"So whaddaya think, Cy? How long will it take?" Kaie's impending visit this evening (following Speedy's highly embellished retelling of her impressive stack-up against Mammoth the other day) had been prefaced with him scouting out parts and raw material around the city's junkyards, all in preparation to create a Titans Communicator she wouldn't squish just by sitting down wrong.
Currently, the boys were unloading the T-Car with their haul.
Kaie would be arriving any minute, and luckily enough, the Tower was built for super-teens of all shapes and sizes; the ceilings were lofty and the square footage impressive in its own right, for being crammed into the shape of a T.
"These parts oughda expedite the process some, but the exterior of the Titanic Comm. is gonna be fresh mould, right? I sorta promised her a shiny new handheld, see," he explained with a sheepish grin, lugging some outdated but salvageable tech over his shoulder as he gave Kaie's particular device a nickname.
This was exactly why he'd sworn off making promises the very next minute.
Upon second-thought, the project had the potential to be a whole lot of work. It was a good thing Cy was a tech genius. Speedy was sure between the three of them, everyone would get an end-product to write home about.

They had a BIG problem.
Big, as in a size issue. They had to bring in entirely new parts because everything all the ones for their 'endless' communicator supply were too small for the job. Cyborg carried the oversized box and set it down at his workbench. "If these parts weren't here, we'd be talkin' a week," Cy said and began to take out the various components. If only they had the opposite of a shrink ray, like a giganta-ray, then it could take a matter of seconds. That'd probably be the start of some villain plot, though, so they had to do it the borin--ah, hard way.
"You guessed right," Cy replied when Speedy reasoned out their setbacks. "I'll need to make the mould, then pour in the mix, let it set, then we can talk assembly. So... a couple'a hours?" he said. "Buuut if you really feel like helping," he began with a grin, pulling out a thick manual tat had very detailed instructions and diagrams on T-com assemply. "You can begin steps 1a to 23b, but skip..." he flipped though quickly. "2d, 6n, 7n, 7x-z, and 22q," he said and then clapped Speedy on the shoulder. "If you need anything, I'll be making the mould."
It was a good thing the Titans had arranged to pick her up. It was hard enough to charter a boat. Harder still to get one to Titan Island, and pretty much impossible to get one there for someone her size. Kaie stepped onto shore, making a beeline for the Tower. The door was still low for her, but not as low as some she was used to. She only had to crouch down quite a bit to get through. Still not the most convenient, but a far sight better than most places. Inside, though, was much better. She could stand upright with room to spare in here! Kaie stood, cracking her back. "This place is so cool..."
Before long, she was guided to the workshop. Speedy and Cy were already there, hard at work. Well, Cy was hard at work. From the look of things, he'd just handed Speedy some sort of manual. The giantess walked in, all smiles. "Hey there Speedy! Hi Cyborg!" She was actually meeting Cyborg. In his workshop. It was all she could do to contain her fansplosion.
From the look of things, they were making her T-Comm. There were parts scattered around, and Cyborg was getting stuff together. "Ooh, workin on tha comm? Can I help?" She didn't really know how she could. Even if she knew the first thing about electronics, her hands were too big for this sort of delicate work. Maybe if something needed squishing.
As Cyborg patted his shoulder, the once eager East Titan blanched, poring over the instruction set. Since these were Cyborg's designs and he was awesome, the problem wasn't the comprehension density. It was the general density. This was gonna take hours!
"Too bad we can't just push a button and bam! Extra-Large Insta-'justment," he chuckled drily, voicing the mecha-man's revised wishes on the giganto-ray. Speedy sat cross-legged on the cold floor, fitting intricate piece by piece into the matching components. It wasn't actually that bad! He could apply his ArrowTech techniques to these instructions, at least...the parts that weren't supposed to explode.
After a fizzle and crackle of some wiring he was tinkering with in step 4c-d, this non-explosive notion was held with more scrutiny. There was a swoosh! of the laboratory door just then.
"Sure you don't wanna help, Beabster~? We could use your, er,...we could use you!" called the ginger. An equal parts amazed and disquieted Beast Boy, wide-eyed and bushy-tailed, squirrelled off almost as soon as he'd deposited Kaie with his friends, who were doing some kind of technical work in Cy's workshop. The momentarily feeble looking shapeshifter had peeked into the doorway, Kaie not far above behind him.
"Heh. Guess he's got plans. Find your way over awright?" He didn't mean directions to the Tower or anything; everyone could see where they lived from the bay. It was more the transportation over the water he meant. Even that, Speedy figured if push came to, she could basically wade over. But it was only the beginning of February and still a bit too chilly for playing in any outdoor water.
The green treedweller might have stuck around, getting over his initial fear (as in healthy respect) for this 'Rumble', as she'd introduced herself outside. However, he'd taken one look at the mess of nuts, bolts and manual labour required for...whatevertheywereupto, and beat it.
Speedy wouldn't wish this fate on anyone, anyway.
At least now the device's owner was around to lighten the load!
"Ah, right. Rumble, Cyborg; Cy, Rumble. Also known as Incredible. You shoulda seen her whoop Mammoth downtown!" He wasn't sure how she felt about the whole alias thing yet, so Speedy waited for the giantess to decide about letting the others in on her real name and things. Even though her particulars were already on file.
Her hero-name was good enough; this was Titan business right now! Even if it was going to end up more of a helping-hands hang-out than anything official.

