Characters: Raven and Speedy (Kenni) Setting: In some unmarked warehouse that would more likely be the scene of a shady dealing. Previous Threads: None! Plot Summary: Raven and Speedy head out on a recon mission (their first mission together) when things get a little more complicated than they anticipated.
Robin had had her babysit before. It seemed he was doing it again. Raven was even less thrilled about it this time around than she was the first time, if that was possible. At least in babysitting three children there was an reason for childish behaviour. Speedy didn’t have quite the same excuse, being an nineteen year old man.
If “man” was an appropriate term for the juvenile hero.
And this time she wasn’t exactly anticipating coming out on the other end of the mission with a solid new relationship the way she had with Melvin, Timmy, and Teether.
Robin had gotten word of possible Crime Family activity downtown in the warehouses that formed Jump City’s less scenic side. Rather than rush in team members a’blazin’ though, he’d ordered a preliminary recon mission. Raven was an obvious choice, being one of the quieter Titans and Speedy….
Well, she didn’t quite know why he’d picked Speedy. Maybe to get the archer out on the field and introduced to Jump City? Maybe because Raven “needed" a backup partner and everyone else had their own missions? Maybe to keep Speedy out of trouble elsewhere (Valentine’s was coming up and young ladies were on the prowl for dates). Whatever the reason, Raven stood outside the Tower and waited for her partner to show up. She wasn’t incredibly keen on the idea of him tagging along with her teleportation, but if that’s what was required, she’d suck it up.
Ever since transferring to Jump, Speedy had only been on solo missions.
It wasn't like he was some lone wolf who enjoyed lonely patrols, no, that wasn't it. He just wasn't used to the team dynamics here, yet. There were so many members, and so much going on at once that it made him miss his original team that much more, and sometimes going it alone was better than dealing with all the newbers, like the core team members were forced to do for training purposes.
But he sure did love a good spy mission! Which was what 'recon' always translated to in his head.
Latching up a large briefcase containing his bow and quiver, the silent sentry slicked his 3/4parted hair back into place, and put on a fisherman's cap, cringing at having to mess it up for the role he was about to play.
The East archer watched from the roof of the warehouse as a low-riding vehicle with tinted windows drove off, a very familiar looking curly-haired youth in the passenger seat.
Didn't...they go to Kingston together? No, it was too far to tell if it had been little frosch Tate Dilettevole, and the guy was wearing shades and a fedora, anyway.
Whoever it was, his associates (and boy were there a lot of them) were still milling free-range around the warehouse. It was conspicuous alright, one Con' that the average teen would do well to steer clear of.
But Speedy and his partner weren’t your average teens by a long shot. So things would work out perfectly if said partner approved his idea.
Even if she didn’t, with his supersuit underneath his outfit and muted down for stealth purposes, they could on-the-spot something else, easy; the goth girl was pretty smart.
His area-scoping complete, it was time Speedy met up with his teammate of the evening... ..even though he was supposed to go to her, back at base.
But forget that! He had to actually get her on the scene already, so they could 'spy' to his their hearts' content.
A blip sounded on Raven's T.Comm. for a private call from Speedy's, the video-feed cut. For all it was worth, he called her right on time, for when he was supposed to have met her face-to-face.
"Come in, Raven. You can, like, triangulate my location with those freaky soul powers or somat, right?"
Was that a mite callous..? He continued in a low murmur, backing away from the edge of the roof, no skin off his back at his tone.
"I've got a plan. Meet me in the Industrial Sector, whether you track me through powers or palm-pilot."
First impressions were everything, yet he was already antagonizing and standing her up.
There were really too many things for Raven to decide what irritated her the most. The moment her T Comm. beeped at her, she sighed a deep and at-the-ready sigh, as if everything had followed her mental predictions, even if it wasn’t following her plan.
Speedy’s silky smooth voice came from the tiny communicator at Raven’s side and it took a bit of willpower for her to pick up the device from her belt to answer. Not like it mattered; Speedy’d cut the video feed. She listened in, pushing off the wall she’d been leaned up against as she did so.
"Freaky soul powers?"
Something in Raven’s brain bristled and she let out a long breath that might’ve been mistaken for a low growl had someone been close enough to hear her. Yet another stupid immature boy who judged on first sight. She should have guessed that, based on his looks and fashion and voice and word choice and actions and personality and—
But Raven was trying not to judge. And to ignore the fact that Speedy had pretty much judged her powers correctly.
