Characters: Cherufe (Rig) and Skit (Gaunt) Setting: Late Night Previous Threads: N/A Plot Summary: After being held in police custody for loitering around an abandoned warehouse, Cherufe is released with a warning. While heading back home, he meets an interesting character.
Exiting the police headquarters, he rubbed his wrist gently where the handcuffs previously kept him bound. Cherufe could have easily melted the cuffs from his wrists and launched a fiery excursion to escape the police headquarters. Though, he decided that it had been better this way. He didn’t need the wrath of the Titans just yet, but it may have been an idea to later destroy the police station. The situation just reminded him of the song lyrics,'Even in these chains you can’t stop me!'
Cherufe began to move up the street toward the closest bus stop. He would just fly home, but that would give to some unwanted attention. Gaining attention wasn’t a bad thing, but it would tip off the police that he was more than just a mere human. Though, wearing shades all time of night was just suspicious in itself. Upon getting to the bus stop, he looked up over his shades and realized that the route had ended about an hour prior. He buried his face into his palm and began to walk home. It was a long ways off and Jump was a large metropolitan.
“Bloody pigs! They’ll soon pay for their insolence. Pfft...loiitering my flaming Irish…Ugh! Hey, watch where...whoa! Dude, that's one wicked tail. Well, wicked in a good way. Are you a metahuman too?” he questioned.
Cherufe had seen a lot of weird things in Jump, but this was the first time he had seen a rat of this statue. His first thought was that this creature had to be a metahuman, but he read about certain species from old text that seemed beast like. Maybe this day wasn't that bad after all, he had a few questions he wanted to inquire about. Hopefully, his curiosity wouldn't scare the rat man away.
Skit didn't like taking this route. Going so close to the police precinct made him uncomfortable, considering his work. Still, it wasn't too risky. So far as he knew, there were no leads on his criminal activities yet. That was one of the perks of being a stealth crook in a city of big, flashy supervillains. They made all the noise and attracted all the attention, he could work in the shadows and just rake in the dough nearly risk-free.
It was so worth it, though. There was a great little burrito place right nearby, and Skit had recently discovered a love of burritos. They were one of those luxuries you didn't have when your whole extended family had gone all crazy survivalist on you. And he'd had some productive days and nights recently, he deserved a treat. He walked along, slipping between the people. Skit didn't make too much use of his sturdy frame. Why clash when you could just avoid?
Unfortunately, not everyone had that philosophy. Skit heard the guy muttering before he saw him. His keen ears picked up that old chestnut, "pay for their insolence." That was never a good sign. Then the speaker plowed into him. Skit took a half step back, steadying himself. He even started blaming Skit before getting distracted by his tail. Skit looked up at him from his usual slouch. "Sort of. Kind of a mystical thing." He wasn't annoyed enough to comment on the misplaced blame yet. It seemed like this guy might be the type to throw a tantrum, and he wasn't too keen on that happening tonight.
The fiery teen scratched his hairless chin while thinking about the possible questions he wanted to ask. The rat man did have a sort of mystical look to him, which prodded his curiosity even more. Cherufe really liked mystical beings and things. His years of studying magical and mystical artifacts intrigued him as well. A lot of other things caught his interest as anything that was also considered awkward to the normal populace. The downside of being the medium for black magic was that he couldn’t use basic or even advanced forms of magic outside of his flames. It was something he had mostly come to terms with, but not completely. That was truly the reason for interest in the mystical side of things. Between that and certain artifacts allowed him to use magic outside of his own innate abilities.
“Hmm…mystical you say. I assume you had a pretty interesting life since are mystical. I guess that you and I both are a bit ‘mystical’ then,” he responded. He held up his left pointer finger as a small flame ignited from it. Cherufe blew out the flame from his finger and placed his hand in his pocket. “The name's...Cherufe. So, what brings you to Jump or are you a native? That’s if you don’t mind me asking.”
He wasn’t too sure of what to think of the man sized rodent. Cherufe wasn’t much for general conversation either, but the ‘mystical’ rat held his interest. It wasn’t everyday that you would meet someone of his physique. Though, he wish he could get a hand on a book or something close that detailed more about this interesting individual. The next best thing was to ask questions.
