The End For Us [An Evil Sapphire Saga]

(this is the part of the story were Sapphire has truly accepted evil. I wanted it to be a separate thread because I like being able to rp her as the good guy and I also love making her the bad guy. this is a plot I was messing around with in a one on one I did set when Slade and Sapphire take control. the titans are currently hiding out.)

Jump City had never seemed this gray to her, always full of people and life. she had enjoyed herself but everyone needed to graduate to bigger and better things. it was human nature. but she wasn't human. she was a little different.

one day she had grown sick of how slow her progress was moving in Titans Tower. they all said, "one more day, Sapphire!"
her reply was "one more day will never come." and she had threw her hair clip and bracelet to the ground and fled. these were symbols of her betrayal. these actions were to tell the titans that she was finished using her powers to help the unhelpable. the citizens called her a monster.

"heh, it's not like they're wrong." she laughed to herself. unlike Terra, Sapphire always had the belief that a great evil lurked inside her. wind could cool off, water could put out flames and gave people a drink, earth provided shelter and fire...? fire was the worst element to be in "control" of. not that she had any control. she began thinking back to when she first met Slade.

it couldn't have been more than a few days since the horrible incident at the park. Sapphire had been patrolling the city, or so she said. really it was the outdoors that made her feel safe. the outdoors was big and could naturally get rid of her flames. plus nobody talking to her, she could keep a better lock on her emotions.

Slade had disguised himself as a karate master and invited her in to spar. he knew her love of fighting would make her go in and fight her. when he had defeated her, he locked the door and began to speak with.

"everywhere you go you have so much potential. and everywhere you go you always wind up with nothing. that is what you are. a nothing. I know what happened in the park. I know everything about you. what you like, what you can do, everything. the Titans want you to stay so they can bring you in to those cops you've been fleeing." Slade watched the girls realization take place. he smirked in his mask as she began to doubt her friends. maybe Beast Boy told Robin. maybe he never guessed at all!

"wha-what..?" Sapphire stuttered out, "wha-what is the point of this?!" she was defianted and Slade chuckled as he realized that she was indeed feisty. she would however need very little convincing. her deepest desire was to find someone who could teach her how to control her powers. and Slade had been awarded a demon's fire once before.

"you want to learn to control your powers, that is your dream. I can help you. all you have to do is join me. trust in me, and your friends will see you at your best." he knew how to play to someones wants, what made them tick. and she was definitely about to tick for him. "it's okay child, you need not make your decision now. and then he vanished and the locks undid themselves.

and she thought it was all a dream....

she knew know how real it was. yet she could not shake that somehow, someway the Titans were still out there.

Wow only been in Jump for a few weeks now and already some nut job is threatening to destroy the entire city. Of all the alternate dimensions to poof to why did it have to be this one and why now that it’s being destroyed by a freak in a mask and his little psychotic fire girl apprentice? Of course I would poof here now that it’s being destroyed, the universe seems to enjoy spewing cruel irony my way, so I just might as well get used to it.

Funny, it seems like only yesterday when I was starting to get used to my new life here in the good ‘ole city of Jump! Since my…initial arrest the police seemed to not think me a big enough threat to actively go out of their way looking for me, but that never meant I was safe. There was always the threat of the Westsiders, one of Jump City’s gangs. Still, I knew how to deal with them. I knew more than enough about them to keep them at bay.

In fact, it really was only yesterday when I paid a visit to Jump City’s gym to work out and hone my Kung Fu skills. I didn’t go as Reflecto I went as myself. However, during that same day I noticed a little something about myself, something…different. Either I was going crazy and nearsighted or I was starting to look…younger. I looked…twenty instead of my actual age of thirty. But, I just sort of shrugged it off. It was strange sure, but I didn’t think it life threatening. And besides, it’s kind of nice to look younger. Still, bad thing is nobody will recognize me. Well, actually it’s only bad if someone I like doesn’t recognize me, but already I have made many enemies here in Jump! So in that way it is a good thing no one can recognize me.

