Characters: Raven, Starfire, Beast Boy, Robin, Cyborg, Speedy, otherwise open to Titans in the Tower. Setting: Titans' Tower Common Room Previous Threads: None Plot Summary: The Titans gather at Star's urging to begin Halloween preparations. Meanwhile Raven enjoys being home after so long away.
As she waited for the tea pot to whistle its wonderful whistle, Raven decided that she was happy to be home, and she wasn’t usually happy about much. Not that touring parts of Russia in search of the source of rumors that one of her father’s amulets had turned up as an “artifact” wasn’t fun, but…. Raven was just happy to be home.
And she managed to get home right before one of her favourite times of the year!
Halloween was only a few weeks away and the entire Tower was beginning to buzz with ideas for costumes and candy and creepy things that go bump in the night. Yesterday, Star had proposed that they gather for a brainstorming session and possibly begin making their own costumes and as much as Raven hated group activities and social events, she had to admit…. She wasn’t entirely dreading this one.
In fact, she was looking forward to it, which made her think Russia might have gone to her head just a bit. She was looking forward to hearing Cyborg get overly enthused about all manners of sugary sweet things, seeing Robin’s scowl every time Beast Boy sneakily attempted to put the clown wig on him, feeling Star’s ecstatic energy over all manners of celebration and friendship and girl time. Hell, she was even anticipating having to say no to orchestrating a haunted Tower with something less than her usual irritated blink.
Maybe the “happy to be home” thing would wear off eventually, but until then, Raven was taking full advantage of it.
Removing the operatic tea pot from the stove, Raven set her mug down, dodging just a little bit of blue fuzz that had managed to escape from the refrigerator to thrive on the countertop. She poured herself a mug of tea, settled a spoon on top of the tea bag in the cup to hold it underwater, and wrapped her fingers around the cup like it was an old friend. That was another thing she’d missed. Raven might as well have gone through actual withdrawals for all that she wasn’t able to enjoy her tea in the gloriously cold country of Russia.
She took the mug with her and made her way into the middle of the Common Room. Settling herself on the couch, Raven began her wait for the rest of her teammates to join her for ideas and brainstorms and a Halloween-themed evening.
Aside from the swoosh of the doors there was silence as the leader of the Teen Titans slipped into the common room. It was about the time that Starfire had wanted them all to meet. He'd stopped after he'd finished the last report, deciding that if he reached for another stack he'd end up missing the party. He did not want to have to explain losing time to the demon that was paperwork to Starfire's hurt green eyes. So here he was now. Early. And the silence in the common room seemed as eerie as the upcoming holiday.
He wasn't alone, though. A familiar dark head sitting on the couch caught his attention and a smile slid across his face. It was good to have his teammate back. He cut across the common room to their large u-shaped couch. "Hey Raven," he greeted the girl softly as he came up behind the spot on the couch that had become known as his. It was, not-so-coincidentally, right next to where Starfire usually sat. Bright green gloved hands gripped the back of the couch as he vaulted over it to sit down by his friend.
"Roped into Starfire's Halloween plans, already?" the dark haired boy asked as he leaned back into the cushion still smiling. Raven hadn't been back that long. His mask crinkled with a fondness for their alien princess that there was really no point in hiding from Raven. She'd probably even known before she went into his head, but now she probably also understood his reluctance when it came to the upcoming holiday.
Robin had something of a love-hate relationship with Halloween. As a child, vandals had always used that as an excuse to harass the circus, and when he'd first moved to Gotham each year the holiday set in motion vile schemes from at least one of Batman's rogue gallery. Even in Jump, each year, he braced for trouble. It hadn't come. Yet. But here, with his friends, the holiday was kind of fun too. But if Beast Boy thought he was going to put a clown wig on his head again this year he had another thing coming.

Squeak squeak squeak
The sound of squeaking wheels preceded the swoosh of the opening door. Starfire entered ahead of it impressively carrying an oversized plastic box brimming with supplies above her head with one hand, while Cyborg followed with the mobile whiteboard that made its appearance in many a brainstorming scheme. It still had the faint outlines of comical caricatures of Red X possibilities from the last time they used it. They carted it to a space in front of the coffee table, where Starfire set down her box of wonders and Cyborg parked the whiteboard.