Well, now this guy was trying to build a rapport with him. He supposed that wasn't the worst thing. It could mean that Skit wouldn't be on the hit list if redhead suddenly went postal. Then again, it could mean that he'd be at the top of the list. You could never tell with these weirdos. In the meantime, that meant he was letting some information slip. If Skit was careful, he could tell enough lies or half-truths, or dodge enough questions so he'd have an intel edge on this guy in case he decided to just start rampaging. Maybe he'd be able to handle him, or at least know to run for it.
"I'm from the country, came here looking for work. That, and a change of pace." Now to steer the topic back to Cherufe, that was his name. The thing about these "make them pay" blowhards, they really liked to talk about themselves. Hopefully he could leverage that. "You said you were mystical, what'd you mean?" If he really did have some magic mojo going, that could be trouble. Magic was inherently unpredictable, unless someone was heavily specialized. The more he learned now, the better.
Mystical. It was a very strange thing. Cherufe had been ingrained with abilities at an early age that truly impacted who he became. His powers had gotten him into a lot of trouble, but mostly from "misuse". His powers were stable and couldn't go out of control anymore. Cherufe's parent's had made sure that both him and his sister had proper training. It was take control or be taken control of. Though, Cherufe's case was a bit complex than that of his sister.
"Yeah, mystical. My power is result of ancient magic rituals. The thing many refer to as black magic. I spent many years of training to control it. It is only natural for someone of my talent and lineage to do such a thing. Only downside is that I can't use other forms of magic. The only other thing I can use is magical items," he boasted as he lifted up his right hand. Red flames began to swirl around it. He manipulated the flames in a shape of a square and then released it.
Scratching his chin for a moment, he wasn't too sure what kind of work the Rat-man was looking for. Cherufe thought for a quick moment. before he said anything. "So...work? What kind of work are you looking for? I know some people that may be able to help you out if I let them know. It all depends on your interest. Pay is pretty good regardless," the redhead offered. There was no games or funny business with the jobs he did. There were a large variety of jobs that he could take part in from heist to kidnappings, but he wasn't totally sure he could trust Skit. He knew that the people he would frequently work for would need individuals to complete certain task. He offered because the guy seemed interesting enough. That and Cherufe was curious to see this guys skills, if he had any decent attributes that is. Cherufe was always an "actions speak louder than words" kind of guy.
This guy seemed overly eager to show off his powers, and brag about them. He wasn't the most cautious super out there. Then again, he wasn't the least cautious. It seemed like most supers in this city wanted to showboat as much as humanly possible. Skit had different teachings. He'd always been instructed to hide his abilities unless he needed them, and to lie or dodge the question if asked about them. The less your enemy knew of what you could do, the less able they were to stop it. "Interesting." Skit commented, watching the bright red flames. He wondered how honest this guy was being about his downsides?
Immediately after mentioning his work, Skit regretted it. He should have known this guy wouldn't be much one for subtlety or forward thinking. Was he really trying to hook him up with criminal employers in front of a police station? No wonder he'd gotten caught. Skit deflected the question. "Nah, I got something set up already." That wasn't entirely true. He was doing freelance stuff, pretty steadily, but nothing that could be characterized as "set up." Still, it gave him an excuse to kill that topic before a cop wandered by and overheard too much.
Skit pulled out his phone, checking the time. "Speaking of which, I gotta go. See you around, man." Sure, his only schedule obligation right now was eating a burrito, but Human Torch here didn't have to know that. Skit tucked his hands in his pockets, heading off toward his original destination.
Cherufe felt like the rat dude was trying to be a bit brief. He wasn't too upset about the guy taking off. He lifted up his hand in a two finger salute and waved him off. He wished he could talk to him more, but oh well. Jump was one of those places were you may never see the same person twice. It was a missed opportunity, but he figured that there were other individuals he could get to know. Plus, he needed to get focused on his goal of "liberating" the city of its heroes the Teen Titans.
The redheaded villain shrugged his shoulders briefly and hailed a taxi as one was about to pass. He stepped in and was about to give the driver a location when his phone buzzed. Cherufe then paused for a moment while he checked the message before saying, "Take me to the docks, snappy!" The cab driver nodded his head and speed off. It was a last minute notice, but a job was a job. If it went as the last one did, then it should be a bit exciting. Guarding shipments weren't that much fun. That is until things get a little...hot.

The roleplay takes place after the series end of the original Teen Titans animated show, but does not include the movie Trouble in Tokyo. Since then Robin has been on something of a recruiting spree, and many new young heroes have found themselves a home in Jump City as well as Titan Tower.
