OoC;; Luls. Speedy’s eyes’re blue and hidden behind his mask still, Morduu~ c: Technically though, one of them may have a pretty deep brown stain from the blood that dried into it P: |
“I was touching on the fitful sleep it looked like you were having when I caught sight of ya this mornin’, but hey. Whatever you say, Dannyboy. I just hope you’re rested enough to fly Ink up that mountainside we’re heading towards.” Speedy had no idea of the hummingbird boy’s plans to get him to higher ground, but addressed that later action and Ink’s possible mode of climbing solution in one fell swoop without being aware of such, as he searched the treetops and scanned their general surroundings for any signs of oncoming attack, all without looking back once. His own muscles were beginning to loosen from periodic if not painful stretching and rolling of his shoulders.
The healing archer was rather surprised therefore to find the only suspicious part of their surroundings to be the ground, as his step became less stable and a lot more…squelchy.
A quizzical brow relaxed as the rest of his face did, and he finally stopped his methodical stalk forward, to face his friends, a quiet little smile surfacing as his submerged left foot did likewise from a particularly squelchy pool of freshly formed mud.
“Do you guys remember the first time we took Aqualad to Jump Beach? We were throwing a football, and he stepped backwards into some kid’s sand-castle? Turned the poor liddle fella’s moat into quicksand tryin’a get his big awkward feet out before the rest of the castle could collapse? He made the same…”
The water was rising; it was now around his ankles. His story voice faltered. His gaze lingered on Danny’s for an extra moment, then Ink’s, finally, Raven’s. He continued, now walking backwards, occasionally looking at the rising water at his feet, and gripped his gear tighter, remembering his friend through the anecdote but wondering about the changing conditions of their traversed terrain as time progressed.
“…sound my foot just made…in apology! Like a…distressed…”
Where was all this water coming from? Speedy just managed to finish his reminiscing, not standing stock still anymore but his feet seeking out stable ground below the now knee-high water, their Games-regulation boots doing a decent job of keeping his feet dry for the moment.
He almost froze.
Had that been a cannon-shot?
…
Had that been another one?
”…fish out of water…!”
The after-effects of the gigantic tidal wave that had just done away with Wondergirl, and some run-off from the one currently assaulting Batgirl and Robin, was now flowing rapidly towards them;some kind of sturzstrom phenomenon surely, for they weren’t traveling across particularly sloped ground, and yet here was this muddy, fluid rush of water about to sweep them all who knew how far!
Speedy balked at the sight of the oncoming river that was unbelievably rushing their ragtag team now, and immediately felt it time for Danny to use his natural talents sooner than he had planned.
He had about 18 seconds to bark and bolt before they were overtaken, the water now to his mid-thigh. What his friends were able to do to avoid disaster within the remaining few seconds would be up to them, but he had promised to at least get Ink as far as he possibly could in these Games, and he would do his utmost to make good on that. He began threading some rope through a shuriken, and tied a solid stopper-knot, then swung his arm a few times and whipped the blades at an oak’s sturdiest looking branch. He watched as the metal caught in the wood after wrapping around the branch a few times, and tugged twice for good measure.
“Danny! Use those wings of your’s to get Ink as far from the flow as you can, then the both of you, climb! Rae and I will regroup with you guys!”
Speedy waded pointedly towards Raven as he spoke, throwing his good arm in the opposite direction of the flow, imploring Danny to fly his best, then fixed said good arm around a sturdy looking oak about a good three feet incline from the majority of the water. His not-so-good arm had taken possession of the former empath’s waist. Presently, with the water back to knee-height, the soggy ginger tried to keep a level head.
“So what’ll it be? Sink with me, or swim to the surface-world, Princess?”
Speedy gave Raven a grim smile, motioning for her to start climbing.
12 seconds.
He estimated only about 12 seconds left before he’d be taking a deep breath and contending with the current to survive. The flow’s speed and depth were increasing; he wasn’t sure how easy it would be to pull himself, in wet clothing, up this trunk, with this bunk shoulder...but Raven had a chance.
Harper tossed the weighty pack he’d produced Danny’s extra shuriken from into the bypassing river all around them to prepare to climb if he could manage, but first things first; helping Raven out of harm’s way.
