She seemed to be calming down, that was a relief. Heroes tended to get really peaceful really fast when you reminded them how close they had come to murder. Never mind that he could have survived that anyway, even without the vest, but she had done something that could have killed most people. For a shiny hero, she'd come dangerously close to antihero territory. He knew she could change those cuffs back to knives at any time, so he couldn't quite relax, but it was a step in the right direction.
"Your option is to make me an offer. What can you give me that's worth half a million dollars, plus the risk of evidence getting out?" Of course, it was a trick question. Gaunt had no intention of giving her the money for any reason, but he had to make it seem like he'd made an effort to compromise. If he just said no, she might try to fight him for it. But if they negotiated and she couldn't make a good offer, she would have to choose between leaving him be and attempting an armed robbery. Neither was especially heroic, but one option was downright criminal. With any luck, she would just walk away. He could probably fight her if he had to, but then he would have to choose between killing some superkid or letting her go get backup.
"Remember, this is your problem too. Word of this gets out and you're implicated in four deaths. That's not a great position for a hero to be in, is it?" Reputation was a common weak spot for heroes. They would bend over backwards to protect their rep as flawless do-gooders, hopefully the implied threat of a murder charge would keep her from going overboard.