The tall bionic man took his usual spot on the couch, giving Robin an acknowledging nod as he reclined comfortably. Starfire, the host of the activity, remained standing with her beaming smile. She held a bunch of markers in her long-fingered grip; six total with their respective colours of blue, purple, orange, red, green and the standard black. "Hello friends!" she greeted happily. "I am glad you are here for our holiday planning session. It is still a little early, but I think we can begin."
It was a good thing she decided to start, because Starfire was taking the time to title the project using every colour at her disposal in slowly, neatly, and carefully. Her back was turned to them as she spoke out, "T...e...."
TEEN TITANS HALLOWEEN PARTY IDEAS
When that was mercifully over, she stepped back to reveal her handiwork. "Halloween is very much a time of spookiness and dressing up. It has come to my attention that this spoooooky holiday also can be a time of trouble, which is why I believe it is most important to be extra prepared for maximum fun and safety!" she said in her usual, animated fashion.
"For instance!" she said as she pulled out a pirates hat from somewhere within her box, plopping it atop her head. "Costumes! Costumes are a very important part of Halloween, yes? It is also my favourite part: especially when the little adorable children dress up. I am sad we are on an island and the little ones cannot come to do the trick or treat at our home because they might drown." She went from excited to pouting, but she bounced back to her point with a determined look.
"And yet, Cyborg has informed me that it would be very much like Halloween for us to be magically turned into whatever we are wearing. This is very troubling because I had wanted to be a cupcake for Halloween." She took out a magazine full of creative costume ideas and showed them the model wearing an adorable cupcake dress. "I do not wish to become someone's snack!"
This was a very important dilemma and one that Starfire had put a lot of thought into. "Therefore, we must plan carefully what we choose to wear in the event we become our costumes. We should do our best to remain noble and strong, so that we may fight any wickedness that arises."
She wrote COSTUME IDEAS on the whiteboard and turned to face the group. "Any suggestions?"
The moment Robin’s hands were on the back of the couch, Raven put an extra hand on her tea, keeping it steady while he vaulted himself into sitting position. She smirked at him, nodding a greeting. “You know as well as I do that when Star gets fired up about something, there is no saying no…. Plus, I kind of owed her.” She’d left poor Star in the midst of three teenage boys with no female support or “girl time” for far too long.
When Starfire and Cyborg entered the room, the empath smiled without waiting for a reason. She’d really missed her friends, and Starfire’s chipper tone was proof in how it kept the smile on Raven's face instead of making her eye twitch as usual. The only Titan missing was Beast Boy, but he wasn’t exactly known for his punctuality. Starfire took advantage of the early start to make sure the colourful marker on the board made a perfect banner and Raven took advantage of Starfire’s meticulous handwriting skills to finish her tea and set it carefully on the table. Both the tea and the marker finished up around the same time, much to Raven’s satisfaction.
Raven sat back as Star began what sounded like an after-school special speech, discussing both fun and safety, before veering into a rather creative theory that they might magically become their costumes. Raven slid a sideways glance at Cyborg, humour playing at her features, and raised her hand into the air. “Question,” she began. “Does Cyborg have reliable sources for this hunch or are we basing our Halloween decisions on his video-game-inspired imagination?”
OoC: Sorry, guys, gonna take me a minute or two to get back into the habit of remembering I owe posts. XD Silv
OH sweet sleep and laziness could never compare to candy and costumes, and the threat of at last getting diabetes could never deter Logan from gorging himself on fruity sticky drinks and candies. As such having been reminded by the local Tamaranian immigrant aka close friend Starfire of the time of year, and the fact that absolutely no one in the tower could ever say no to Starfire, Beast Boy resolved himself to be at the party planing meeting right on time, rather than his usual tardy-ness would have allowed. Something that would have been easier had he remembered to set his alarm clock. or if it had been plugged in for that matter.
Thankfully, Gar had been exploring the ventilation system in the Tower as of late, and after he had managed to drag himself out of bed, he remembered that the shortest way from his room and into the common room, was via the vents.
Jumping up, Gar turned into a fly and buzzed his way into the vent and then down the air duct towards the nearest air exchange as fast as he could. 'Gee, this is kinda like the trench run from Clash of Planets. Cool!'
Buzzing at top speed, Beast Boy followed the air currents towards the common room, and then paused on the edge of the vent to look down at his friends who were already well into the meeting it seemed. Oh well, next time he would be on time.