Prior to the man in the mask and the crazy fire girl take over I was just minding my own business enjoying some fine wine when the gruesome attacks happened. I was one of the first ‘civilians’ to take notice. I and a few others took cover beneath our patio tables. (I was drinking wine outside at the time). Glancing up I saw her (Sapphire) and I dared look her in the eye. I saw nothing, nothing but sheer, unadulterated evil in those eyes of hers. It took much of my will power to force myself to stay down. I really wanted to change into my Reflecto costume; which I had on me inside of my briefcase, and fight her for daring to cause harm to my new home. Yes, I had accepted Jump City as my home now as I had no idea how to return to my universe. But, judging by her great power I didn’t think I could take her out all on my own. I would need help to do that. Then a thought occurred: the Teen Titans! They could help, but where were they? Did they not realize the city is being destroyed by a couple of psychos? Of course I didn’t know what they looked like as I never met them, but I have heard of them.

And now somehow to top it all off I managed to get trapped inside a burning building and not only that, but I was stuck inside of a stupid closet. Why was I in there? I have no idea. How do I get myself into these situations again? “Help!” I called out just hoping someone was nearby and could hear me. “Someone help! Anyone? I’m trapped inside this closet thing and can’t seem to get out! The stupid door is jammed!” I continued to yell as I gritted my teeth trying to push the door open. How embarrassing! The former Night Watcher getting himself stuck inside of a closet with a fire going on just outside the door! Still, it could happen to anyone, right? Right? Feeling desperate I start pounding loudly at the door hoping someone will hear.

Somewhere in the deep recesses of his mind, Beast Boy was praying that this was all just a sick dream. A nightmare gone wrong.

However, pinching himself until a welt formed on his green skin didn't change anything. Fire was bringing Jump City to its knees, and there weren't enough firefighters or Aqualads to make any serious difference.

He ran the scene over again and again in his mind, hopelessly wondering if he was merely hallucinating and it wasn't Sapphire whom he had seen by Slade's side, a wicked fire in her eyes as she mercilessly attacked the team that had taken her under their wing.

Beast Boy had known that Sapphire was getting frustrated with her training. He was always there to encourage her, to tell her that she was making progress and she just couldn't see it. Raven and the other Titans had been doing their utmost to help her get her powers under control, but the pace had been too slow, the progress too little. He knew he should have seen the signs when she threw her hair clip and the bracelet he had given her at his feet and stormed off. He had picked them up and stared after the girl like a hapless puppy. He had tried going after her, but one of the Titans held him back and said that she probably needed some space. Beast Boy knew he was being lied to, that Sapphire might never come back, but he obeyed and merely watched as the girl he had come to know and appreciate fled before his eyes.

The changeling had patrolled the city several times after that day, looking for a sign of Sapphire's whereabouts. However, he had found nothing, and began to believe she had fled the city, never to return. It was only a few days after his last patrol, however, when the fires started.

The Titans had rushed in to help, for it was quickly becoming something the city's firefighters were unable to handle. No one was more surprised than Beast Boy when the culprit turned out to be Slade. And who was to be found at his side but Sapphire.

Instant pain and betrayal hit the changeling like a load of bricks. He refused to believe what he was seeing for a while, merely shaking his head and and muttering his denial before one of his teammates dragged him out of harm's way.

So sudden and unexpected was the attack, it forced the Titans to scatter. Beast Boy had been separated from the rest of the team during the chaos; the sight of people screaming and fleeing from the fires had been enough to slap him back to his senses. He did the best he could to herd civilians to safety, all the while fighting the keep the growing lump in his throat from escaping. Allowing his pain to overwhelm him at the time like this would only spell disaster. He was unable to contact the Titans, for his communicator had been broken in the initial flee to safety. He didn't dare return to the Tower either, for fear of what he might find there.

He had shown what he believed to be the last person in a burning restaurant to safety when he heard muffled cries coming from deeper within the building. Ignoring the intense heat, Beast Boy meandered through the flaming chaos until he came in sight of a door that, miraculously, hadn't caught on fire yet. A pillar had fallen in front of the closet door, preventing whoever was inside from coming out.

