A student sat in the school library rubbed hear temples moaning setting her book down. She looked at her phone. She deleted several text messages and turned off the light. She still had a few hours before the library closed, but it was a Friday and she had the place practically all to herself. Anne sighed and tried to force on her text book again. It's been a few weeks since her botched robbery and since she saw...no she had done such a good job of not thinking about...Dang she had done it again.
Anne sighed and held her head in her hands after closing the book it was no use now. So far she had manged to avoid Alphonse at school and everywhere else. She had even switched where she studied just to avoid him. After the first week and not having the Titans breakdown her front door or being called out class to be escorted a way. Anne allowed herself to relax a little bit.
It had been so hard, they had the same math and science classes and twice she had to talk her way into switching lab partners with someone. Her partners sucked but the extra work was worth it. She was at the end of her third week of avoiding him and thankfully it was the weekend so she could hide at home for a few days and try to work relax and sleep. Sleep came hard and she kept waking up from nightmares or paranoia. Presently she looked as bad as she felt, horrible.
The small girl sighed and packed up her bags to leave.
It had been a few weeks since the robbery, and Alphonse Carey worried every day, every hour, and every minute that Anne would pick up and leave. There was no one in the world that he would rather see and talk to, but she was avoiding him. He knew that from the fact he'd sent a text every day to her, and she never responded. It was a horrible feeling to be alienated... Ge would confront her about it, no matter what.
There was one place Anne couldn't hide: The Library. It was Alphy's domain. He lives and breaths books. Sneaking up behind her was easy, and grabbing one of her books was just as easy. Putting it in the bag while talking to her was the hard part, "Anne, can we talk over dinner? It's important. I am not doing anything I haven't done anything, and I'm sorry."
"Leave me alone, Carey. I haven't done anything." She picked stuffed the rest of her stuff in her back back and zipped it up. She pushed back keeping her head down, she didn't want to read his lips. She just wanted to get away. Summer was a few weeks away then she could leave. Seventeen more days, she kept the chant in her head, it kept her going. "Don't care, your stuff is your stuff. It's none of my business what you do in your free time."
She didn't know why she said that, she just wanted to hurt him and for him to leave her alone. The whole mess with doomsday and everything else wasn't helping her migraine. Her grandfather had warned her that mental powers caused a lot of strain especially dealing with stress. Anne headed toward the door, she'd have to find another place to study now.
If there is one thing that Alphy knew Anne would do, it was trying to ignore him. Any other day of the week, he wouldn't be able to use his illusions. There was no way he would carry his psychic amplifier on him. He kept his costume in his locker, so when he decided to confront her he grabbed the amplifier. His illusions required it. Time wasn't on his side, and he needed to fix this before the summer came around. How was he supposed to take her to the carnival, movies, and spend time with her if she was gone? Either way, his hand went down to his pants pocket, and he thumbed the amplifier/broach.
"No, I'm not going to leave you alone. You haven't done anything, but I want to talk to you..." Alphy projected the sound into her mind and followed her to the door, still not giving up. He was never going to report his friend for her nightly activities, but if she hurt someone he would have to. She was good, and he knew it. It seemed that there was nothing he could say or do to stop her, so he said exactly what was on his mind, "God damn it Anne I'm asking you on a date. I KNOW what you do and I am asking you despite that. You've never hurt anyone, and I noticed you aren't using your gifts as often..." He walked around in front of her and held his hand out. After the robbery, he realized Anne didn't just teleport away. That made him worry, so he asked, "What's wrong Anne? Are you sick?"
Anne stumbled hearing his voice in hear head again. She twisted around hit him in the shoulder panicking, before glaring at Alphonse. "Stay of my head Carey, stay of my life." She froze processing what he had put in her head. He want to...no. No he had to be lying. She settled on that he was just trying to get her to talk for some reason before moving onto the question, making her harden up again. "Its personal and none of your concern, so back off."
