Characters: Kaie and Kid Atlas. Setting: Kingston High Academy cafeteria, lunchtime. Previous Threads:Walking Fast, Faces Pass Plot Summary: A lonely giantess is eating lunch, can she meet a new friend at her new school? Find out on this episode of TTGG!
Kaie had a lot on her mind right now. Pretty much her whole life had been turned upside-down in the past few weeks. In a good way, though. She'd moved to a new city in a new country in a new climate. She'd gotten a proper hero uniform, taken it on her first patrol, met a Titan, and fought a member of the original Hive Five. And on top of all that, new school. That one was the hardest part for her. She felt at home fighting supervillains, but school was different. Giants were normalish in superhero fights. In school, not so much. The other kids were a bit scared of her, and she could see why. At her size she had to constantly be careful not to squish anyone.
Everything about the experience set her out, even the uniform. It was custom-made for her size, and unlike most of the girls, hers had pants. You couldn't really wear a skirt when most people were about half your height. That, and the whole needing to sit crosslegged and crawl through doors would have made things even more awkward. She wished she could wear skirts, they looked kinda neat. Maybe she could look into some shrinky stuff sometime.
She was seated alone, taking up a whole side of a table. It was still her first week there, and nobody had wanted to make the first approach yet. Her eating habits probably didn't help either. Kaie's muscles were absurdly dense, she needed ridiculous amounts of protein to keep her strength up. As a result, most of her meals were based on Epic Meal Time. Today, she happened to have a massive bacon cheeseburger sandwiched between two thick-crust pizzas. Ma did not mess about when food was involved.
Today was a good day to be Remy. It was only lunch time, and he'd already passed two tests that he hadn't studied for, destroyed J-Dogg at b-ball in gym, and macked on some French hottie transfer student. Who spoke zero English. AND he found $10 in the hallway. AND he smelled amazing for some reason. Like, seriously! Who smells amazing after all of that? Not many people, if he had to wager, and the ones that did, well, they probably had a name that started with an R, and ended with a Y.
And included an E. and an M. In that order. Remy. Their names were Remy. Because they were... him. It's just him. That's the joke. Remy's the only one. Gosh.
Anywho, to put a proverbial cherry on this thus-far amazing day, after he got out of school, he intended to march right on over to the Titan's Tower and demand to be given the chance to join their team. He was feeling pretty good about himself right now; If it lasted, and hopefully it would, he'd be in a good state-of-mind to 'show off', as it were. He still wasn't completely sure on how his powers worked-- Only certain that he could survive being hit full-speed by an SUV-- but he knew that they didn't work when he didn't feel... well, all that super. He'd tried it out; he'd attempted to pull the tree out of his parent's backyard with his bare hands, but couldn't do it. But later that day, his dad needed help getting his overheated car down the street to the shop, and in that moment, his super-strength came to life. He couldn't be completely sure, but maybe he could only use his powers when someone was in need... Weird, that they'd work like that.
What he was sure of, however, was that ever since the SUV incident, his metabolism had skyrocketed, which sucked because he never remembered to wake up early enough to pack a lunch. So instead, he would have to make multiple trips up to the lunch lady, and acquire multiple lunches, which he would find a near-clear table to lay out before him. He wasn't popular, despite his antics; He didn't have to account for friends sitting with him, since he really didn't have any. As such, it wasn't hard for him to find an empty spot amid the lunchroom chaos.
Well, near-empty. One table was occcupied by one girl, who... he couldn't remember ever hitting on. Or meeting, even. She must have been new; considering the fact that she was the largest person in the cafeteria, if not the school... He was pretty sure he would have noticed her on campus at least once. Oh well; First time for everything and whatnot, so without much caution, or any at all to be honest, Remy gingerly strolled on over to sit on the other side of the table from the girl, sliding into his seat like a fresh youth. "You 'on't min', 'o you?" He said, after having already stuffed half of a Chicago slice of pizza in his mouth and judging his plate as to ascertain whether or not today's mashed potatoes were seasoned at all.
To her surprise, a boy sat down at her table. A cute one, too. Around her age, maybe a little younger. He didn't even seem nervous about the girl towering over him. Sure, he was less than half her height, but that was just details. Kaie smiled down at him, genuinely excited. "Well hello there!" She gave a little wave as he sat down. Maybe she was going to be welcome here after all.