Acting quickly, Beast Boy shifted into the muscular form of a gorilla and, with a grunt, managed to heave the flaming obstruction aside without too much damage to his hands. Reverting to his human form so as not to startle the man inside, he whipped open the door and came face to face with not a man, but a boy that appeared to be a few years his senior. The deep voice had deceived the changeling into thinking the boy was older than he really was; little did he know the irony of the situation.

"Come on, let's get out of here!" Beast Boy barked, beginning to lead the way out of the building that was crumbling to the ground.

Giving the green boy a nod I started to follow him out. I was too excited by the fact that my rescuer’s skin color happened to be my favorite color to be embarrassed by the fact that I was being saved by a mere kid. That and I am just grateful that someone was around. As I followed him out I proceeded to thank him. “Thanks for the save kid! Might have been a goner had you not showed up when you did. By the way have you any idea what’s going on here? I know there’s a girl out there burning the city, but one has to wonder what drove her to commit such an atrocity! I’m not blaming or accusing you of anything. I know not all super powered people are evil. I’m just thinking out loud here of why some people want to do horrible things like this, that’s all,” I said with a small, reassuring smile, revealing to Beast Boy that I could tell that he has powers of some kind. I just didn’t know what they were yet, but I had a feeling I was about to find out. After all, his skin is freakin’ green! I’m sure there had to be a reason for it and I just assumed it had something to do with his powers. Maybe he was a plant manipulator…? “Now I know this isn’t the best place for introductions or anything, but the name’s Flash. What’s yours?” I asked as I continued to follow, dodging falling debris as I went. Being light on my feet it was pretty easy to do. But, I was careful not to reveal too much of my abilities. After all, I didn’t even know this kid. Sure, he ‘saved’ me, but for all I knew he could be leading me to a trap. Who knows maybe he works for the guy in the mask too…? Regardless, I wasn’t going to take chances. As soon as we flee the city I was going to go my own way. Little did I know that the green kid was part of the Teen Titans and that they desired to not flee, but save the city. I couldn’t have known this because I was the kind of person who didn’t like getting involved in matters that didn’t concern me. Still, Jump City was my home now and this girl (Sapphire) was threatening it and if I could find a way to help stop her I would or at least try to.

A large piece of floorboard from the above room started to fall down towards the top of my head forcing me to speed up. I heard the loud sound the impact of the floorboard made once it hit the ground and whirled around just in time to watch it continue to drop towards the bottom floor. I laughed nervously. “It’s too bad neither one of us can fly, huh?” I told him unaware of the irony of my statement.

Beast Boy tried not to tune his rescuee's voice out, but it was hard when he was dodging random bits of falling debris and at the same time dealing with the fresh dose of betrayal he had just been doled. Plus, it didn't help that the teen (who was really an adult) was villainizing Sapphire. True, he didn't know the whole situation and had every right to believe the fire wielder was a crazy evil chick, but it still took a tremendous effort for the changeling not to turn around in the middle of the flaming building and chew him out for speaking about Sapphire that way. As it was, some of his angst managed to make it out anyways.

"It's not her fault! The masked man, Slade, is making her do this," Beast Boy retorted over the roar of the flames, which was beginning to make his skin itch under his Doom Patrol suit. This retort was said with little vigor, however, more of a weak self denial than a vehement defense of Sapphire's moral intentions. She certainly hadn't looked like she was doing anything she didn't want to when she was blasting the Titans into oblivion.

Glad the boy, who suddenly decided to introduce himself as Flash while dodging falling pieces of the burning building--he certainly had quite the timing--had changed the subject, the changeling managed to respond with, "I'm Beast Boy. I'm with the Teen Titans!" before a fit of coughing stopped whatever he was going to say next. The thick, acrid smoke was beginning to get to him; they had to move quickly. It was a good thing Flash was nimble on his feet, for Beast Boy was too occupied trying to find the best way out to trouble himself with keeping his charge safe. He also didn't bother to ask how Flash didn't know who he was, yet knew he had a superpower of some sort; he chalked it up to the green skin.