Cyborg looked up to see their visitor. He hadn't met her until then, but there was no mistaking that she was exactly the person Speedy had told him about. He'd seen some giants in his career as a hero, but this was probably the cutest--and she was going to be a Titan! He lifted the protective visor he wore as he poured the viscous metal into the mould. "Hey! Nice to meetya," he greeted.
Speedy formally introduced them and Cyborg laughed, "Aww man, I wish I'd been there to see it. Always appreciate a good butt-whoopin'," he said and then put the visor down.
"The parts have been sized up so maybe you can help him sort what he needs from the box, while Speedy does the assembly," Cyborg suggested. "That way he doesn't have to waste time scrounging. I'll be over to help you once the exterior has been set."
ooc: So sorry for being slow! And for such a short reply orz
"Yeah, that'd be pretty great!" Weren't there grow rays? Kaie swore she could remember seeing news reports about villains with shrink rays, so it should be reversible, right? Then again, a shrink ray would be pretty cool on its own. Especially for her, she could go out all normal and not have to worry about stepping on someone. That would be pretty sweet.
Kaie barely had time to see BB slip away. Apparently he was not in a helpful mood right now. "Yep, got a pickup so got over jus' fine. Is a cool place, hard ta get to tho." Kaie sat crosslegged, surveying the workshop. All sorts of tools, parts, and other technical things were arrayed around them. She had no idea how anyone could make sense of it, let alone someone so close to her age. And Cyborg had been doing this for a while! He was probably some metahuman-level genius even without his cybernetics.
She puffed up in pride as the two discussed her exploits. Well, exploit. She hadn't had time for a second one yet. "We made a great team! Canna wait ta work with the rest of ya!" She wondered who she'd mesh best with? The Titans certainly had a varied enough roster, she could test things out with a few. There had to be some pretty badbutt matchups in that team.
Kaie saluted, starting to sort through the box. There were a lot of parts in here. "Um, what exactly am I looking for?" Cyborg was a tech genius, and Kaie sort of fumbled her way through school science projects. She was not the best candidate to be finding parts for a new T-Comm.
OoC; Short but sweet, Bonita! &&meanwhile I'm naturally sorry for it having been aaa month and change, whew! xD--orz* c; |
"You two would make a sick team, actually! Brawny beauty. I'm less talking about you, Cy, but you do clean up nice," Speedy grinned, pretending to spit-shine the tall dark and Titanic cyborg's bald head off.
It would be pretty funny if they all realised they were thinking along the same lines of the whole shrink/giganto-ray thing.
"Great idea, Cy! We'll be done in no time with a tag-team approach, Kaie. First off, couldjya pass me that piece there so I can secure it in? That L-shaped dark red tetris block by the tires." He wouldn't admit it, but some of these parts were pretty heavy due to said scale-up.
"Awrighty! Halfway there," Speedy sighed, taking a load off. Finally wrapping up playing jigsaw with steps 9h-14z--a massive puzzle consisting of jenga-style slotting and securing pieces into the inner framework of Cy's latest design upgrade for the team's main communications device--Speedy uncrossed his legs and took a break. Mostly because the parts-crate necessary for step 15 was likely still in the car, or buried underneath his messy workspace.
"The last set of parts'll all be canary-yellow, but this box looks like Robin minus that particular bird," he frowned, the remaining red and green parts either obscuring or truly segregated from the last set of necessaries. They'd be done in a jiffy with those, though.
OoC; Also, I think since Kaie's awready outhere makin' her name, we could prolly end off this thread after one more round. Whatchyou guys think? Besides that yo assumed this thread was done since I was in the wind :' D |

The roleplay takes place after the series end of the original Teen Titans animated show, but does not include the movie Trouble in Tokyo. Since then Robin has been on something of a recruiting spree, and many new young heroes have found themselves a home in Jump City as well as Titan Tower.