Gifts, she snorted, if he had said that a several weeks ago, sure; but now it felt like a curse. Anne sidestepped her friend, still hurting. She didn't want to talk about it, she just wanted to bury it and not think about it. She had taken the job that night as a way to get back to normal. Since the doomsday thing she had felt like she had been in foggy soup and it was supposed to clear her head. Instead she felt even worse. Now she knew that she had saved his life only added to the mess. She could save him, but not her family. Anne felt sick again, she a betrayer.
As Anne stood there, talking, Alphy gently grabbed her hand. He made sure she was reading his lips and decided not to project the sound as he repeated, "It is personal, Anne. It is my concern since I care about you...I would even say love you. Do you want to go out on a date? I do." Looking down, he knew why she wanted him to hurt. Besides being a hero while Anne was a villain, the events that took place on the day Doomsday came solidified hostility between Penumbra and Cat.
But this was Anne and Alphy, not Cat and Penumbra. Suddenly, Alphy was overcome with emotions. Guilt, hatred, anger, and concern forced him to hug Anne. Why was it always complicated?
Anne struggled against him when he hugged her. She felt like she was holding up a crumbling wall that was holding back all her emotions. No he couldn't love her. She hated him. He was a reminder of her failure. She felt tears forming in the corner of her eyes. Anne could feel them seeping into his shirt as she half clung and pulled away from him. The tiny telepoter could feel the dam on her emotions coming undone. This had to end before she unraveled. "I hate you. You don't love me. You're just saying that because I saved your life."
She had closed her eyes not wanting to see what he say. She was sure that would make him stay away. He would get mad and frustrated and tell at her then never both her again. Then Anne could just fade away and Catastor would be all that remained.
"I saved your life and release you from your debt. You don't owe me anything, so just let me go." Anne pulled away wiping the tears away. Karmi why did it hurt saying that?
Alphy didn't notice her shut her eyes at first, so he replied to her without knowing his words met deaf ears, literally, "I loved you before you saved my life, you didn't even know that was me. I love you because you're YOU." Suddenly, he looked up to Anne's face and slowly pet her hair away from her face. The words stung but Alphy hung on until Anne broke away from him. He looked down, and cursed under his breath. It was one thing to have powers, but it was another to not use them on someone. Anne told him to stay out of her head, so Alphy wouldn't do it again, not now, and not again.
Instead of running away from the argument, cowering in fear, or getting frustrated and leaving, Alphy stood there. Taking a step forward, he winced as his knee sent a shot of pain up his leg. Looking down, he grimaced and clutched it with his hand.
After a moment, he got in front of Anne again, and made sure she could see him, "I love you Anne. I did before you saved my life... so please, can we grab dinner and talk? As in a date, and to keep my word I'll even give you the damn broach. I won't be in your head, ever again... but I'll need that at night... so...ugh..." He pulled the bright red gem out of his pocket and held it out to her. "Will you date me?"
The stupid red pin was almost the size of her palm. Anne glared at it, it would be so easy to teleport it away and forget where she put it. No she wouldn't do that though. Instead Anne found herself taking it and putting it in her pocket before nodding and saying okay to go out with him. "Okay, I'll go out with you." She still had a hard time believing that he loved her, but she'd be selfish again...this one time!
Anne brushed her hair behind her ear and looked up at Alphonse. She had a hard time believing that he was Penumbra. He didn't seem like the type, he was so bookish. She was too but that was here nor there. He had kept it a secret from her even knowing hers. Anne had found herself forgiving him, but the hurt was still there, and so where the questions. Was he ever going to tell her or just keep on making a fool of her. He had figured out her's so quickly too. Awkwardly she adjusted her backpack staring at his mouth. "So what now?" She could still feel the weight of his pin in her pocket.
As Anne accepted the pin, Alphy grinned from ear to ear. He was afraid of so many things. He was afraid that she would reject him, take the pin, smack him, or run away. This outcome was the best, and he knew it. Gently, he poked her forehead and reminded her, "I'm going to need that back, but you'll have something better, trust me." Smiling, he took off his glasses and hugged her tightly, bringing her close to his face but not kissing her.
