"Friends! Welcome to Jump!Con. Allow me to go over some ground rules, before my son's band officially declares the convention open."
Sterling sat behind a curtain, breathing heavily as his father stood out in front of the curtain. He was going to be singing in a bit, after his father laid out the ground rules for the con. No fighting, heroes and villains welcome, Teen Titans get in free. That about summed it up. Sterling's Alucard cosplay was flawless. From Castlevania rather than Hellsing. The rest of the band were also dressed up as Castlevania characters, with the drummer being Richter, the guitarist Trevor, and the bassist was dressed as Scylla.
Look them up, all established castlevania characters.
Sterling waited for his father to continue. The man could be assumed to be cosplaying Kamina, from Tenga Toppa Gurren Laggan, but that was just really how he looked day to day. August was far too anime for his own good, really.
"Villains are welcome. Heroes are welcome. This is a place of peace, outside the dedicated areas for brawling, five Metahuman proof rings in designated areas. We have hired a security firm known as The Equalizers to run mundane security, as well as I myself have taken magical precautions. While not tested, these invisible-until-needed security measures would likely be able to fell Superman. Magical healing will be available for those who use the rings, if they so choose. But we are not here to talk of fighting, are we?"
He drew the katana on his hip and held it to the sky.
"A sword can be used for deterrence instead of death, after all."
He sheathed the sword.
"There is quite literally a coffee shop around every corner here, since it's a three day event and I know some of you will stay the entire three days without leaving. I did when I was young...and before I forget, we've set up 'Crash Pads' around the building, too. Prices are low, but all proceeds go toward the charity of your choice when you buy something, or you can simply tell the person you're buying from to pick for you if charity isn't your thing and you don't care. My daughter is a necromancer, who am I to judge?"
A laugh rippled through the crowd. August had always been very public about magic.
"To kick things off, I've personally donated one million dollars to the Jump City Homeless Shelters Fund. For those of us here that may fight crime, even petty crime, giving what you can helps to alleviate at least petty crime. With a roof over your head and a warm meal in your belly, at least for a night, things can seem much better. Alas, I've gone off on a tangent. My son, Sterling, and his band, will be opening the con with a song for us all."
The curtain raised into nothingness, the stage was enveloped in unnatural darkness, especially for ten in the morning. Suddenly, a flame for each band member flashed, a brief fireball in each hand. What that actually was was an instant-memorization scroll delivering the song directly into the minds of each band member.
The fist line was spoken.
"A bloodline charged with ridding dracula from the land."
And then all hell broke lose on stage, figuratively at least. Instruments blared into high gear and the Song played. The gowling voice coming out of the lithe young man was probably a surprise to many, especially the young lady that had VIP con tickets who was likely backstage.
As the song ended, on the final note, the giant gate behind them exploded into doves, and the con was open to all, whether they had pre-registered, or shown up at the gate to buy tickets. The band walked off stage, the young man dressed as Richter clapping Sterling on the back and telling him he hadn't expected a good performance out of him, or at least one like that.
Sterling just sheepishly shrugged and went to meet up with Kaie as August raised his katana again.
"I declare the first annual Jump!Con officially...OPEN!"
((OOC: Rule are that you make a Jump!Con thread, you tag @ redwizard and mark it as Jump!Con in the title. so I can monitor them and make whacky things happen if I see fit. No fighting outside of the rings he mentioned, and the con layout itself I intend to be malleable, reflecting its magical nature. The only real rule for the layout is the building is much much bigger on the inside than it appears to be on the outside.
Anyone can join a Jump!Con thread, as long as it is marked as Open. Even if it isn't, Sterling or August may appear in it. The ones who reserved spaces in the Plotter thread are just given priority for whacky hijinks.))
