Beast Boy nodded and muttered something unintelligible. He wasn't as disappointed as he normally was when Raven refused to do silly things with him. In fact, he was rather used to it. Besides, he empathized with her reasoning; when Terra had first betrayed them, all BB wanted to do was curl up in her room and mourn his loss alone. The fact that Raven had even allowed him to talk to her was a miracle in and of itself.
He chuckled at her past comment, rubbing the back of his neck in an awkward display of meekness. "Hah, thanks Raven. I guess I'll see ya later then."
Waving shyly in farewell, the little green guy turned around and quickly exited Raven's room.
ooc: BB the Oblivous. XD I love it! Sorry if you didn't want it to end Bry, but I couldn't think of anything else. You can catch him and think of something fabulous if you want. x3
OoC; SAMUUU. Just wanna say his "attractive" face could use a smackin' xDDD That was so great lllllol thank you. Almost as good. As THE SINK. Alllmost. |
Speedy rubbed his temples. "Babs, can we not talk about this? I'm shocked we didn't get into a fist-fight back there. I'm not coddling Robin; obviously not; I have you, don't I? But I think he oughta be the first to know what will compromise or lift the burden on his team structure." Speedy was a little business too right now. He didn't turn to look at her, still relishing in the after-glow of her touch though. A hazy smile flitted across his lips when he finally did glance back; noticing she was still looking at him in a cute pout though he whipped his head back around, stifling a chuckle. Batgirl looked almost..jealous of his prioritizing Robin. This was going to be an interesting run with her, wasn't it. He'd have to work on his tact and put her feelings first as much as possible. Pamper his little princess of the sea. "Got it; I'll be down in a second here, Robin!" Speedy perked up a little, wanting to get the work done fast and work on other things of the more personal nature. This was some semblance of teamwork. He was hankering for a good prison-break or hold-up at a bank or such to get the blood pumping for the right reasons again. All this drama was exhausting. The middle of Speedy's room was starting to look like a grossly overgrown anthill compiled by a hoarder. Many of his little treasures and memories were back with Green and Brave though, but the few he'd brought along from Steel City had been among his favourites. Not wanting to let his annoyance at the loss of a few favourite material things get in the way of what was more important now (protecting the friends he wasn't still sure would be considering him as such), the weary archer worked mechanically, human feeling starting to drain back into his body. "Right; I've got you for the heavy-lifting. Leave it to us." He saluted Batgirl smartly, realizing something.
They were being left alone for brief intervals, at least until the transport of materials had been completed. Bringing another one of the panels Robin had dropped off into the room, he scrawled something on one of the few remaining pieces of notebook paper that used to be attached to a haiku journal; it had probably fallen into the ocean or something, he thought sorely. It had contained a lot of his experimental haiku and such, but was mostly Raven-content filled. Babs would've been as thrilled to dust that one off as one of his unsavoury magazines (WHICH WERE TOTALLY OLD AND UNATTENDED TO AND WERE BETTER OFF SHEWN TO RIBBONS). Speedy scrawled fast, hoping it would be legible, looking up at her a few times while he wrote using the remaining wall partitions as a surface. Basically, they could still talk this out as long as his eraser on the mechanical pencil lasted out, and if they planned the right spots to pause in the work when in the hall or alone to reply.
'You sure you're up to working with us? It's been a long night. Crazy, right? Well, long's you're feeling better I'm just glad I get to see you. We can speak freely like this; it's a little old-fashioned what with T-comms, but I feel like we've gone back in time together anyway. I'm really excited to be with you; wish it hadn't happened like this though..' read the note he stuffed into Batgirl's palm before doing an about-face and rushing to help Robin transport from the supply closet, reaching the destination, and making his way back now with three boards over his shoulder.
He came back with the others because he'd forgotten that he needed to vocalize things when he wasn't around Batman. It was probably Batgirl's presence that had caused him to slip like this. He mentally kicked himself as he went with the others. When they went back down again he would give clear and direct orders and not assume that everyone else would be as smart as he was. When they got back to the room Batgirl addressed him. Speedy was quick to say they didn't need her help with the lifting but the Boy Wonder wasn't.
