"He's in Austria. He should be able to help you."
"Got it. Thanks, Mom."
Sterling Mortlock was in a bit of a pickle. His spellbook had been burned, in a battle with a wizard from a rival family. The how wasn't as important as the result, in any case. Magical feedback from the death of Fimbulvtr haad been causing him splitting headaches, and the mark on his chest from the battle had been growing larger. It was also turning as black as ink. It was plain to see, the enemy had laid a curse-mark on him, and if he didn't have it removed in some way, he was going to die.
Enter the King of Hearts. With the Crest of Hearts, he had the ability to remove any curse, no matter how strong, and this curse had proven too strong for any of the American Mortlocks to remove.
Thus, he would seek out the exiled Domon Kasshu Mortlock, a son from his father's first marriage. Named for an anime character, he had been adamant about his father seeking psychiatric help for his downright obsession with the stuff. He had been disowned, but had apparently reached out to Sterling's mother to help him.
And so Sterling had reached out to his fellow Titans. He knew his half-brother would likely be embroiled in conflict somewhere, so he had reached out to fellow Titans interested in being bodyguards, so to speak, as he was entirely powerless at the moment. He had offered pay, as well, knowing he had no right to ask charity of his betters.
The two that had accepted would be a hundred thousand dollars richer, in any case.
Sterling stood at the Jump City private air strip, waiting for Kaie and Terra to show up. He was wearing plain clothes today, a white button down shirt, blue jeans and a black jacket. It was quite cold, so black gloves as well. He was leaning on a cane, and had dark circles under his eyes. He looked every bit the sickly child he had been in his early years.
After a coughing fit, he continued waiting.