Kaie giggled a bit as he talked through a mouthful of pizza. "No, is fine." Everyone here seemed so nervous around her, but this guy seemed totally relaxed. Like, ridiculously relaxed. Even if she wasn't 12 feet tall, it would probably be pretty unusual for a guy to be this chill about someone he'd barely met. Kaie was kind of curious. What was this guy's deal anyway? Ooh, maybe he was a hero in his secret identity! That would certainly explain it. It would also explain why she had never seen him before. If he was normally masked, she of course wouldn't recognize him now. She'd have to be as sleuthy as possible, maybe she could figure out his identity. There were only so many heroes in Jump, right? Unless he was a villain, but he seemed too friendly for that. Had to be hero.
"Me name's Kaie." She gave him a giant smile, holding out a finger for him to shake. "What's yers?" She was curious about the guy, but she had to keep that on the down low for now. She was already weird enough at her size, she didn't want to make it worse by adding creepy and invasive to the weirdness. "I jus' started here, is pretty good so far." To be honest it hadn't been great, but it definitely seemed to be improving. Maybe she could become one of the fabled cool kids eventually.
"Name's Remy! Nice meeting you, Kaie." The red-headed boy said with a smile, twirling a smuggled bottle of Dr. Cola X he'd grabbed from home with his idle left hand.
Now, Remy wasn't stupid. A bit of a goof, sure, but not stupid. There were just certain subjects you didn't bring up, no matter who or what you were talking to or about... Respectively, of course. For instance, if a man with one arm and a bum leg happens across your path, you really don't bring either of those things up. Like, common sense dictates if someone's comfortable talking about that sorta thing. As he chomped down on another bite of pizza, Remy figured that Kaie's next-level height game fell into that same pile of red-tape subjects. He'd let her bring it up, if she wanted to.
"That explains why I haven't seen you around! I suck at names, but I remember hotties." Mind you, not being stupid didn't mean he was tactful. Or even cautious. It seemed like ever since 'realizing' he had the ability to take a hit from an SUV and walk away unfazed, he'd gotten a bit more brazen. A bit less quiet. Most of the people who didn't hang around him (but otherwise knew of him) had noticed; It wasn't exactly a bad thing, but boy did it make for some poorly placed words at times. Even worse were the times when, much like now, he realized how bad they sounded.
"N-not that I only pay attention to that kinda thing. Just. Y'know. Aesthetics, and whatnot." Well done, Remy. Even he had to pat himself on the back for that Corey Crawford-level save. "Ahem. So, what's your story, Kaie? Where are you from?" Remy asked, reaching down for a fry. Or 10.
"Nice meetin you too!" Kaie smiled back down at him. He was a charmer, all right. She wasn't so sure about twirling a soda bottle, though. That seemed like a recipe for a mess. She hoped she wouldn't be in range if it exploded. She couldn't exactly borrow a spare uniform if hers got blasted with cola, hers was one-of-a-kind.
Kaie's face flushed when he called her a hottie. "Thanks!" Of course, there was another obvious reason to remember her, but it was nice that he was focusing on something else. Or complimenting her in general. That was still something she was getting used to. People back home had always focused on her size first and foremost, she'd never gotten much attention to the rest of her looks. Here in Jump, everyone was used to supers. People could look past things like gray skin or being twelve feet tall. It didn't hurt that Remy was a prettyboy, either. Kaie could get used to this.
And then he started tripping over himself. Kaie held in a laugh as he scrambled to tone it down a bit. "Yer pretty aesthetic yerself." That was how words worked, right? Close enough, anyway. "Oh, I'm from Dublin, jus' moved here no too long ago. Started heroing, too. Jus' joined the Titans!" Kaie puffed up a little in pride. She'd always wanted to be a hero, and now she was one! "What about you, whas yer story?"
"Well, nothing near as hardcore as yours, I can tell ya that now," Remy noted, an impressed smile on his face having listened to Kaie's story. A Titan! Well, that certainly explained that one question that he still wasn't going to ask for obvious reasons. "My family's from up north-- Quebec, specifically. We moved here about... 14 years ago? I think. Basically grew up in Jump City, so I know the hot spots, if you're ever looking to have some fun!" Well, that wasn't the worst way to phrase that one, anyway. It wasn't like he was being overly forward though, for once-- She seemed cool, like someone you'd have a ball hanging out with at a wild party. Granted, Remy knew his weakness for companionship; He thought just about anyone who didn't shy away from him at first contact seemed cool, so that wasn't much of a glowing endorsement... but that didn't stop him from changing his ways!