Robin's masked eyes widened in surprise, his mouth falling open for a moment before it snapped shut and his eyes narrowed at Batgirl. Since when did Babs admit to not being able to do something he could do? Maybe she had hit her head too hard. Or she was trying to be all weak and feminine for Speedy. Disgusting. The Boy Wonder shook his head quickly at Batgirl, denying her request for the moment. “We can't start putting up plywood until we've finished the frame,” he said as he set down his sheets of plywood. What he didn't say was that he didn't trust her rebuilding alone for the same reason he didn't trust Speedy rebuilding alone. Neither of them had been there when the tower was built. “Surely you can handle the two by fours, Babs, or are you afraid you'll break a nail?” he was teasing her the way he always had but for some reason this time didn't sound as...innocently nice.
And with that Robin turned back to go downstairs. Back in the supply closet he pulled a few more sheets of plywood from the stack and waited for the others. Speedy was the first to come back (because Babs was probably angry with him) and the Boy Wonder opened his mouth to give the archer orders. “Speedy he began but before he could get much farther the archer had mechanically picked up three sheets of plywood and left the room like he had something else on his mind. Robin let out a growl of frustration. He felt like he was back with Batman and nobody was listening to him again. “Alright, fine.” he said to no one in particular as he headed for the elevator. He waited for it to come back down, setting his plywood by the door. When it opened again he went inside and typed an override into it's computer. It would sit there, open, until he unlocked it.
Muttering something about robots and staircases that honestly made no sense and ended in a sarcastic “Holy teamwork, Titans,” Robin picked the plywood he had left by the door and put it in the elevator. He then went back to the supply closet to get more. He sincerely hoped this wouldn't take too long. After all, he wasn't sure he'd be able to stay at least some semblance of friendly if they kept making so many mistakes. He knew they weren't trying to annoy him, but he was already angry with the both of them, and every little thing just kept piling on. Eventually, the Boy Wonder would snap, and bad things would happen.
Her head was swimming, but she wasn't about to admit that to the boys. She ignored Robin's comment, too. She wanted to help. Perhaps it was the stubbornness she had picked up from being with both Batman and Robin before... well, before things got out of hand. She had been talking about the edge where there was a just a little bit missing from around the middle of the wall when she had spoken about the nails. Of course, it didn't seem like Robin wanted her to handle those anyways.
When Speedy shoved a piece of paper into her hand, she looked over at him curiously before uncrumpling it. As she stood there reading it, a smile crossed her face. 'You sure you're up to working with us? It's been a long night. Crazy, right? Well, long's you're feeling better I'm just glad I get to see you. We can speak freely like this; it's a little old-fashioned what with T-comms, but I feel like we've gone back in time together anyway. I'm really excited to be with you; wish it hadn't happened like this though..' She looked up, scanning the room for a pen. There was one not far from her, just sitting on the floor. She knew that Robin would probably think she was just in the way and not helping since she was stopping to pass notes with Speedy, but she really didn't care for once what Robin thought. It was an odd feeling, too.
She grabbed the pen and began. 'You should know me better than that. I'll work with you boys until my hands are blistered and bleeding. Yes, it has been a long night, but I'm not sorry for any of it. Well, maybe for hurting our teammates, but I'm not sorry that we kissed. I like that we're passing notes. It makes me feel like a little kid again,' she laughed as she wrote. 'I wish it happened another way too, Roy. But this is how it has to be. You can't have more than one girl, and I hope that one girl is me. I understand that you need to make things right with Raven, but keep me in mind, okay? I really care about you and I don't want to lose you now that I finally have you.' Instead of signing 'with love' or anything mushy at the bottom, she kissed the paper, leaving behind some of her red lipstick.
She waited for Speedy to come back into the room, then she balled the piece of paper up and threw it at his head, giggling. He was carrying boards, so he wouldn't be able to get back at her right away, which was fine with her. She was just glad to be here with him.
Getting back to business, she continued picking up his room, clearing a pathway from the door to the gigantic breach in the wall, and then more.
