Red light erupted first. It was followed by blue, then yellow as a character in a sharp black suit entered the scene. He calmly walked forward to the center of the room. The lights circled the man before gradually expanding over the whole room. Gordon Godfrey reached his seat, pulled it up and sat down and the whole room was illuminated in a very crisp light.
"Good evening Jump city, America and the rest of the world." The host's tone was unusually somber. "Dark days have fallen upon us." Behind the white man, blurry pictures of spacecrafts flashed, one after the other. "And I am sorry to say this, but it seems that I was once again, one hundred percent spot on right: The alien threat is real, and we are completely unprepared for it." The pictures kept cycling in the background, growing bigger with each second. It was as if the screen was going to swallow the whole room with it's increasing girth. "As you have heard from our President herself, we have formally declared war to the aliens that breached our sacred solar system mere hours ago."
The alien threat is real, and we are completely unprepared for it.
Gordon theatrically placed his hand behind his ear before talking again. "But I can already hear people saying: we are fine. The Justice League is here." The sign of the League, placed on top of their famed head quarter halls, appeared in the background screen. Gordon, suddenly dropping into a more angry stance, stood up and pushed against the table with his right index finger. "But where is the League right now, in the moment we need them the most? Where are our so-called heroes when the world is at the brink of extinction?" A giant red cross x-ed out the Justice League logo with a loud crashing sound. Animated cracks appeared on the screen, as if the symbol itself was crumbling. "Gone. After flying off to 'see what they can do', they have cut off any communication with Earth. " Rolling eyes betrayed the man's exasperation. "I do not even know whether to label this act treason, desertion or simply the product of typical superhero stupidity." He lifted his hands up, flipping his notes and pen in the air. In the same motion, Gordon also turned his back to the camera.
He walked away, shaking his head. But then he stopped. Jabbing his index back up in the air, he announced, "But there is hope." He slowly turned around again as a giant picture of a black woman in a business suit smiled sternly at the camera. "For former congressional aide Amanda Waller has announced that the government finally decided to take control of the rampant metahuman population." Pictures of diverse supers, both heroes and villains, started populating the screen. "You know, the ones either terrorizing our streets, or robbing them." Picture back on Amanda Waller as Gordon moved towards the camera. "But as official Waller has so eloquently said, there aren't such things as anymore as vigilantes or villains." His head turned an angry red again as he jabbed the air multiple times with his index. "You now have two choices to face: to work under us " Jab. "Or to work with them." He pointed at the screen behind him, where different aliens were pictured. Not all of them were from the Citadel. "Now it's up to criminals like Titan Robin and Starfire to redeem themselves and show us that they can follow orders from Earth's finest."
We have formally declared war on the aliens.
The large man started circling around his chair, like a jaguar preparing to pounce on an unsuspecting gazelle. "Time is short. We have begun a pardoning program. Metas, regardless of their previous affiliation or crimes, will be given a choice to enlist." Gordon paced faster. "We should have done this a years ago, but apparently it took Aliens At Our Doorstep to finally launch such a program. Tonight, officials will scourge Belle Reve and the Titan tower, trying to drum together and train some discipline and order into our future troops." Gordon suddenly broke into a very large smile. "What better way to welcome our alien invaders trying to conquer Earth than to throw at them our own population of metas and see who lasts the longer? Through fighting for their planet, they will earn back their freedom. Unless humanity fights and wins--there will be no freedom. There will be no tomorrow. We must stand now."