It was unexpectedly his talkative companion who naively suggested an appropriate manner of escape. The stairs were too far away, and probably blocked by the falling debris; elevators were out of the question. "I can fly!" Beast Boy declared, spotting a section of the wall that wasn't yet on fire. Shifting into, not a bird but rather a green rhinoceros, he charged the wall. It crumbled under the force of his charge, and the fact that the building was already coming down helped as well. Reverting to his human form, the changeling muttered a quick, "Don't be scared," as his only warning before shifting into a pteranodon and gripping Flash with his talons before zipping out of the crumbling building. Flying low and fast, Beast Boy only went far enough away from the worst of the fires before setting down his charge and morphing back to his human self.

"Are you alright?" he asked, senses on the alert in case his flying green self had been discovered by Sapphire or Slade.

Raven ducked back behind a burning wall, breathing heavily and leaning her head back against the bricks. This was insanity! This was history repeating itself all over again! How could they have been so ignorant, so incredibly stupid? This was Terra reincarnate....

Sapphire had snapped, and she should've seen it. They all should've seen it, but Raven had been giving her private lessons, and she was an empath.... How did it get past her? How many times could one make the mistake of trusting a villain?

And Beast Boy.... Raven's heart broke for him, having had his own heart shattered twice in the same way.... Someone he obviously cared for, and she'd betrayed his trust. Raven wondered how he was handling this, but no one had seen him since the attacks began and he was separated from the team.

That was, in fact, why Raven was out in this firestorm to begin with. To find Beast Boy. She and Robin had speculated using her soul self to search for their lost friend, but in the event of an attack, that left her body lifeless and it took way too long to call her back.... So she was out here in the physical sense, looking up and down streets, along alleyways, in the rubble of various smoldering buildings, hoping for a sign of Beast Boy, any sign at all....

And glancing to the side, she got one. Her heart gave a little jump as she recognized a green dinosaur, flying low to the street, past her range of vision. He wasn't dead.... She breathed out in relief, closed her eyes for a moment. He wasn't dead. He wasn't. She'd been so sure that....

Ah, there'd be time for the touching stuff later.

Raven rolled away from the wall into a crouch, gazing out into the street, making sure the coast was clear before she slid out of hiding, gliding from shadow to shadow, in the direction she'd seen her friend take.

"Beast Boy?" she called softly as she got close. "You there?"

I could not help feeling a bit…surprised by the green one’s choice of words. Not evil…? How is that even possible? After all there she was helping the man in the mask now revealed to him as Slade destroy the entire city and thus far she did not seem to want to stop. Him being upset did not stop me from speaking my mind even though I could sense there was something…going on between him and the fire girl. “Are you joking? Have you looked out a window lately? She’s destroying everything in her path! At this rate the whole city will be little more than one big pile of rubble and it’s all her and Slade’s fault!” I cried angrily. I, admittedly was upset and I knew I sounded harsh and somewhat unfair, but I just couldn’t stand hearing him making excuses for Sapphire. “And you’re wrong! Nobody can force you to do something you don’t want to. Nobody. In the end it was all her choice. She could have stopped long ago had she truly wanted,” I passionately added. Okay, so maybe I am wrong to question all this when in truth I have no idea what’s really going on here nor did I know who this Slade was. Though I’d like to. Letting out a sigh I frowned at Beast Boy. “Who is he anyway? Slade I mean… What’s his deal? Why does he want to destroy this city so badly? Does he have a grudge against it? Did the people of Jump wrong him in some way?” I questioned, curious. I didn’t mean to be so inquisitive, but I’d really like to know more of what’s going on.

Then the green kid introduced himself as Beast Boy and I smiled. I tried to say something else, but the smoke was really starting to get to me too. I began to cough up a storm. ‘I can fly,’ I heard Beast Boy say. My bright yellow eyes blinked in confusion. “Say what now?” I asked. But I didn’t have long to wait for a response for Beast Boy did something I did not expect: he actually transformed into a green rhino. In all honesty I was quite startled by this and I jumped back a few feet. My eyes widened with surprise and then when I finally calmed down enough I watched sad green rhino with amazement as it knocked down a wall. “Oh…wow,” I said, impressed. Sure the fire all around helped the beast knock down the wall, but the fact that Beast Boy was the rhino himself was just plain awesome all on its own. “That…was the coolest thing I have ever seen,” I added, already impressed by his ability to change form. Well, I was wrong in my initial guess. Definitely not a plant manipulator. Still way cool though.