Lost in his head, Speedy hadn't meant to completely disregard Robin that way. However, it was easier to just work now, go through the motions and put this ordeal behind them. Every time he saw the gaping hole of what was left of his guest room wall, he was more and more convinced that leaving Jump City was the best thing he could do for Raven right then; if that's what she had done to the entire interior of his room and the wall, she must not want to be seeing him daily, on missions, in the hall. He wouldn't flatter himself so much to suggest she'd be still seeing him in her dreams, or maybe nightmares was more apt. He wasn't worth the consideration there. He'd missed Robin's icily-toned stab at Babs, and it was probably for the best; Roy was shaken enough from the day's events he might've just laughed stupidly, thinking Robin was already back to picking on Babs as she did on Robin mutually. Almost as if the waters had been calmed between them and some semblance of normalcy could have already returned. Ridiculous. Right before he set his plywood triad down, the notebook-sheet found it's way to his temple. As it fell he dropped two of the sheets, skipping around trying to catch the note now, foot a little sore from the sudden wood-hammering it had just received, but his focus on catching the note. Now on his belly, the ginger smiled sheepishly, face burning, rubbing his ankle and shaking it out as he stood, having at least successfully caught the note from Babs before the body-plant on what was left of his charred white carpet. How dorky. She had transported him back to his clumsy de-debonaired non-control of his body. This was not an effect from their sudden closeness. This was a vulnerability she'd been working into him for years, not nearly as many and as deep as she had with Robin, but enough to still crop up dorky moments from him. Speedy was so embarrassed to have Babs see him like that, that he left the scattered though still easily intact boards where they lay on the floor and scampered back to the supply closet, opting to change his strategy as Robin had smartly done and load boards into the elevator rather than come back to his room in episodes. He would give her back the note later, at least, he'd thought. Roy's eyes were drawn to the imprint of red below her reply first, grinning like he'd won the lottery. Reading it though, he was reminded of Raven's amazing patience with him. This 'one girl' thing was going to be a doozy. Could he honestly afford to be making promises right now? If he couldn't even keep a good thing going with a first girl honestly? Honestly. "We'll go as far as we're meant to. I'll try my best. Don't worry about Raven, I'm decided now. And your beautiful skin isn't going the bloody route on my watch." Short and sweet. No explicit promises. He stopped writing, having been using his knee as a surface this time. Passing Robin prompted his hasty finish of the latest message; there was a frosty atmosphere surrounding his old friend and even someone like Speedy knew instinctively the guy was in a mood, and that he was going to have to choose his actions and words wisely for a while. No need for anymore explosions from other teammates. He spoke up, piling two boards on each shoulder this time for the elevator. "Sorry were..you trying to tell me something before, Robin?" No good; he'd already blown it. Way to remind the guy how Speedy'd ignored and missed orders earlier.
Robin dropped the plywood he was carrying and turned to fix Speedy in his death glare. He scowled silently at the archer for a moment mostly just to make the other teen know exactly how annoyed the Boy Wonder was with him before answering. “I was trying to tell you that it's faster to pile all the supplies into the elevator and take it all up in one go but clearly you've got more important things on your mind.” he turned away then to grab the last of the plywood and one of the metal plates. He hefted these up onto his shoulder and headed back for the elevator purposefully ignoring Speedy's gaze as he went back and forth.
In the time it had taken Speedy to go up and come back down, Robin had managed to take most of the plywood to the elevator as well as all of the two by fours. All that was left now was the metal sheets that they would have to apply to the outside of the tower. Maybe he would ask Starfire for assistance on that one since she could fly. But that would be after they rebuilt the frame with the two by fours. He had been hoping to let Beast Boy rest after their patrol but now he was thinking of requesting his assistance with this.
Sorting through the rubble to see if she could salvage anything of Speedy's she came across the remnants of a notebook. They were poems, haikus to be exact. Making sure Speedy was out of the room, she flipped through the pages and became angrier as she went. Of course these love-poems to Raven were before Babs had confessed to Speedy about her feelings for him, but didn't he say that he had always liked her? Well, she shouldn't have expected anything but this. He had been in a sort-of relationship with Raven before she came into the mess and broke everything apart.
Walking over to the pile of rubble, notebook in hand, she carefully stacked it beneath some of the trash so that Speedy wouldn't find it. She knew it was kind of mean to be doing this, but she needed Speedy to know that she was the only girl for him now. God, if that didn't sound mean. She really just felt jealous about what Raven and Speedy had had together and didn't want Speedy to go back to that. To go back to Raven. Then how was she going to get Robin back?
She still didn't know whether she was doing this for her own sake or for the sake of making Robin jealous. It was making Robin jealous, alright. Even right-out angry with her. She was splitting up their friendship and she felt bad for it, but she wanted to be with one of them for sure. She just wasn't quite sure which one yet.
Picking up one of the two by fours, she walked over to the wall and set it up against the remnants of the wall. The ceiling was still in tact, it was just that half of the wall had been blown to bits, so all she had to do was set it up between the floor and the wall. She would have to get someone taller to nail it up there. Speedy would do it for sure. She didn't know how Robin felt at the moment about helping her at all.
