She should have known something was up with that job when Carl didn’t show up. Charlie though for a moment that maybe he was in on the whole thing but Carl didn’t seem like the type to snitch. But she would have to think about that later since when she glanced over her shoulder she noticed a man was tailing her. From the two second look Charlie knew he wasn't there to help her get away, the suit he wore was way too flashy and looked pretty expensive for him to have been a thief like her. A thief would have worn something a little more normal or discreet like the blue jeans and black sweater Charlie was currently wearing. The black sweater was sort of her trademark yet the entire outfit was simple and normal plus they were very easy to run in.
Which is what she did when her tail got a little too close for comfort. Charlie had been in Jump City for a few months now and had managed to learn some excellent escape routes via the alley ways. It helped that when things got too hairy she could jump or fly away but right now Charlie wanted to have a little fun. She ran about half her normal speed and glanced back every so often to make sure Mr. Flashy-pants was still behind her. When she saw that he was, a grin spread across her face and she pulled up the black aviator goggles that were hanging around her neck. Now she wasn’t Charlie anymore but a super thief by the name of Black Comet. Of course her name wasn’t exactly famous yet, but she was known by a few circles and the whispers of her successes were spreading. Maybe she would even get on the Titan’s radar soon.
After turning a corner Comet glanced back to see that Flashy-Pants wasn’t where he should be. She slowed a bit and turned to see him finally come around the corner panting. “Oh is Mr. Flashy-Pants a little tuckered out?” Her voice said in a mocking tone. “Your golden boxers are weighing you down aren’t they?” Comet turned to walk away but came face to face with a slightly larger man wearing an almost identical suit. “Uh… let me guess. You’re his brother Mr. Snazzy-Pants?” She said with a nervous laugh and took a few steps back. He smiled at her and followed her, Comet was now in a ‘pickle’ as a baseball fan would point out.
“Look, Flashy. Snazzy. Can’t we all just be civil about this, just let me by before either of you rip your nice suits,” her face lit up in a friendly grin. Neither of the men seemed to notice her feet hovering above the ground. Yet she noticed the look the two shared and took the split second chance she was given. With a simple jump she was ten feet off the ground and waving at the stunned duo before flying off in the direction of the park.
She noticed that they were trying to follow her but Comet flew too fast, yet it was her lack of focus that caused her to miss the flock of birds in her flight path. With a shriek of surprise she was hurtling to the ground trying to bat away a pigeon that got caught in her hair. One would think that having crashed quite a few times she would be use to the ground, yet it hurt just the same when she landed hard in the grass behind a few trees.
“Ow…”
