The Stars Must Fall [Beetle/open]

It was a quiet peceful mid summer day in the park of Jump City. Many of the citizens were enjoying a picnic or just some time together with their freinds and/or their loved ones. There was even a band playing on a makeshift stage purely for the enjoyment of those there. Titan's Tower shone not to far in the distance, a symbol of the peace they were enjoying. And as always, there was one entity observing the humans while seemingly not being noticed. It wasn't that this entity was invisible, just merely not bothering anyone or breaching thier comfort zones. The nanite swarm was good at not being noticed. It made observing and learning much easier for the collective.



However, as is normally the case in Jump City, the peace would not last for long. This time the Automnomous Nanite Group wih Elevated Learning Capabilities - L1L17H was not the only swarm in the area. Besides the fire ants in a bed exactly 1.581258 meters directly ahead of her, another swarm filled the sky. Starlings, the small polyps that would one day become the new Starro, decended from space and into the Jump City park. Many of the citizens were able to get up and start fleeing. Some where unlucky enough to get a starfish to the face.



Seeing that these creatures were causing pain to the humans they came in contact with, the nanite queens basic programming kicked in. "Command: A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. Beginning Defense Operaton." The swarm, in it's default apparent form, started running through the park, conical drill replacing the left hand and the single edged sword replacing it's right hand. It made its way towards the closet human in danger each time and sliced through the polyp like a hot knife through butter or pierced one through the center, sending Space Sashimi everywhere.

    Looking at the baking sun overhead Jaime was reminded of home. For once there was not a cloud in the sky and he really could enjoy soaking up some solar radiation. The scarab had commented when he first laid down on the park bench that it was a ridiculous practice to allow intentional exposure to the sun for the sake of changing ones skin tone, but like he usually did he ignored the spinal bug and closed his eyes hoping to enjoy the rest of his afternoon ‘off’.

    While it was not unheard of to have attack in broad day light, they were fewer and farther between. Besides he was not the only hero and he trusty communicator was in his pants pocket if some one really needed him. Folding his arms under his head Jaime took a deep breath in and was just about to loose himself to a snooze he noticed a veil of darkness flitter across the back of his eye lids. Perhapse a ball some one had thrown or a frizbee passing by. Slowly more and more dappled the back of his eye lids with quick moving shadows. “Y ahora que!?” he grumped out opening his eyes just in time to roll off the bench and avoid his very own face sucker. “What IS that thing!?” the words erupted in disgust from his mouth as he scooted away from the bench where the purple star fish had landed.

    Looking around him the full gravity of the chaos began to sink in and he knew his break was over. “I’d be angry about this..if..I knew exactly what the heck was going on..”. ~Identification confirmed. Starlings. Threat level high, avoid all contact!~ Jaime knew it was bad if the scarab considered the little ocean suckers a threat. ~Defensive procedures activating~ Jaime could feel the scarab trying to overtake him but for the moment he painfully fought it back. “WAIT wait let me at least get out of sight". Looking around the hordes of terrified people he only saw one thing and his eyes narrowed. Running over he stepped into the port-o-potty and grumbled. “Superman gets a phone booth and I gotta deal with the park potty..great.”.

    The Scarab wasted no time now that it had permission to wrap Jaime up in the suit. Burning at his skin while it bonded to his body and crawled out form his spin. “Does that..ever get less painful?” Jaime’s eyes opened slowly with their now yellow ting. ~Permanent transformation would solve for constant discomfort~ “yeah that’s not happening..I don’t think life would get any less painful if I went Blue Beetle full time. And have you tried sleeping in this thing!?”. Exiting the bathroom he looked up, and as much has he would have liked credit for it, the scarab was the one that whipped up his hand already in the form of a power blade to slash a Starling in half before it got him. “Determined little gremlins huh?..Thanks” ~Defensive measures necessary. Starling forces pose a threat to the goal.~. Jaime rose a brow as his other hand shifted to a sonic cannon. “We are going to have to sit down and talk about this..’goal’ one of these days.”

    Taking off he headed to where the majority of the creepy starfish were falling and instantly sent a high frequency blast through the hordes. Instantly exploding any that contacted the sound. “Like shooting fish in a barrel!” he exclaimed before noticing he was not alone in the fight. She had shifted her hands much like he had while keeping much of her feminine physique. In awe he watched her turn starfish to sashimi and had to wonder how she could shift her form. Maybe she knew how the scarab was doing it to him. They sooo needed to talk when it was not raining sea animals.

    Firing up another blast he realized only now that those whose faces were lost beneath the star fish were rounding on the two heores. Sure he could serve up some mean punishment to the star fish but these were people, women, children, elderly, young, it didn’t seem to matter that they had no way of winning. Like zombies they headed straight into the thick of things and Jaime knew this was about to get a lot more difficult. Moving in closer to the other hero, or at least assumed hero, he called out. “You don’t happen to know what a Starling is and why its all freaky one eye fish zombieing people do you?”. From what he knew this was just a super powered girl. What the scarab told him was far from anything he would have been able to guess. ~Nanite signature detected. Fuctional frequency detected. Upload control code?~ “control code..wait she’s a robot?!?”

The swarm had been too busy dissecting the Astroidea [pun with the scientific name for Starfish Asteroidea] to notice one human ducking into a booth and emerging as a superpowered being. As a rain of the space polyps came towards the face of the apparent form, it placed the drill in thier path. The conical drill made some small aterations before popping open as an umbrella. The polyps slammed against the shield and fell to the ground. The umbrella was closed and it returned to it's drill form.

