He was late again. When is he not late really? Typically the other members of Justice League Dark had grown accustomed to their leader's less than punctual attitude and were just used to it, but when the temperature was well below -15 degrees here on the coast of the Antarctic mainland, it was little bit more difficult to tolerate his behavior. On the frosty coast of the southern most continent of the world, Nimue Inwudu otherwise known as the mystical immortal Madame Xanadu tapped her foot and sighed as she counted 30 minutes since her partner John Constantine should've arrived.
Any later and he would likely arrive after their younger counterparts joining them for this particular expedition. The event actually arose after a signal from Xanadu's tarot stating that a great danger could arise from the South and that the key to preventing this would be the youthful eyes of hope. Nimue had her own theories to what her premonitions were telling her, but John decided to go with the literal interpretation and grab a bunch of young heroes and take them to the South Pole. Genius. Absolutely genius.
The specific 'youth' he'd enlisted were members from various branches of the Teen Titans initiative. Nimue lacked all that much interest in the organization, but that was perhaps because it'd been centuries since she'd been a teenager. The particular members he chose though intrigued her enough. There was Zatana Zatarra whom John had been eying to have join Justice League Dark when she came to be old enough to do so; Penumbra, the grandson of Lamont Cranston, a individual Nimue had had the pleasure of working with back in the 1940's; Terra, a geomancer who had managed to defy death and kill the infamous Deathstroke; Batgirl, a rising star in the area of heroes skilled in great intelligence, and perhaps most interesting of all, their leader for the excursion; Raven, the daughter of the most terrifying Trigon; a demon whom she'd personally met and feared.
In one way or another, she had interacted in the pasts of all these heroes. It was not coincidence, of this she knew for certain. When you could see fortune itself, you learned to question 'coincidences'. There was only so much she could tell everyone of what was to happen here in the Antarctic over the next week or so. To some it may seem unfair that she could prevent certain tragedies and events, but the tarot were sensitive things and asked for very strict accordance to their demands, so she would remain mum of what was to come, even to John.
She was aware some manner of travel had been arranged for the Titans that would allow them to arrive in the Antarctic quarter relatively unharmed and safe, but she honestly had no idea how John intended to get here. For all she knew, he could come flying in on a half-wrecked speedboat or just will himself there. His magic seemed to come and go in it's usefulness a lot of the time. She simply just got a helicopter. It was easy and even still, the technology of modern day amazed her. It made it almost seem like magic was almost unnecessary in this day and age. Time and time again though, that thought was proven so very very wrong.
