Batgirl had to make sure that Penumbra was going to be far away so that he wouldn't be sitting, invisible, in the corner while she decorated for his surprise party. So conveniently, there was a heist going on across town. Barbara had found a way to exclude him from the mass-texting the communicators sent out, so that she could invite the rest of the team to surprise him when he returned.
Christmas decorations were already up, as Christmas was in three days. However, she added a "Happy Birthday" garland, blue and red streamers, and grey birthday balloons. Smiling to herself, she stepped back to admire her work with her arms crossed over the yellow symbol emblazoned on her chest. They would be back soon, she knew. And the others would be here any second to join her in the actual surprising. Her gift hung back in the corner, twine tied around a brown paper-wrapped rectangle.