"So! Titan, huh? Cool digs! I figure you'll be the next one all over the news, fighting crimes and rescuing cats and whatnot." He joked, absentmindedly attempting to open the bottle of pop he'd been spinning only a few moments earlier. "Y'know, I thought about joining the Titans-- I figured, I could probably put my considerable talents to--" He attempted to brag, only to have karma remind him of his humility through a stream of over-fizzed cola flying up at his face. "Oh geez-- pfft--" So caught off guard was the boy that he accidentally stumbled backwards out of his seat at the table, tumbling to the ground behind him with next-level clumsiness while hastily trying to close the bottle he'd opened. By the time he got the lid on it, his shirt was more or less ruined. Slowly, he sat back down at the table, setting the bottle aside, before taking a single french fry and eating it like a boss. "...Considerable talents to good use, but I haven't found the right opportunity, yet." He finished, as if nothing had just happened at all.
Kaie laughed. She wasn't sure how hardcore her story was, certainly not nearly as hardcore as some of the Titans, but she would take that. After all, what was the point of being a hero if you couldn't bask in a little adulation every now and then? "I'd like that." Seeing the hotspots sounded pretty rad, especially with a hotguy. It was really seeming like Jump was her city. And Remy was Canadian, too. That explained the niceness.
She had to admit she liked the idea of being on the news. Maybe if she got some good press, she'd be a bit less feared. Too many folks got scared of giants, like she was going to grind their bones to make her bread or something. "Hope so! Made me firs' collar, too. That make the papers yet?" She hoped so. It had been a couple days, and even one member of the Hive Five being caught should at least be worth a story. "Helped Speedy bring in Mammoth this weekend. He were robbin' a mattress store. Not fer money, jus' stealin' mattresses. Supervillains are weird."
Kaie did all she could to suppress her laughter as Remy bumbled all over the floor. She wasn't very successful, but she was trying. "Ya okay there?" He seemed content to just keep going with what he was saying, so Kaie didn't comment on it further. She was curious, though. "So what are yer talents? Ya got powers, or more a skill hero?" It wasn't unheard of, especially for city-level heroes. From what she knew, Robin and Batman didn't have any powers besides gadgets and sick skills.
"Uh, well," Remy scratched the back of his head slightly, trying to think of the right response to her question about his 'talents'. Boy, that was a hard one to answer. He wasn't exactly... Sure. When they worked, he could lift ten times his weight, get hit by a bus, probably win in a fight with Cinderblock (God he hoped he never had to test that theory out). But they didn't always work... so did things he couldn't control count? "I, um, I guess you could say I'm a pretty tough guy!" He proclaimed, although he immediately did a quick cafeteria scan to make sure no one heard him say it. Wow, that's embarrassing to say out loud. "I'm really strong-like, and I can take a hit, or two. It, uh, sounds kinda lame when I say it out loud, admittedly," He noted with a frown, trying to think of anything and everything nearby to distract himself with, "But, uh... yeah, I... probably have super strength, or something." Or something was a necessary addendum in this case.
"Er-- But, wait, yeah, I think I heard something about that yesterday, Speedy and Mammoth at a mattress store. Er... I'm... sure the newspaper credited you and whatnot!" Remy was a terrible liar. Truth was, he did hear about Speedy's scuffle with Mammoth. It was second-hand; If the papers or the news reports had actually credited kaie for whatever hand she had in it, he couldn't say. Sucked, honestly. If the press sat down and interviewed her, she probably be a superstar in the school right about now. And he'd probably have avoided talking to her, because she'd probably be surrounded by jocks and cheerleaders right now. Funny how that worked! "'Course, like I say, a superlady like you, I figure you'll be making headlines within the month, no Speedy's allowed." He praised the girl, checking to see if his bottle of Dr. Cola X had settled down. There was next to nothing in it. Beautiful.
"Excuse me," He muttered, before taking off his school uniform shirt and underlying tank-top off as if he weren't in a cafeteria full of people at the moment. He had a surprising amount of detail to his otherwise lithe body, which wasn't terribly surprising when considering he was on the Olympic Wrestling team. Good thing Kaie (and by extention, he) had decided to sit alone! "It's not drying out fast enough, sorry," He noted, before trying to wring the clothes free of excess pop. Which, in and of itself, was a trial; He didn't want to wring them too hard, because his powers would probably activate, and he'd be out of a uniform for the day.
He had another one in his locker, but still... He kinda liked this tank top. "So how was that like? Fighting Mammoth alongside Speedy?
Kaie listened as he explained his powers. "Sounds like ours are kinda similar, except the obvious." Kaie laughed a bit. She wondered how his superstrength and toughness measured up to hers? She was a pretty heavy hitter, but there were also lots of smaller heroes who were way heavier hitters than she was. For all she knew, he could be just being modest and he was Saitama levels of strong. Or he was being honest and he had more normal-level superpowers.