Then he warned me not to be scared. Quite sure of myself I gave an amused laugh. “Me? Scared? Pssh, of what?” I asked in between coughs. If this kid planned on flying them out of there he better hurry because in about another minute or two I might pass out from all this terrible smoke. But, I didn’t have long to wait for a response for in another second the green humanoid had transformed yet again. This time into a large flying dinosaur. Okay, this is weird, I thought as I felt myself being lifted up high into the air by the large green beast. Opening my yellow eyes I saw that he was carrying my by his talons. At this point I wasn’t sure if I was going to faint or scream in sheer excitement. After all, it wasn’t everyday you got to fly by way of a prehistoric pteranodon. But, I knew better than to do that. I kept my mouth shut knowing full well that even the smallest noise would give them away to Sapphire and this Slade freak! The moment the pteranodon set me down I felt much better for there was hardly any smoke in this area, so I wasn’t coughing as much. After I had caught my breath I looked at him with gratitude. “Thanks for the save.” At his concern I nodded while giving one last cough. “I should be,” I told him simply. “But,” I said, gazing around, “shouldn’t we evacuate?”

And then I heard a voice. A female one, one unfamiliar to me and from the sound of it she was looking for Beast Boy. I looked at Beast Boy almost quizzedly. I wondered if he could hear her too… No, he had to have. After all, he can turn into animals, so surely he has enhanced hearing too. “Beast Boy…” I whispered in a worried manner, “someone is coming this way. Is…is she a friend? Do you know her?” My yellow eyes started to naturally glow against the darkness of the place in which we landed; which certainly was not a good thing for should their enemies see the bright light... But I couldn’t help it and it’s not as if I can just turn my eyes off. They always glow in the dark. Always. But in case the changeling did not notice I decided to play dumb and act as though nothing unusual was happening to me.

her earpiece began to shriek loudly, with a sound that she was positive Beast Boy could hear, if he was.... no. Slade really thought they were gone. and Sapphire should know, she had been the one to personally attack them. she hadn't shown any mercy, had she? it had been a couple of days and she forgot how she initially attacked them.

so why did she still think the Titans were alive? maybe it was from all the crime stories they told her. they had been in situations like this before (in fact this was a mirror image of one) and they had obviously survived. Slade's stone cold voice broke her out of her semi-idle thoughts.

"Apprentice...." he alway reminded her of her place in his eyes. according to him, she was still a nothing, "I know how crafty the Teen Titans can be. my task is for you to patrol the city, and unlike Terra, MAKE SURE THEY'RE REALLY GONE!"

she clutched her right ear in pain at his anger. she knew this story well. Terra was sent to eliminate the Titans and they came back and led to Slade's defeat. the green runt helped Terra to betray Slade and he was caught off guard.

but not this time....

just as he finished giving her the orders, a thrash was heard. using her star made of fire platform, Sapphire flew above the building, in time to catch a green pterodon and a young adult male trying to make their way to safety. if they heard the loud, shriek of her earpiece, they had yet to show it.

she smirked. a Titan had been spotted.

"the beast has been spotted. I will now take him down along with some random man he has with him. after he is detained, I shall await further instruction." to Slade she sounded absolutely heartless and ready to kill the friend she had come to love, at the drop of a hat. however, she didn't want to kill him. she hoped Slade would let her keep him as a pet.

she dove down, the speed making everything near her set on fire. landing in front of Beast Boy, all she could do was laugh. laugh insanely and look even more like her master. but she made no attempt to hurt Beast Boy. love was strange, wasn't it?

Beast Boy had stopped in a dark side street, out of any immediate view of a certain fire wielder should she be searching for him. If she had managed to notice him flying through the streets as a giant green dinosaur, however, they were screwed. By now, he had given up trying to convince Flash that Sapphire wasn't a crazy, demonic fire witch bent on destroying the city. He was entitled to his own opinion, no matter how much it stung the little green bean, and there was little evidence to refute the matter anyways.