"Rogeroger--Robin. Sorry about that, I just..ah, guess it's my turn, eh.." he trailed off, as his friend ignored him now. He tried one of the metal panels; these would be taken to the elevator only two at a time since they were heavier for him. Speedy sighed and scrubbed his hair exasperatedly with his fingers, then picked two metals and followed Robin back to the elevator. He knew he already looked a mess and not bothering to appeal to his vanity and fix it, way back from right after they'd thankfully landed back in the outside world when Raven had flipped on them. "I will leave you be. Though I'm trying to atone, hardly notice me." he murmured Robin's direction at about the same time his precious memories were swept under a dirty pile of rubble that Babs would make sure got thrown out. When the last metal panels had been stacked into the elevator, he made for the stairs to give Babs the note. "Catch you on the downside! The weight capacity in this thing's a little strained. Wouldn't wanna be stuck in there with me, wouldja." called Speedy back to Robin over his shoulder when he left. Reaching his room remnants he chucked the note back at Babs' head this time, shutting the door again quickly and laughing a little. He would've stayed to ask to help with what she was trying to set up, but it would be better to be at the elevator when it came down to immediately start bringing the heavy lifting this way and lean it against his room's outer wall to get the repair process started. They would have to either set up the harness from the room to get started with the metal paneling, or employ Star or BB's help for the outside bits. Speedy was a little put off by the idea of them asking questions, not knowing about Beast Boy's little flyspywithmylittleeye. He headed back to the elevator on his floor to wait for the supplies to be sent down from Robin's entered access code.
Robin nodded to Speedy and took the elevator with the supplies since it needed a manual override and he could use the elevator computer to check the weather and contact the other Titans. He did his manual override and started the slow, groaning trip to the upper floors. Robin wasn't too worried about the elevator breaking, since he could fix it if it did, and so spent his time checking the weather radar. There was a mass out at sea and it appeared to be heading towards them. Great. They'd have to work really fast to get this all done. He was about three fourths of the way to his destination when he set up a call to all of the Titans that currently resided in the Tower but Raven.
“Titans,” he addressed them as soon as the majority had rung in. “We have a security breech at the tower and a storm rolling in. I will need all available Titans to assist in fixing the damage. Meet me at Speedy's room as soon as you are able.” he informed the Titans, the expression on his face when he said Speedy's room clearly echoing the sentiment who else? “Robin out.”
The door to the elevator opened with a ding and Robin was surprised to see Speedy waiting there for it. He nodded a greeting to the archer and reset the lock on the elevator so it would stay open while they moved the supplies out of it. That done he grabbed up a pile of plywood and headed for Speedy's room.
Iris was fast asleep. next thing she knew the speaker woke her up but she forgot to turn it down and in surprise she rolled off her bed. "Dang it whats going on now?" she listened to robin over the intercom. It didn't take long for her to rush out of her room and head for the elevator. "well could be worse. lest maybe now I can be useful for once without any presser." walking in to the opening doors she headed down to speedys room running in."sorry If I'm late. whats going on?"
Beast Boy was walking back to his room, his emotions in a jumble after his conversation with Raven. He empathized with her and was grateful to have cheered her up in some form, yet he also felt an unusual sadness concerning the entire Raven-Speedy-Babs situation. It made some part of him feel the whole mess with Terra was repeating himself, and it was an event he did not want to live twice.
He also felt an intense anger towards Speedy, and possibly Babs too. He wasn't sure how innocent she was concerning Speedy's previous flirtationship with Raven, and didn't want to bite her head off until he knew more. But Speedy he could afford to be furious with.
The archer must have known he was forming a connection with Raven. Raven. One of the most powerful Titans in the building. Raven, who had to meditate every day to control her powers. Whose emotions should have been the last in the universe to be tampered with. Why Speedy would choose to hurt her in this way, Beast Boy could not fathom. Nor could he forgive the archer, at least not for now.
He had almost reached the door to his room when his communicator bleeped. It was Robin, making a call to ask every available Titan help finish repairs before an incoming storm hit the Tower. The changeling sighed irritably and massaged his temples with his left hand. Having to encounter Speedy this early after the...incident was not on his list of priorities. However, the call couldn't be ignored, and Beast Boy jogged back through the halls until he found Robin. Iris was already with the Boy Wonder. BB sighed in relief, glad he hadn't come across either Speedy or Babs during his stroll. He still wasn't sure how he would react when he had to work alongside them. He wouldn't be his usual chipper self, that was for sure.
Beast Boy looked at Robin for a moment before deciding to confide on what he knew. There was no point in keeping it from his leader, at least.