It would be her choice to trust him or not. In his mind, he was already deciding what to buy her, where to take her, and what to eat. It was probably going to be a fancy place, but he wasn't sure yet. He looked her in the eyes, narrowing in a display of his desires, and then responded softly, "I'll pick you up for dinner, but I'm not sure if you would prefer a formal restaurant or an informal dinner at home..."
Anne offered up a small smile before pulling out his pin out of her pocket and slipped it in his hand before poke his forehead back. She kissed it and rested her forehead on his. "Are you really that blind without your glasses?"
"It's up to you. I don't really care." Alphy was far from a safe choice, she had Catastor and he had Penumbra. Heck it might even be considered dangerous. She wasn't sure how different the two were. Where they like she and Catastor, one being the magnified personality or the original, or where they two separate personalities? For what ever the reason Anne couldn't get herself to care, she was just happy that she had someone to hold her. Anne leaned up and kissed him on his cheek before hugging him. "Thank you."
Anne's question made Alphy laugh, but he smiled and held onto her tightly. He nodded and stared at her eyes, "I am a little blind, but I can still see how beautiful you are. Don't you remember how we met?"
Oh, it was funny. Alphy remembered staring at Anne from across the street. Her red eyes peaked his curiosity, and he found himself drifting across the street to talk to her. At first, he hadn't realized that she was attractive, but as they grew closer together, he noticed. After a moment, he smiled and then decided, "We'll eat at my house, that way we can talk without anyone thinking we're insane...except my family..." Looking down, he kissed her cheek slowly, and after he pulled away he whispered, "Don't thank me...I love you Anne." Then, slowly, he leaned his head in close until their lips barely touched...
"I remember you commented about my eyes. I thought that was the worst pick up line I had ever had the private off lip reading. I also remember being interrupted by a giant robot being piloted by an idiot in ugg boots."
Not that Anne would ever admit she had been attracted to him when he came over to talk to her. He was good looting and very smart. She had been disappointed when he didn't seem into her but having him as a friend was enough. She didn't think that this would ever happen. She had been so sure he was into Barbra.
When he kissed her, her brain shorted out a moment. She ess slow on the up take before she found herself kissing him back...poorly. When they broke off she was blushing red like her eyes. Quietly she nibbled something about first kisses and no experience.
Annette looked up at him and smiled a little. "When are you going to be picking me up? Wait how do you know where I live?"
Is now a bad time to mention that Alphy had never kissed anyone before? His only experience came from movies and related media, but his experience ended there. He wasn't terrible, but he wasn't extremely good. In fact, he was probably opening his mouth too far and almost "ate" her lips. Either way, he pulled away so red that it matched the inside of his cape.
Bashfully, Alphy turned his head down to the floor and rubbed the back of his neck. Trying not to sound like a stalker, he hid his face in her neck, then pulled back to respond, "I...I may or may not have followed you home...you were worrying me and I wanted to see if I could help..." coughing off the sentence, he continued, "Well we could just go home straight from here, and then you can hang around so my family can interrog- I mean meet you! I'm sure you'll get along..."
For a second, Alphy realized that that last sentence may have struck a weak spot. She'd just lost her family, and Alphy felt like he was accidentally filling the gap. His family could adopt her, of course, but dating his sister would be too awkward, wouldn't it?
Anne paused and stared at him. She honestly wasn't surprised that he had done that. The prospect of meeting his parents formally as a romantic interest made her nervous. She felt the green ugly best followed by anger show its self. He still had his family while she had failed hers. Anne quickly suppressed it.
"We can go now, off you're sure it's ok." She felt sick and sad. With the excitement over she could feel her head ache coming back. Anne understood that he loved her but she felt so conflicted. She couldn't say it to him while hating the other part of him.
Anne smiled and kissed his cheek again. "It's nice to have someone worry over you."

The roleplay takes place after the series end of the original Teen Titans animated show, but does not include the movie Trouble in Tokyo. Since then Robin has been on something of a recruiting spree, and many new young heroes have found themselves a home in Jump City as well as Titan Tower.