He was peering around the corner, on the lookout for any threat, while Flash was mentioning evacuating the city. Beast Boy had thought he'd heard the shriek of an earpiece while he was in the form of a pteranodon, but he wasn't sure if he was being paranoid or not. He turned to look at Flash, his eyes narrowing slightly when he looked upon the young man's face. In the dim light of the alleyway, his eyes were glowing like a cat's would. In the back of his mind, the changeling wondered if Flash possessed some sort of metahuman ability. Yellow, glowing eyes were certainly a sign of someone out of the ordinary at least.

"I can show you the quickest way out of the city, but I'm staying here. It's my duty as a Titan to protect Jump City from evil," he replied somberly, unusually heroic-sounding in the dire situation.

Flash mentioned hearing a voice just as Beast Boy heard it. It was soft, female, and amazingly familiar. Pointy ears twitching, he whipped around to see Raven gliding through the shadows towards him.

"Raven! Am I glad to see you," Beast Boy yelped, almost forgetting to keep his voice down. He quickly said, "This is Raven. She's another Titan," to Flash, to ease any suspicions the young man may have about the Azarathian. The changeling turned to Raven, a million questions in his wide green eyes.

"Is the rest of the team alright? Where are you guys? Has the Tower been hit?"

Beast Boy didn't get the answers to those questions, however, as a fiery nightmare descended upon them. His eyes widened at the fearsome sight of Sapphire landing in front of him, laughing maniacally. Surprise was the main emotion registered on the changeling's face, but there were a million other feelings pulsing through his body. For a moment he was frozen in place, his mind uncertain of whether it should follow the instinct to fight or to flee. Eventually, he figured retreat was the best option; he had been on the run for a while, and was more tired than he cared to admit.

"Raven..." he muttered uncertainly, hoping his teammate would take the hint and transport them to safety.

Raven's eyes lit up upon seeing Beast Boy, which for her was the equivilent of a warm and touching embrace. She moved the rest of the way out of the main street, sliding into the sidestreet beside her lost teammate and the strange man with the glowing eyes.

After giving the stranger a once over, she dismissed him as an immediate threat (Mostly because he was keeping company with Beast Boy) and turned to face the little green bean. She opened her mouth, the words "Yes, we're fine," hovering on her lips, but she got no chance to say them before Sapphire made a rather firey entrance, laughing like a crazy person and resembling Slade now more than ever.

Raven raised her fists in anticipation of the coming fight, but Beast Boy seemed to have other ideas. The way he muttered her name, so tired, worn out, uncharacteristic, gave her pause. Perhaps a fight was not a good idea. Not before knowing who's side the glowing-eyed stranger was on, not while Beast Boy appeared so run down. Not while Sapphrie may very well have access to Slade's own treasure trove of power.... Perhaps flight was a better option then.

Her arms still raised, Raven let her soul-self free, and it enveloped both Beast Boy and the glowing-eyed stranger. Though she was a little reluctant on the latter, she remembered that her first sight of Beast Boy had been of him saving this man, and she was trusting his instinct. With a strangled look at Sapphire, Raven tore the three of them from time, sliding carefree through black dimensions, and ending up in a small underground room miles below the city.

She released the two guys from her powers, and straightened up, coming back to herself and casting a quick gaze around to make sure they were still safe here. They were.

"This is a storage room for a long-forgotten underground construction project," she said matter-of-factly. "It is the Titans' headquarters now. The Tower is out of the question."

But why the Tower was out of the question, Raven failed to mention. Whether it was burning, whether it was too obvious, whether is was no longer safe or just no longer there, she didn't bother to clarify.

"We'll have to find Robin, let him know you're aliv-- That I found you." She hesitated, then looked towards the single door to the dimly lit room. "The others should be around here somewhere...." Then she fixed her eyes on the stranger. "And who, praytell, are you?"

she went from psychotic to surprised in t-minus ten seconds. where there are two Titans there are definitely more, as she learned from fighting by their side. they were never truly gone.

"Master, I lost them!" she heard the earpiece shriek louder than before. "unacceptable! Apprentice, you will pursue them! you will finish them!"