Logan crawled out of the vent as the airflow kicked up some, and he picked his landing spot carefully, for maximum flash and showmanship, as Raven shifted and spoke; “Question,” she began. “Does Cyborg have reliable sources for this hunch or are we basing our Halloween decisions on his video-game-inspired imagination?”
Dropping down from the air vent above as a fly, Gar morphed into himself mid fall and landed with more grace than most would have given him credit for, his toes perching on the very edge of the back of the couch as he leaned over and smiled at Raven, his fang like canines poking out slightly as he spoke; "Rae, you dare to question my man Cy's powers of hunches or his infallible sources on the street?" Tumbling forward, Beast Boy flopped to the ground on his butt, and leaned back against the couch, his hands folding up behind his head as he gazed at the whiteboard for a moment, then shook his head; "But really unless Mumbo or Puppet King gets out of lock down again in time for Halloween, should we even worry about it?"
OoC; I'm sorry in advance ahah. Missed you guys, though! |
The only dressed up part of his ensemble was the classic helmet of gel styled on top of his head.
As the jocular lunk he was, the East archer had no qualms about arriving to this meeting freshly showered, with but a towel tied about his middle and a heather gray tank slung uselessly over his 'Lionpride' fragrant shoulders. After slinking past the whiteboard and winking at the enthused Tamaranean (and in direct consequence of gaze projection, at poor Cyborg), he froze for the merest of moments, before a slow smile grew in place of flicker of uncertainty at the tea-toting empath's presence. And the fact that her hood was lowered.
They hadn't exactly gotten off on the friendliest of feet so far.
Speedy was willing to put that behind him, if she was. Regardless of the entire problem being his horrible first (and second, and third..) impression. Soon to be following, fourth.
Since being called in from his original team to help bolster the leadership in the face of new recruits here in Jump's team, Speedy hadn't built up much of a rapport with the newer Titans, but he'd just gotten off a sweaty patrol, and felt one of his customary fake-outs in order towards the core team; intruding between two of the mains pleasant and quiet greetings by man-spreading gratuitously, it was thankfully revealed he had some royal purple athletic shorts sparing the eyesight of all gathered. Beast Boy did not escape his reach, and the hilarious little troublemaker got his fair share of attention too, the equally troublesome transfer Titan greeting green spiky hair with disruptive noogies.
"If that didn't scare anybody, count me out for ideas," he grinned impishly, now crossing his legs at the knee and stretching his arms over the backrests, and coincidentally, Robin and Raven's shoulders the both. Fingerless-gloves-less fingers brushing the female of the caped-shoulders, he backed off immediately, the offending fingers now fiddling with his hair, momentarily distracted from the adorably colourful and festive idea-splat on the whiteboard by his glossy reflection in the siding of Raven's mug instead.
"About catering to the kids...what if we held any event off-campus, so to speak?"
He'd heard there was going to be an informal sit-down about their FrightNight plans, and while the BB-Cyborg team highly outclassed him in pranks, Hallowe'en went about a mile beyond typical practical joking procedure.
And they were on costumes at the moment, not freaking people out, just yet.
"Get out into the community, hold some kind of 'Haunted Tower' event? But be ready with gear on-hand or near enough by that whatever costuming we get up to during the event, we're still ready to go should one of those jerks--" here, he nodded over at Beast Boy for his musings on Mumbo et al crashing the party, "--or others decide to take the festivities down a dark cave."
But he got to freaking people out pretty quick.
"Setting somat like that up'd be a breeze with this one's reliable knack for the macabre," here nodding back to his reflection in the mug Raven*. Was that supposed to be a compliment? It sure didn't help he had no delicacy as to the fact the resident empath probably didn't want her abilities to be used like a glorified fog machine.
Speedy was here to study as much as brainstorm, as well as assess the dynamics of the core 5 from a highly invested first-person perspective.
The Titan leader nodded at Raven's explanation, and watched with mild interest as Cyborg and Starfire arrived with a box and their planning whiteboard. He grinned at the greeting, offering a "Hey," in response to both his friends as Starfire decided they could begin. This probably wouldn't be like Batman's Halloween briefs, but he found himself suddenly dreading it as his teammate began the slow process of titling the board. His masked eyes winced closed as he watched Starfire squeak markers across the board in painfully slow, but perfect, lettering.
