn't mind something to drink." Could think off three coffee shops and tea house in her range and several convent alleyways she could drop them in. Ugg she need to get out of costume and wash it. She could feel it sticking to her skin. Ick.
Aurora considered the words of the "i'm not a hero" Catastor and thought about the question that had been posed. Answering it was a different matter. The words had to be picked with great care. Still thinking about how to answer the question and hearing Cat yawn, Aurora raised her gaze to watch the not so heroic acquaintance of hers. She stuck her hands in the pockets of her hoodie and let her gaze slip away from Cat. "Wherever you feel like going is fine with me and as far as heroes go, I don't have an opinion on them. Can't really make one when I haven't met one." Though her reply sounded just a bit stupid, it made perfect sense if you actually knew what she meant.
Don't judge a book by its cover and all that...
For a split second she considered telling Cat the really boring reason the cop had been after her. It was something to talk about but she'd rather have that little bit of awkward silence to think about the one question that was bothering her ever since Cat had made her opinion on heroes known. If a villain did what they did for their family, were they really all that bad? Or were the heroes the bad ones for stopping them from helping the people they care about? So many situations and so many possibilities. But right now the important thing was finding a place where both of them could at least relax for a bit.
"Well, then off we...go!" Cat grinned crabbing the girls arm and teleported them to an alley way near down town. Cat paused a moment before shrugging, she pulled of her mask and shook out her hair. She paused a moment pulling out a spare sweat shirt. She turned around and pulled off her sticky one before pulling on the large baggy hoodie. If Aura had wanted to she could have seen the large full back tattoo of Hermes' staff and a Lyre. Cat stored her shirt and turned to Aura.
"Sorry, need to change, it smelled really bad. There is shop just up the street, they have amazing hot chocolate. So, where are you from. Can I get that at least, come on it's really frustrating to try and carry on a conversion when everything is off limits." Anne turned, taking a seat inside a small warm coffee shop, out of the way of the window. If police were still looking for Aura then best that she wasn't seen. Cat had the other girl sit with her back to the window before ordering something to drink for them.
In the split second that Cat had grabbed her arm, a barely finished word of protest escaped her before they disappeared and reappeared in a nearby alley. They had just reappeared when Aura now felt sick. Teleporting. Definitely not something she wanted to do ever again. Even while Cat took her mask off and switched sweat shirts, did Aura really pay attention? Nope. Not one bit. She was a tad busy trying to find a way to shake off the migraine that she had been afflicted with thanks to teleporting. Her first reaction, was that it was probably an allergic reaction to the mystic art of teleportation but then again nothing has proven that it was even possible to be allergic to that.
Aura glanced at Cat when she turned around. For a moment, a look of puzzlement flickered across her features when she was spoken to before it dawned on her that her person in front of her was the same person who'd just teleported her. Again. She followed Cat's lead when they went to the little coffee shop, feeling a little more comfortable in a place she was at least somewhat familiar with. Places like this had been one of her favorite places to visit back home. Thinking back to Cat's question, she offered her acquaintance a grin before answering. "I'm from New York but I've been to all kinds of places and you know...not everything is off limits. It just depends on how you ask."
Cat nodded, though she had a slight pout on her face when she said she had to ask the rough question. Word games. "Well then, Aura are you and esper or a magician?" Cat didn't like word games, it was about as much fun as breaking into a safe, she just hoped this had more reward than some safes she had cracked. She more used to teleporting things out or brute forcing them. "I'm also curious where do you align yourself?"
Now that the game of twenty questions had begun, Aura considered her first two thoughtfully. The term Esper was new to her so she didn't exactly understand the meaning of it but Magician was obvious, even to those who had never heard the word before. Someone who practices magic. Aura certainly wasn't one of those people so she assumed she would be the former. An esper, whatever that was. As for alignment...no one and nothing. A thoughtful look touched her features as she choose her words with the utmost care. "I guess I'd have to say esper." Her tone was careful but even, almost as if she was evaluating the situation in its entirety. With a half smile that matched her previous tone, she folded her hands and added to her response. And neutral. Mind answering your own questions for me? Or do I have to ask?"
Anne sipped her hot chocolate thinking carefully. Aura was good with her words; unfortunately, Cat could see better than most and catch little tells. She was very good and Anne liked that. "Esper through and through. Magic and I don't mix. According to most people I'm on the wrong side, but personally I like to think I'm in that grey area that people like to pretend doesn't exist. I'm more dark grey and black than white, but then white is stupid."
Anne was careful so that nothing she said could be incriminating. It would raise some flags, but nothing they could prove. She did a lot of good that Heroes would frown on. She had removed several magical artifacts that could end up causing trouble later and prevent them from even starting, but it was theft even it had good cause. Though she did steel that stuff for a job, but then she did say she strayed into the black too. "Where all have you been?"

The roleplay takes place after the series end of the original Teen Titans animated show, but does not include the movie Trouble in Tokyo. Since then Robin has been on something of a recruiting spree, and many new young heroes have found themselves a home in Jump City as well as Titan Tower.