"Rae-Rae used her soul self. they could be anywhere!" it was probably a bad idea to protest him. she knew the consequence by now. "then you will look everywhere!" he shouted, then used her stomach armor to punch her in the gut. she collapsed in a heap on the ground, her body too exhausted to move. she didn't realize how hard Slade had been pushing her.

"you will leave no stone unturned, no building standing. kill anyone you meet. am I making myself clear?"
"crystal, Master." inwardly however she was slightly confused of his motives. why did Slade want control of the city when there was no people there. then a chilling sentence greeted her.
"if you cannot accomplish this task, you are as good as dead to me." she was now quite frightened by her master. now she had no choice but to bring them all down.

even Beast Boy...

she turned her earpiece off so she could still hear orders but so that Slade couldn't hear her. she curled her legs to her chest and began to sob. see her at her best? her friends were either going to die or watch her die. she grabbed the communicator she had kept and decided to call for their help. at least if they killed her it was because she was too strong. it was because she needed to be removed for others safety. not because she was useless or messed up a mission.

they had tried to help her after she almost destroyed the city. they still liked her. Slade wanted her powers to help him take over. he was going to get rid of her regardless.

she synced her communicator back online, then choked out... "Sapphire calling anyone... I need help...!"

Watching Beast Boy peer around the building I nodded though I wished he wasn’t so brave. He would surely die unless he evacuates along with me. Well, that’s what I thought anyway. Even with the boy’s amazing shapeshifting abilities he was no match for the fire welder or so I assumed. Regardless, why did I care so much for someone I had just met? Was it simply because he saved me or was there a far deeper reason to want to protect the young changeling from harm? “Beast Boy, maybe…maybe you should come with me? We could go somewhere far from here where it’s safe. No more crazy ass revolutions! No more wars! No more fighting! So, what do you say?” I offered with a sincere smile. I hope he didn’t find my words creepy because I started to think that I may have worded them wrong. In truth, I was also thinking about how I ran away from my own city’s revolution. I wanted no part of that one, so why should this time be any different? I didn’t know it right then, but I was about to be reminded of…certain old feelings.

At that very moment the source of the strange girl’s voice appeared and Beast Boy luckily was quick enough to introduce her to me as Raven, a member of the Teen Titans. I didn’t have time to introduce himself to the girl however for a second girl appeared in front of us laughing like a crazed maniac (Sapphire). And as soon as I saw her my old feelings returned, the ones I had back when I served alongside the hero, Duplicator. I felt my hands turn into tight fists as I unconsciously fell into my fighting stance. I looked more than ready to attack her, but before I even got the chance the blue cloaked girl, Raven used some sort of intriguing ability I watched her wide eyed as she used what looked like a large shadow raven to transport us to safety. As with Beast Boy’s shapeshifting abilities I was more impressed than frightened. This was probably due to the fact that I’ve been around many heroes before including my partner, so naturally I was used to all such of strange and wonderful powers. My yellow eyes blinked as we landed in a strange new place far below the city’s streets. I let out a soft sneeze. “’scuse me,” I whispered as I took a good look around. I had what one could call a photographic memory and so I can take in new things very easily. This was very likely due to my observational skills. I wanted to memorize the room, inside and out. But before I even had the chance to ask Raven revealed the place as a storage room; which made a lot of sense considering all the junk that was in there with them. At Raven’s sudden inquiry of him I nodded, blushing slightly. “Right, we didn’t exactly have a chance to introduce ourselves back there,” I said, rubbing the back of my neck sheepishly. “The name’s Flash. Flash Mcgavin. You kids got some way cool powers, eh?” I complimented as I introduced myself to her, trying to be friendly. Since the room was dimly lit my eyes continued to glow uncontrollably. I gave a nervous laugh to let them both know I was well aware of my eyes. “Hey, at least we can see down here,” I said in an attempt to make a joke in an effort to take everyone’s mind off the current situation. Obviously, being new I had no idea that Beast Boy was the usual joker of the group.

Beast Boy felt the familiar cold and clammy feeling of Raven's power as it engulfed him and Flash. He barely suppressed a shiver as she transported them to safety. The sensation never ceased to creep him out, though he had stopped mentioning this to Raven a while ago; he knew she didn't like it when he called her creepy.