She let out a squee when he said she'd been in the news. "I gotta find an article, make me a scrapbook or somethin!" By which she meant have Ma make her a scrapbook. She'd do it herself, but they didn't really make good scissors in her size. It was hard to cut things out of a newspaper if your fingers wouldn't fit scissors, and her hands weren't delicate enough to do the folding method. She'd just make a mess tearing it out. "Hope yer right. Gotta go do some more heroics, make a name for meself." She wondered what sort of shenanigans she could get into outside of school?
Then she was pretty effectively distracted. The cute guy who'd been hitting on her was now topless, and he had some well-defined muscle. Not big bulky build, but more lean. Kaie's face flushed as she tried and failed to drag her eyes away. "Oh um, is totally fine." She brushed off his apology, wanting a little more time to take in the fanservice. He was talking about something else, too. What was that he said? Oh right, Mammoth. "Oh um yeah! It were awesome. Mammoth were shorter than I thought, too. Like, pro wrestler height, I thought he'd be more like me."
Remy laughed a bit, moreso at Kaie's description of Mammoth than her clear enjoyment of their encounter. "Well shoot, not everybody can be that pretty." Remy stated rather matter-of-factly, until he realized that wasn't in the least what he meant to say. "P-Pretty-- cool. I meant to say, not, everybody can be that cool. Not that you're not pretty, just, y'know, it's weird to think of mammoth as pretty. He doesn't even have pupils." He expertly fixed his prior statement, a bit flustered, and a bit distracted from the task of wringing his clothes dry. Which, in some cases, would have been fine; The average guy would just lose their grip or something, and then go back to wringing. Remy, unfortunately wasn't the average guy, and in his carelessness, put a little too much torque behind his twisting. An audible rip could be heard, which brought him back down to Earth from 'play it cool with Kaie' land, causing him to drop his shirts... or what was left of them.
"Oh geez. Okay, okay, I can fix this..." He lied. A bead of sweat ran down the side of his face as he picked his school clothes back up and unfurled them, examining the damage. He'd completely frayed the shirt; It looked as though a horse and, well, Mammoth were playing tug-of-war with it and stopped mid-game. the sleeves were nearly ripped right off, held in place by a few threads, and the body of the shirt was stretched and ripped in the most awkward of ways. Remy frowned, balling the uniform top (and tank top beneath) up. "Okay. I can't fix that," He noted to himself, looking around for the nearest garbage can...
...Before remembering that he was, technically, still topless in front of Kaie. "Um... This is embarrassing. Here, I'll uh..." He murmured, giving the top a quick lookover before eventually deciding to put it back on. It was wrinkled, and still smelled slightly of cola, but at least he wasn't indecent. "I keep a change of clothes in my locker-- It's not a big deal," He eventually explained, looking his shirt over now that he had it on. It wasn't... too terrible, admittedly. Maybe he could just rip the sleeves off and wear it like that... Nah, his sisters would kill him.
Kaie blushed again. Remy was coming on pretty strong with the compliments. Not that she had a problem with that, it was rather nice to meet guy who was this flirty with a girl her size. Not to mention a prettyboy with no shirt, that was an added bonus. "Thanks!" A broad grin spread across her face. It was seeming like American school was going to be a lot of fun. Of course, Remy had to torpedo all the smoothness by tripping over his words again. She was having a hard time figuring him out. It seemed like he was a compulsive flirt that was cripplingly shy. Charming lines just popped out, and he got embarrassed and tried to walk them back. Kaie laughed. "Well, yeah. He sorta got the neanderthal look goin."
She froze for a moment when she heard the tearing. That strength of his must have kicked in. Part of her was a bit pleased with this, she didn't really mind seeing him shirtless. The giantess looked on with interest as he tried to fix the shirts, or at least assess the damage. It had been pretty well rekt. "Yeah, that looks pretty bad." Kaie nodded. Was he going to throw his shirts away? Because it looked like he was going to throw his shirts away.
Sadly, he decided to salvage what he could. Kaie stifled a laugh as he put on the stretched, tattered shirt. "Ya look like The Hulk after he go back to normal." Kaie smiled down at him. "Is a good look fer you, rugged. Don' know if it works wi' the dress code, though." She was pretty sure most non-uniform schools would even object to a guy whose sleeves were hanging on by a literal thread. She wouldn't, but the school would.

The roleplay takes place after the series end of the original Teen Titans animated show, but does not include the movie Trouble in Tokyo. Since then Robin has been on something of a recruiting spree, and many new young heroes have found themselves a home in Jump City as well as Titan Tower.
