Characters: Red X and Raven (invite only) Setting: All across the city on Christmas eve night Previous Threads: Seeing Eye to Eye (unrelated) Plot Summary: Red X gives Raven a Christmas scavenger hunt complete with bad poetry
Twas the night before Christmas And all through the Tower Not a creature was stirring At least not at this hour. That's how this story would have been told Were certain events not meant to unfold. Instead there was a breach on the first floor And yet the system said it was right out the door. A small brown paper package, wrapped neatly with a bow Lie at the doorstep with something below. Inside a small envelope was a card of white With a neatly written message as an invite.
"For a beautiful girl with a cloak of blue, I give you a mystery and here's the first clue. Look within for the secrets of old, The wonders they carry wait to be doled. The pages of time turn on in this story. But will you be the one who holds all the glory?"
The script of the note was of an unfamiliar hand Beautifully crafted as if meant to be grand. A simple little riddle for a well read young girl Made the author wonder if his game would unfurl. A clue to the riddle rested in the gift But if she wished to solve it, she would need to be swift. Within the wrappings, lay a book bound in leather Its age quite clear, but could it handle the weather?
OOC Note: I'm sorry but I had to turn the intro post into a poem-type thing. It was too cliche not too and was too much fun to resist. Tag Bry
She wasn’t exactly stirring, but Raven wasn’t asleep. Her eyes were closed, the blankets pulled up quite snugly, but her brain was still wide awake and thus she was out of bed before the third alarm sounded, answering the flashing of the gem on her cloak. She fastened said "cloak of blue" while she hurried through the hallways, contemplating alerting the others if they weren’t already awake, though she opted to see what was causing the breach before she woke anyone else. She silenced the alarms as she got to the front door, possibly saving the others a night of sleep, for it seemed there was…. No breach. The doors were still locked and sealed shut, and everything was quiet. Well, now everything was quiet.
What then caused the alarm?
Call it a book lover’s intuition — Unless there was something truly magical about the tome that directed her attention towards it — but Raven thought to open the door and have a look outside, just to be sure. She wasn’t disappointed.
Sitting hopefully, just outside the door, was a package and under the package, an envelope. Both of which all but hummed with an air of mystery. Raven gave a quick glance around, but the rest of the world was quiet and as it should be at this hour of the night. So she knelt beside the package and stared at it for a moment in thought.
Did someone really get her a Christmas gift?
Sliding the envelope delicately from beneath the package, for it seemed more harmless than the package itself, Raven read the card and blinked.
A beautiful girl? Who wrote this? She looked around one more time, like her answer would be waiting there in the shadows (he might have actually been there waiting in the shadows) and then she read the rest of the card, a curious colour in her cheeks. When was the last time someone had called her “beautiful”?
Malchior.
And a slight feeling of dread found its way into her stomach as she realized exactly what shape the wrapped package was…. It was a book, she was sure of it. So sure that she didn’t bother inspecting it before slipping open the paper and pulling it out.
True to the card’s claim, it was a book and an old one for sure. “The secrets of old” fit all too well and the entire gift certainly was a mystery. She looked over at the card, searching her memories for a trace of the handwriting, but she didn’t know it. She had no idea who’d thought to give her a book and send her on a hunt for clues, in search of—
What was she in search of? The wonders hidden in the book? Glory?
Well. She was certainly intrigued.
Slowly, she gathered the package and the card into her arms, certain to lock and seal the doors behind her before she took the present up to her room. A carefully whispered spell bound the perimeter of her room, in case the book held an ill-will that sought to infect the rest of the Tower, and then Raven returned to her bed. She sat in the middle of it, crossed her legs, and set the book in front of her, gazing at it like it might open of its own accord and start talking to her. Then she flipped open the cover and began to read….
As the dust ridden pages of this book of old Turned so carefully as their story was told. Though the story was designed to lure one in The biggest surprise came from something within. Settling about halfway through the book Lay a single loose page tucked away in a nook. It was an old piece of paper with notes to a song And in a corner was a drawing that did not belong. An emblem of a store that dealt in music unknown To the majority of the city yet something else t'would be shown. Look carefully at the crest and you would see That it lay surrounded by a cage near a tree.
Though the clues were vague, the choice was hers. Where would she go? One could only infer That from the clues she would arrive in one of two places. Would she choose the park and its wide open spaces To search for a tree amongst a million others? Or would she search in a store not known to the mothers Of this fair city since it lurked in the dark? If only Raven would look at a single little mark Indicating that there was more to be found. Should she follow that hint she'd have certainly frowned. Especially considering there was a small note within the note. That note would be simple, a one lined little quote.

The roleplay takes place after the series end of the original Teen Titans animated show, but does not include the movie Trouble in Tokyo. Since then Robin has been on something of a recruiting spree, and many new young heroes have found themselves a home in Jump City as well as Titan Tower.