When she began to speak again the Boy Wonder opened his masked eyes to study her. Starfire was adorable when she was animated about a topic, and he was more than content to listen to her ramble on about the merits of safe and fun holidays for the rest of the night. Thankfully she didn't, and they were left with the first great question of their holiday plannings: costumes and whether or not they'd turn in to whatever they dressed up as.
Robin had to agree with Raven, even as Beast Boy dropped out of the ventilation system to defend his friend. The dark haired boy's masked eyes narrowed at the idea that Cyborg had picked up this intel and hadn't passed it along to him. His glare slid from the changeling to the cybernetic teenager sitting on the couch. "Depends on what Cyborg's "infallible street sources" said," Robin replied to the open ended query with his own sarcastic air quotes as Speedy dropped down on the couch next to him. He didn't care much beyond noting the reassuring flash of purple and launched into his explanation since Speedy was out of better ideas.
"It's Halloween. Any sort of crazy-" a narrowed glare was sent to the Titan who'd thought it was a good idea to come to the meeting wearing a towel before going back to the group at large, "-could come out of the woodwork. Even ones we've never encountered before. We need to be ready for anything," he paused, glancing at Starfire with a validating smile. "Even turning into whatever we dress up as. So, maybe something heroic? Like knights?" he asked sticking rigidly to the topic that his beloved Starfire had initiated that was written on the board.
Speedy's ideas about involving the community were good, if marginally on the wrong topic, and Robin found himself nodding even as he narrowed his eyes at the arm behind his head that he'd only noticed when the redhead started talking again. He tilted his head back to stab at a pasty, freckled arm with his spiky head, before straightening once more to speak.
"Having a party at the tower would be a security nightmare," he shared a significant glance from Speedy to Cyborg who happened in be in charge of all of that, "even aside from drowning dangers." The dark haired boy glanced again at the red headed princess. "A cave might work..." but the only one that came to mind was Terra's and he found his masked gaze lingering on Beast Boy. That wouldn't be fair to him. Not with her sudden disappearance so fresh. "Maybe we could ask around and see if there are any community Halloween events that could use our presence."
Both to keep people safe, and because they were so awesome they were invited to all the parties.

Beastboy falling from the ceiling vent took Cyborg and Starfire by surprise, and both jumped visibly in their own way. Once the shock passed, they were glad to see him; especially Cyborg as the green lean bean machine came to his defense. "Of course they're credible! I happened to get them from a reputable vampire hunter," he said with a sniff.
"Yes, this Buffy sounds most reliable," Starfire agreed. That was about when Speedy came in all towel-clad and not much else. For the Tamaranean, the sight of him wasn't anything startling. She merely smiled and greeted him as if there was nothing out of the ordinary. Cyborg, on the other hand, did a double-take and then shifted away slightly.
Robin tried to get the conversation back on track, to which Starfire flashed a tender smile his way and locked eyes as though he were the only boy in the world. At the word heroic, a light-bulb went off over her head. She held the thought as Speedy brought up some excellent suggestions, to which Robin also replied.
She turned her back to jot down some of what was said, making a separate heading for PARTY and a subheading after that for 'PLACE'. Cave and community were listed.
Star capped the marker and faced them again. "I am sure we will come up with something wonderful. I would very much like to have a party in the city, whether we are hosting our own or invited." Setting that aside for the moment, she launched back to her original point.
"Now, what if... we had two costumes instead of one?" she asked, her eyes sweeping across them to gauge their reactions. "I am thinking we can be anything for Halloween, but underneath we are heroes in disguise! Made up heroes. For example--" she said, and of course used looked at Robin who would be her subject. "You could be a knight, or a ghost, or anything, but when trouble strikes you remove your costume to reveal... um..." She needed to make up an alias on the fly--something that suited him, but was not real (or else it wouldn't be a costume). The only other alias she knew for him was Nightwing, so she snapped her fingers and said, "Wingman!"
Cyborg burst out laughing. "Oh, absolutely, Robin should be a wingman for us this Halloween: a hero for a bro in need." He cast a teasing gaze his way.

The roleplay takes place after the series end of the original Teen Titans animated show, but does not include the movie Trouble in Tokyo. Since then Robin has been on something of a recruiting spree, and many new young heroes have found themselves a home in Jump City as well as Titan Tower.
