Characters: Sterling, Kaie, NPCs. Setting: The shop Sterling works at, an ecclectic mix of manga, comics, and video games up front and a technomancer's machine shop in the back. "Kyoji's Nerd Shop" Saturday around noonish. Previous Threads: N/A Plot Summary: One nerd enters. One nerd is the clerk. Slow business day, conversation is had.
Sterling let out a sigh. Today was slow. Ubelieveably slow. He at playing an old gameboy advance while he waiting for customers to show up, but even Metroid Zero Mission wasn't lifting his spirits. Underneath his open button-down shirt was a T shirt that read "Hard work pays off in the future, laziness pays off now", and underneath the sleeves were the armbands that morphed into his armor. Blue jeans and sneakers completed his outfit, and his complexion was as pale as ever.
Completing a bomb jump and effectively sequence breaking, he decided to call it a day on Metroid for now, instead opting to stare off into space. There had been one "customer" today, and he'd tried to steal a copy of, of all things, an old Matter Eater Lad comic worth about fifty cents. Sterling had introduced him to mister stun club to the back of the knees, but now the day was boring again. Looking around the shop, most people would wonder why it was so large. The ceilings were much higher than your average comic shop, and the doors were nearly thirteen feet high.
Kyoji had to get his inventions out the front door if he was gonna sell them, though, and some of them could be obnoxiously huge. He was contracting out to a local construction company for now, and that was probably why, come to think of it.
In the back of his mind, Sterling was waiting to get off his shift so he could go back to Bob's and get a burger. He hadn't been back in a few days, due to illness, but the specials there were always good. He idly drummed his fingers on the counter, letting out another sigh, hoping something interesting would happen today, aside from an attempted robbery.
Now that Kaie was settled in, it was time to get back to one of her old pastimes: being literally a giant weeaboo. She'd done a search, and she'd found something promising. According to some reviews, one of the local comic shops was literally huge. Kaie headed out, dressed in her normal civilian clothes. Jeans, YAOI ZONE t-shirt, with a light jacket over it. Ma would never have let her wear that shirt if she knew what it meant. For her part, Kaie was still getting used to the weirdly warm weather. Southern California was a far sight warmer than Dublin.
When Kaie arrived at the comic shop, she was not disappointed. The doors were even taller than her head! If they weren't automatic, she was pretty sure most people wouldn't be able to open doors that high themselves. It seemed that way, at least. Admittedly, Kaie didn't know much about physics or architecture. She stepped through, not having to duck her head or crouch for once.
The place was weirdly empty. The only one there was a guy at the counter, currently with a Gameboy in hand. He looked to be about her age. Kind of cute, too. Kaie headed for the anime section, deciding not to bother him for now. He had his game to attend to. Well, she didn't vocally bother him. Her footfalls were heavy enough to get anyone's attention. She was trying to step as lightly as she could, but no matter how careful she was, you couldn't hide the sound of moving that much sheer mass around. The shelves shook slightly as she daintily picked her way between them.

Sterling saw the giant girl enter the shop. That was something you didn't see every day of the week, though he had seen a lot of strange people come in while he was here. Oddly enough, she fit the description of one of the titans he had heard about on the police scanner. Rumble? It couldn't be coincidence, he doubted there was anyone else in town that tall. But that was neither here nor there. Right now, the rather cute giant girl was a prospective customer.
"Anything I can help you find?", Sterling asked, a pleasant smile plastered on his face, and though fake it was it seemed real. The boy barely knew how to smile, to be honest. Hardship in one's life tended to drain the happiness out, if you didn't have good coping skills. He certainly didn't, coping was definitely not his strong suit. "We've got all kinds of manga and anime.", he said, stowing his gameboy in his pocket.
He gave that same, pleasant smile and awaited an answer from the giant, not bothering to introduce himself, as he wore a giant doofy button on his shirt that said "Hello, My Name is Sterling!"
"So, uh, yeah. Lemme know if you need help finding anything. My brother likes to say if it exists, we have it."
The guy seemed pretty much unfazed by her. Maybe this town would be easier than she'd thought. It was certainly easier than Dublin so far. People still got scared, but not as scared, and not as many. This guy seemed downright pleasant, giving her a big smile and welcoming her to the shop. She supposed that was his duty as a retail worker, but still it was nice to feel welcomed. Ooh, maybe word was getting around about her encounter with Mammoth? That would be pretty cool, being recognized as a hero who'd gone toe-to-toe with one of the Titan's Rogues' Gallery and done pretty well for herself.
"Thanks, I'll go have a look!" For a moment Kaie wondered how he'd known she was here for the anime, but then she realized she was wearing her weeaboo shirt today. That was sort of a dead giveaway. She was kind of wondering if he was into anime too, but she didn't want to bother him. He was at work, and she was trying really hard not to be a creeper. She was a hero now, she had to not do that stuff.
The ceilings were high, but the shelves were normal size. Kaie was having a bit of difficulty. She got down on all fours, crawling between the shelves. It was a tight squeeze, but she barely made it. Kaie had to press her cheek to the floor a few times to look at the bottom shelf. It was hard to see down there, with her blocking out most of the light. Kaie gave a frustrated sigh. It was going to be hard to get this stuff off the shelf if she did decide to buy something.

Sterling gave a friendly smile. Star City's magical community had been much weirder than her, in all honesty. His aunt Jo had been her size, at least on and off. His Uncle Stan had usually been the size of a mouse or normal sized. Really weird dynamic between those two. It helped you deal with weird things, growing up in a magical household. Though he didn't know any magic, himself. Had never learned it, had always been too interested in other things, he supposed.
He noticed her struggling, though, and put his gameboy away.
"If you need some help, Miss, I'd be happy to assist.", he said, stowing the GBA under the counter. He was putting on a brave face for Kyoji, interacting with other people. His standard misanthropy put aside to help his brother, at least. He didn't even sigh, or show displeasure. At least for now.
Besides, he actually got along okay with other anime fans, at least. "I'd be happy to make some recommendations, or just help you with the bottom shelves. I'm here to help."
He gave that pleasant smile, and MAYBE checked her butt out a bit. Sir Mix a Lot would have been proud.
Kaie sat up, turning to follow the voice. She hadn't expected the help, but she welcomed it. Navigating stores was a her-sized pain in the butt, but this place seemed to be more helpful. Kaie stood, stepping over the shelves to let Sterling in. Once again, she was glad for the massive ceilings in this place. At least for now, she could fit. She wasn't sure how much longer that would last, but it was nice to be more comfortable for once. "Thanks!"
"Well, lessee..." That was always a tough question. Kaie was sort of in between mangas right now, so she hadn't been quite sure what she was looking for. "Well, got any new action titles in? Been lookin fer somethin new ta get into." Action was always a safe bet. It was sort of in her blood. Superheroes, pro wrestling, cheesy action movies, Kaie just loved some good old-fashioned heroic brawling. Strength was a weakness of hers.
"What about you, what ya normally into?" She was a bit curious about this guy. He seemed to be an anime fan, and a pretty nice one. Not to mention kinda cute. She was pretty sure she'd never seen a guy with hair that long. Now that she thought of it, even HER hair probably wasn't that long, and she had a major advantage.

The roleplay takes place after the series end of the original Teen Titans animated show, but does not include the movie Trouble in Tokyo. Since then Robin has been on something of a recruiting spree, and many new young heroes have found themselves a home in Jump City as well as Titan Tower.