"I talked to Raven," he muttered darkly; the look in his eyes--one of confusion, anger, sorrow, resentment--would tell Robin all he needed to know. He decided to be cryptic enough to keep the incident from Iris. She would learn about what had happened sooner or later. Secrets didn't often stay secret with the Teen Titans, no matter how well-protected they were.
"What do you need me to do?" the changeling asked, all business now.
Barbara had already stuffed the torn-almost-to-shreds-notebook under the pile of rubble and had grabbed a broom and was sweeping by the time Speedy got upstairs and launched the note at her temple. Smiling at him before he exited the room once agian, she bent down and picked up the note. As she read it, her smile disappeared and she bit her lip. "We'll go as far as we're meant to. I'll try my best. Don't worry about Raven, I'm decided now. And your beautiful skin isn't going the bloody route on my watch." As far as they were meant to? What did that mean? She was glad that he also added that he would try his best and that he was decided.
She set the broom down and picked up the pen she had used before. 'The whole tower is going to hate me now. Maybe it would be a good idea for me to follow you back to East. No one wants me here anyways.' She stuffed the paper into her pocket and went back to cleaning. As she was sweeping, her communicator beeped, telling her to meet Robin in Speedy's room. Robin wasn't even here yet. She put the broom down and headed out the door towards the elevator. She knew they still had a few things to bring into the room and she knew she could handle it. Maybe.
She passed Robin and Beast Boy, along with Iris, on her way to the elevator. Picking up a sheet of plywood, she held it over her head again and went back to the room, occasionally grunting with effort as she tried to keep it from falling this way or that. When she was finally back in the room, she set it with the other boards before heading back for the last ones.
Starfire heard a small buzzing under her head. She quickly fished her communicater out from under her pillow. "I will be joining you shortly." She flew swiftly to Speedy's room, scoping the area for any trace of a villian. But, all she saw was Speedy's room... and it was trashed. She tugged slightly at her red locks, and glanced around. "What is the breech?"
(It's okay, I am known for my horribly short posts DX)
Robin was on his second trip when Iris and Beast Boy came to help. He grinned at them in greeting, but caught Beast Boy's eye and slowed down a bit so the changeling could tell him whatever it was he felt needed to be said. When the little green bean said he'd talked to Raven, Robin nodded in understanding. He shifted the plywood boards he was holding into one hand and clasped the other boy's shoulder with his free hand. “Thank you,” he replied softly, dropping his voice so hopefully Iris wouldn't overhear. “How's she doing?” he listened to Beast Boy's response, giving a nod before turning to survey the group as a whole that had showed up.
“Part of Speedy's wall has been blown out. You want an explanation, ask him later. Right now we have work to do,” Robin was all business. “First things, first we have to move all the supplies into Speedy's room so that they're convenient. Then, we'll work on setting up the support beams, Beast Boy, I want you to work with Batgirl putting up beams on one side of the breech. Speedy and I will work on the other side and we'll reconvene in the middle.” he addressed the changeling before turning to Starfire and Iris. “Starfire, Iris, you two run supplies so we can get this done quickly and efficiently.” he would wait to dole out more orders once they had finished the support beams. Done with being an overseer, the leader of the Titans continued down the hallway with his burden of plywood.
His reasoning behind the teams was simple, efficiency, but it had taken him longer than usual to figure out how to position the teams since he wanted an original member paired with each newer member who hadn't been there for the creation of the tower. He knew that putting Speedy with Beast Boy would have been a disaster. He could see it in the changeling's eyes, so he had decided to take one for the team and put up with the obnoxious archer himself and keep him on the opposite side of the room from Beast Boy. He had put Starfire and Iris on supplies mostly because he needed Starfire to save her strength for putting the protective metal on the outside and supplying was mostly standing about with nails and occasionally retrieving a two by four from the stack. Iris was also on supply because Robin had no idea if she could use a hammer or not.
Starfire nodded, and procceeded to carry the supplies to their destination. She sighed softly, then blew a strand of hair away from her large, green peepers. She noticed how serious Robin was, and Raven's absence.
"Robin," She began as she flew back to collect more boards, "Why isn't Raven present for this breech?" The Tamaranin turned her head slightly to the right, curiousity seeping from her eyes.
She balanced a stack of boards in her hands, and had to angle them to be able to see Robin's face.

The roleplay takes place after the series end of the original Teen Titans animated show, but does not include the movie Trouble in Tokyo. Since then Robin has been on something of a recruiting spree, and many new young heroes have found themselves a home in Jump City as well as Titan Tower.