He shivered and rubbed his arms as they arrived in what Raven described as a long-abandoned storage facility. It was pretty dreary looking, but it was infinitely better than the sewers, which was where the Titans had holed up the last time something like this had happened. His eyes quickly adjusted to the dim lighting, although he still noticed Flash's were glowing uncontrollably. His new companion was proving to be quite the puzzle. He had been trying to convince Beast Boy to evacuate the city one moment, then looked as ready as any Titan when it came to confronting Sapphire the next. It once again made Beast Boy consider the fact that Flash could possess powers of some sort. Maybe he was even a hero, or at least a retired hero. Though he looked a little young to be retired.

The changeling's heart sank to his stomach when Raven said they couldn't return to the Tower. He dreaded over what had happened to the Titans' beloved letter-shaped home, and the fact that Raven didn't dispel any details only made the situation worse. Too tired to contribute much to the conversation, Beast Boy watched as Flash introduced himself to Raven and then tried to make light of the situation with a nervous joke. He had to give the guy some credit for the effort, even if he was in no mood to laugh or crack jokes himself. The green boy gave Flash a halfhearted grin anyways, out of courtesy.

Turning to Raven, Beast Boy said, "I'm sorry for not making contact with you guys earlier. My communicator broke when..." His voice cut off abruptly, not wanting to mention Sapphire's betrayal. For some reason, he thought if he didn't mention it, it didn't occur. A silly notion really, but brains conjured up rather silly things when one was exhausted.

Coughing into his shoulder, he finished, "Well, I fell on it and it broke." It was then that he heard the familiar sound of a communicator going off. Out of instinct he reached for his belt, then remembered that he didn't have a communicator at the moment. It was Raven's that was bleeping, though Beast Boy wasn't sure why. If all the Titans were currently hiding here, what need was there to use their T-Comms?

"Speaking of communicators, it looks like your is going off," Beast Boy pointed out, his gaze traveling to where Raven stored her communicator.

Raven blinked at Flash, looking him over once more, trying to figure him out. He looked normal enough, but those eyes... They suggested something supernatural, or at least power-related, and it made Raven a mite uncomfortable to be in the pressence of someone with unknown abilities. She'd have to keep on eye on this stranger for a little while....

Instead of voicing any of that, though, she nodded once to him. "Well met, Flash McGavin," she said. She paused, and then said, "Yes, we do have some unusual powers. You sorta get used to it in a city like Jump...."

She turned to Beast Boy as he spoke, and a small sadness entered her eyes. "Yeah, that's what we figured," she said in response to the news of his broken communicator. It wasn't the full truth really; the entire team had been surpressing the thought that perhaps the changeling hadn't made it out alive, that perhaps they were one more teammate short.... But he was here, and so those thoughts could rest.

Before she could move on to any other subjects, though, a small but urgent beeping filled the room and Beast Boy pointed out her shreiking communicator. She frowned at it, confused as to who could possibly be calling.... Perhaps one of the honoraries? How far had Slade reached?

Retrieving it from her belt, she flicked it on and Sapphire's pained voice filled the little room.

"Sapphire calling anyone... I need help...!"

Raven glared at the little screen, thoroughly grateful that Cyborg had invented the best possible cloaking device for their communicators after everything that had happened with Brain and The Brotherhood of Evil a little while ago. They couldn't be traced; their hiding place was still safe.

Which meant Raven could answer Sapphire, and she did.

"You realize we're on opposite sides now, right?" she snapped at the little communicator. "Why on earth would you need help from us?"

so it was Raven who responded to her distress call. super. a judgmental Azerathian was just what she needed. not... she supposed it couldn't be helped, she needed someone, anyone. she needed her former team. no matter how much they resented her right now.

"I know Raven... I know." she was letting full blown sobs out now. she didn't care about concealing her emotions right now. she just wanted help. "I didn't realize how wrong this could go until now. I'll send you my coordinates and you can destroy me. no one else will take me... it's the only way out of this. I know Beast Boy can hear me, he was with you after all. I just want you to know I'm so sorry.

moments later, she gave them the coordinates to where she laid and also Slade's secret hideout.