“You don’t happen to know what a Starling is and why its all freaky one eye fish zombieing people do you?”

“control code..wait she’s a robot?!?”

The voice seemed called out to the swarm, prompting the audible relay sector to divert more attnetnion in that direction. It seemed like it was also communicating with an entitiy that the swarm could not perceive. But the Phrase Control Code informed the nanite queen enough of what possible plan they had. "Statement: Control Code is not required. The swarm is fully capable of independant combat." It was at that moment one of the Starling infested citizens were right upon the apparent girl with a Starfish in hand to plant on the face. Contact was made but only minimal as the polyp and infested human went through the swarm like it was a wall of honey. As it passed, the sword arm came up and sliced through two stars while the drill arm pierced one on the other side.

The form now rippling in a silvery shene started to recover. If a superpowered being was present, it should institute the uniform protocol. As it was firing up, the feminine shape seemed like it wasn't wearing clothes at first. Heels formed on the heels of the feet giving a slight boost in elevation.

Once the human had very safely passed through, the swarm processors kicked in. Through a ariety of information, it determined that it could not save those human without harming them. This caused the entire form to drop arms and recompile them back into the form. This was when the coloration started to kick in.

First to return was the pink to the hair. The Flesh coloration soon shifted in but stopped at the neck line as a line of black appeared. The blac was glowing and drew lines over the silvery body streaming from this first shine of red and going down the center of the torso, both front and back, across the top of the shoulders and down the arms, back of the hand and fingers, forming a beltline around the hips, and finally down the outside of the legs until it caused the sole of boots to glow in the same red. The remainder of the body filled in in a glossy, almost spandex like red. It had stopped being the Angel and became the Demon, Dangerous Entity Matriarch Over Nanites - L1L17H. Statement: Command Laws rewritten. Humans can not be saved without harm. Power supply stabile and not in danger." Almost immediatly, the left hand reformed in the shape of a sledge hammer head, colored red with the glowing black outlines. The swarm spun on the thin heel and collided the new weapon to the side of the infected human's head effectivly knocking it out.

    Jaime thought his confusion was at its peak, that was until the female fighter disassembled like a dust cloud to avoid the attempt to be polyped by the already over taken man. His attempt to warn her became a slur as his jaw just dropped and he watched the sword arm continue to fend off the rain of star fish, while the drill did the same. Time felt as though it slowed, watching the mass of microbes skate around the brainwashed man and his hand full of seafood. The ripples of silver reminded him of mass fish shoals glittering in the sun as they moved without gravity’s full constraints. However, no dust of fish could do what this ‘swarm’ seemed capable of.

   Before his eyes not only did the ‘girl’ reassemble but it did so in a completely new form. Though something about this new configuration seemed a bit darker than the first. The hair, pink in color, remained, but the choice of what could only be called clothing, was a pallet of red and black. The droopy jaw plastered on Jaime’s face only became further contorted as he drew up one of his brows and caused the japing hole that was his mouth to follow suit and cock up on one side. “What in the…is..that?” he asked to what would look like no one, but the one whom he sought an answer from was never out of ear shot. In fact, he really could just think these things but, speaking was so much more, human. ~Nanite swarm, a hive minded entity of nano bot droids surrounding a queen.~ Jamie finally closed his mouth if only to gulp a bit at the thought. “So like a..bunch of really tiny robo bees?” the scarab was silent and Jaime just had to smirk. Was it that bad of an analogy?

    Statement: Command Laws rewritten. Humans cannot be saved without harm. Power supply stabile and not in danger.

    “Command laws..? What’s a command law? Not really the thing that sounds like it should be re-written…” Jaime muttered feeling a bit unsure about this new red persona, the idea of billions of tiny robots was enough to send the creeps up his spine, but if they turned out to be not so friendly he had no doubt those things could get in just about anywhere and he was not ready to be cleansing nanites from his blood stream.

    ~Paripheral sensors tripped: 124 degrees north.~ Spinning on a dime Jaime saw a middle aged woman running at him swinging her arm up with the mean end or a Cyclops star fish pointed right at him. Ducking he cut his arm low and ended up flipping her over onto her back as the starfish was dropped and finished with a stab. “Uh..I dunno whats with the laws and wardrobe change but..please don’t tell me your make me have to fight you too.” It was not so much a whine as it was a legitimate request. The last thing to top of a horde of face sucking calamari was to try and kick a trillion tiny buts as wall. Glancing back he only just caught the hammer clipping the side of captives head and knocking the down hard, and out cold. “WHOA HEY..Is that..safe?” he shouted ready to send a sonic blast right through the dust cloud that looked all too much like another human being..with..a..hammer for an arm. In the meantime he didn’t have the luxury of just gawking any more, the hordes were getting closer and all of them seemed to have one hand ready to catapult a star fish at them like pies on a clown.

    ~The nanite entity has a valid solution. Remove the consciousness of the host..or kill them~ “no..killing..but I am at least glad to hear you offer the nonlethal version first..” As three more highly determined zombified park goes approached Jaime withdrew the weapons on his hands in favor of one on his back. Between the two antenna protruding from his shoulders over and above his head, electricity arched. Before the group had time to stick him with a brian sucker he released enough electrical current that it acted as a taser effectively dropping the human hosts like flies but leaving them plenty alive. Keeping an eye on L1L17H Jaime allowed the fingers on his hands to turn to long thin blades as he clawed at the falling stars and used the electrical current to drop any persons that got to close.