She closed her eyes for a moment, quietly vowing to herself to kill Robin for this mission or at the very least make him suffer considerably, and then she spoke into the T Comm, her voice as quiet, monotone, and disinterested as it ever was.
“Your communicator has a tracking device. Stay where you are.”
Not liked she expected that to happen, but the T Comm. would tell her the moment Speedy moved anyway, so she didn’t bother enforcing her order with threats or consequences. She simply locked onto his signal and disappeared from sight, reappearing silently behind him, a massive raven with folded wings. Wings unfolded and the energy faded until it was only Raven standing there, hood up.
“You have a plan too, Long John Silver?” Her eyes rested briefly on his cap. “How convenient that we weren’t already following a plan."
OoC; I know a lot of the strong-arming later in the post is rather godmoddy, so lemme know if we should go a different route, Brybles. xD I wanted their first meeting to be rather memorable ahah.|
There was suddenly a presence behind him. Speedy nearly bit his tongue off at the surprise raspy, disinterested voice.
Turning and wincing to mask the pain (knowing next to nothing about said ‘freaky soul powers’, such as the feelings-transfer that ranged several stages of the inconveniently near-instantaneous), the sharply-dressed ‘agent’ let his tongue-flow seep into his teeth as he surveyed his mission-partner, crossing his arms, leaning in, and getting their gazes (as well as frowns) level.
From the little they had interacted until this point, he didn't really have enough to go on, other than she had gorgeous eyes (nearly glowing in there creepily with indignation..in the dark of her hood..because he had yet to see the rest of her actual face..since she was probably holding it out on him on purpose..), a sharp wit, was rather spooky to say the least, and best of all, had that no-nonsense attitude.
"Yeah, I’ve got one, too, and it’s better than yours." Which made, and would continue to make messing with her both challenging and extremely entertaining.
But no play while working! Well, okay, minimal play. In a roleplaying sense!
For contrary to the dismal appraisal the witch had afforded him in her heart, Speedy had actually been prepared. A tall order for the jovial, narcissistic, mischievous East's archer extraordinaire.
For the tall orderly ‘gentleman’ wearing a newly jovial, narcissistic, mischievous smirk, strode about the darkness of his perch around the lurking empath at a swift clip. Clipclipclipping along in expensive red leather—you guessed it, brogues—below similarly tinted suit, he'd chosen a black Oxford button-down under burgundy ensemble, and a muted mustard pocket-square matching his necktie. Armani shades shielded his eyes from view.
"It’s simple, Peekaboo—we get in, we throw the dogs a tasty trapped-up bone, and once we learn what they’re up to, you shock ‘em to the souls with a now-you-see-us, now-you-don’t." Plenty of childish payback for the pirate-plug she’d poked at him for the hat. And it wasn’t over by a long-shot.
Clink! Speedy reached out and handcuffed Raven's wrists together, already marching down their perch to ground level, brusque explanation made ruder by his accompaniment of cuffs.
And, y’know, by spitting red down the steps as they went.
"Heard yer a quick study, lasseh, so'm shore mincin’ werds winnae shroud mae plan in nearly s’much mystery’s yer face is, ye ken?"
His personal set of tinted windows returned inches from the female Titan's ear from behind as he got into character, speaking in what would barely pass as a light Scots brogue, arrogance the prime indicator besides the shock of red hair that it was Speedy putting on airs. Faint, but too obviously practised, if not under-practised.
“This much ought be‘nough tae fool the check-in guards when we low-key starm the place. Look sherp, and wi’more’n yer tongue, lasseh.” There was obviously still grief over his own tongue during this ridiculous situation Raven had teleported herself into the midst of, and the downright overcooked accent was proof that Western language families weren't his strong suit.
"Whit say ye we git this shoo on the rood?" Surprises on the other hand, were his strong suit. Along with..most..suits. At least, in Speedy’s humble opinion.
Light brogue got thicker as the plot thickened on his perhaps zany plan, and with that generic opener, the undercover Titan summarily started walking her straight into the syndicate's private meeting house.
Talk about a bull-headed, take-charge attitude.

The roleplay takes place after the series end of the original Teen Titans animated show, but does not include the movie Trouble in Tokyo. Since then Robin has been on something of a recruiting spree, and many new young heroes have found themselves a home in Jump City as well as Titan Tower.
