Running...
That was all the girl was good at it seemed. The girl had just turned seventeen a few weeks ago and although her body had grown in years, she had celebrated nothing.
Her body was flat as a board with a boyish look to it and her red haori and tattered white pants did nothing to express any feminine features. Her eyes were big, brown and full of fear as she dashed down the hillside to the city limits of Jump City.
The familiar town flooded her with both good and bad memories. Catching a soft breeze, a newspaper fluttered in front of the short girl and she used both hands to catch it lightly in midair.
TEEN TITANS SAVE CITY: MUMBO JUMBO JUMBO'S MAGIC
Pfft, magic does not exist. And what name is this Mumbo Jumbo? Sounds stupid if you ask me.
But then, nobody asked you, little girlie.
. . .
The picture of the long nosed man was not what drew the bookworm to read the article, but the superheroine and heros that assisted in the capture of the tophat and domino mask wearing magic wielder.
The more she skimmed the article, the more she read the past accomplishments of the "Teen Titans" and the more she learned from this one article, the more she was transfixed. She wanted to meet them, if only to observe their experience. What made such young teens so capable of fighting? So capable of controlling their powers.
A name stuck out to her, Robin. As the protege of Batman, he was practically famous. If he was leading the group of misfit teenagers, then it would take more than simple force or words to get him to divulge his secrets. She was not prepared to make such a move in which she would be forced to reveal her own secrets. Maybe she could lie. Or maybe an outside source knew everything.
The cat girl, known to most as Sapphire (if one could ever obtain her name), started walking in the main of the city when an explosion was felt over the sidewalk. It knocked her to the ground and she silently rolled backwards as a taxi rained down on her. Narrowly escaping, she caught sight of a man who could duplicate himself, and another who was five times her size. Pink energy beams cracked holes in the dirt and a giant eye flew over in patrol.
Definitely not how I remember things.
Use those powers, girlie.
No! I will not!
The arguing nearly continued except it was then that a huge smoke cloud overtook the city. Coughing, Sapphire realized she had no idea where it came from. But whatever was happening would change her life somehow.
